1. You are some hardcore fans. Made my own mousepad with Marco Bergmann's Shermans, T-shirts with CM logos and of course underwear showing the tube of the famous 88L71...
2.
quote:
Usually they either die on turn 1 in a shameful manner, or they spend 25 turns getting pushed 170m to a place where they die in a shameful manner.

I like that one deanco, it sounds so familiar.
3. Gen, if your KT was buttoned he might have never noticed that a Sherman was busy spanking him.
4. When a building gets heavily damaged, infantry bails out of them immediatly - at least in the full game with one of the newer patches.
5. How could I have missed that thread? I still have stomach aches from laughing so hard Capt.
6. I don't think we'll see any patch which satisfy Martin's wish. Sig, if you need someone to setup a QB I'll volounteer to do that. All you and your opponent have to do is to send me an e-mail, list the forces you want to purchase as well as the conditions ( date, turn lengh, terrain etc.). Really no biggie
7. Matthew, that was an awesome read. Thanks for sharing.
8. Hi Martin, I'm an absolute computer iliterate and so have no clue about the difficulties to code such an additional anti-cheat feature. I think that - no matter how hard you try to prevent it - someone finds a hole that allows him to cheat. I treat the whole PBEM affair as a gentleman's club and I "suspect" that all of my opponents are honest men. When you are playing a turney or a ladder game and want to get rid of that bad " what if.." feeling, ask a third player to do the setup; I'm sure you find someone willing to do this quite easily. Short question: When I replied to Martin's thread there wasn't any post. Is there a way to find out if there are any replies before you have posted an answer? 10. The battles I've lost so far where not because of my fault: Logistical problems, mechanical breakdowns, overwhelming enemy superiority when I was attacking, bad ground conditions, high echelon leadership confusion ( aka **** happens factor ), devine intervention, etc. I would rather bite my tongue off before I publically admit that lost battles were the result of my personal errors - and this does make me the perfect General. I'm sure that you, Kiwi Joe, will find your master soon and rediscover the enjoyment of the game when some of the truly evil gamers out there tramples on your shattered remnants of self conciousness and then tie your corpse on his victory chariot and drags it through the muddy grounds of defeat. We should discuss the terms of a small Ilias ranging about 1500 pts combined arms (ooc) where is my beloved spellchecker? [ 04-20-2001: Message edited by: Schugger ]
11.
quote:
Originally posted by chasd: ... and thunder bolts from his arse.

Wasn't his british nickname "Deathfart"?
12. I still have no problem to get my butt kicked by no-nonsense, fast spotting, first-shot-killing, mean-green (or conscript) fighting machines encountered in "Villers Bocage - Tiger!". This is - of course - without any AI boni to the brits. Try it, even if you know the names of any british TC present, it is absolutely not a piece of cake.
13. Using tanks as cover by hunkering behind them is not a very wise infantry taktik - at least they told me so back in my army days. A large piece of metal attracts a lot of fire which might not be dangerous for the tank itself but certainly for the "soft" groundpounders behind it. I know that many pictures exist, where a tank is in combat and infantry hides behind it, but I do still think that another place which is not so fire-magnetic is a much safer place for infantry. Anyway, I would like to hear what the grogs say to this.
14. I hate it to sound stupid, but what does this magical "c" stand for?
15. I just found out that the Churchill flamethrower tank could fir it's hull MG, main gun and flamthrower simultaneously. AFAIK, all flamethrowing vehicles can only toast something if they are not moving.
16. Not possible in QBs, Enoch. Would be nice to have that feature in CM, though.
17. I can't help it, sorry Shadow. Whenever I read a topic with the key words " don't read", "please ignore" or "top secret" I have to take a look. It's like when someone tells you to walk across a room and don't think of the pink elephant. The mere existence of this restricted forum is driving me mad. Damn, I'm sooo curious
18. Shatter, perhaps this is just the good ol' FOW thingy. Check your FOW setting for this scenario, which might be the solution to your problem.
19. I would have liked to post some links to threads where this and other questions regarding MGs have been discussed. Unfortunately, the mighty search engine does not work for me. Maybe it works for you
20. Poor Heinz rune was quite surprised when I told him what happened in our battle ( but not as surprised as you were ) and he made some changes in the Le Luc scenario. I fear the dark side has now totally consumed our beloved rune as this evilness was unintentional. But it was fun - well, for me
21.
quote:
Originally posted by Stacheldraht: You can find the Handbook on German Forces in .pdf format here, along with many other primary docs. Another vote for Ian Hogg's books here.

What an awesome list, Stacheldraht. Thanks!
22. Brian, check if the squads have the "hidden" status and not "taking cover". In the last case, select the squad and press "h" and your ambush should work out nice.
23. Map scrolling would also be nice, especially for large maps. I constantly lose orientation when the map "jumps" as I click on the compass to scroll the map.
24. I just tried to recreate the situation with the editor, Scipio. I used an HMG team and a HQ unit as ambushers and it seems like the ambush is sprung(?) if an enemy unit enters an area of approximately 30m around the marker. Looks like you are correct, you can not cover an large area with a single ambush marker.
