  1. Yes, it definately sounds like a graphics card problem. Seems like the G series has problems with this game. It's been mentioned before. Those are made by S3 right? What kind of explosion graphics did you have with the demo? ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
  2. OK, in the editor, when you go around setting the elevations by clicking up or down numbers in the grid from the base number of 7, can you or is there a setting in the preferences that defines the difference between each elevation number?? ie, 1m, 5m, 10m, etc?? ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
  3. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Prophet: HMM.. i tried the REISBERG level ..and nothing =(...I have only the beta demo it still doesent seem to recognize Reissberg..when i start up the game it only shows chance encounter and valley of trouble. they go in the scenario folder correct ..? thats where the other 2 are..ill try again .but arrrgghh... thx for replying <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Let me try, Matt. No Prophet, what you have is the GOLD DEMO. It came out this time last month. The only scenarios that work with it are the ones that came with it: Chance Encounter and Valley of Trouble. The BETA DEMO came out last November and included two scenarios: Last Defense and Reisberg. Then BTS released a third scenario, Chance Encounter. The same one that is in the Gold Demo. But NOTE: The Gold Demo's Chance Encounter has been reworked for the gold code. The Beta Chance Encounter will not work with the Gold Demo. File format is different. ********************************************* **Joke Alert** The Beta Demo was the one that had really ****ty graphics and got really ****ty gas mileage. ********************************************* Now from what I understand is that the Beta Demo's two original scenarios: Last Defense and Reisberg will be on the final game CD. Now then, the two Gold scenarios: Chance Encounter and Valley of Trouble WILL BE transferable to the final version. Hope this helps. ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 06-18-2000).]
  4. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by aka_tom_w: Why is it I keep thinking the CIA or the FBI might be wanting to read this thread and check out that topo map of Maximuses' home area? I don't know ? I think there is something bordering on questionable, to not only want to plan a battle around your home neighboorhood, but ALSO post your idea's about it here? just curious that's all? why does the term security risk keep coming to mind... -tom w <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Well tom, if you must know. I just posted the url to show how close that that site could go. My little neighborhood (the area where the little road goes around) is just 200 by 300 meters. Hell, when I design my scenario, I'm gonna call down at least a 155mm arty barage on my own house. ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 06-18-2000).]
  5. Well, you could use the "kitchen sink" unit under a tree for a trailer. I can't wait to get the game to start working on my neighborhood scenario. Actually the more I look at it, it could easily be a operation. Since this area is a little bigger than I thought, I could see making it into an operation. I said above that it'll be 1500m x 1500m. I just drew out some boundaries on the map and it looks like it'll be more like 1400 x 1400. Could come out something like VoT but twice as big with lots more houses. There's only about 60 feet elevation change between any certain spot so, who knows. I plan to duplicate terrain type as much as possible, so I can say, "Hey neighbor, look what I did using this game's editor." ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
  6. Why does everybody keep saying, "Perhaps for CM2." ??. Don't you want continued excellent customer support for CM1?? ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
  7. Well since it wasn't exactly a pre-order, it'll probably go out sometime this week, probably Tuesday or Wednesday. Now shipping times are varied. 2-3 days in the US. 4-6 days in Canada 8-10 days in W. Europe 10 days everywhere else ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
  8. AWESOME!!! Thanx a lot Miles! Wanna see where I plan on doing my scenario? http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=37.7377&lon=-88.5751&s=25&size=s NOTE: That map is at least 15-20 years old. Could make an interesting little battle, don't you think? Probably make it larger than I thought I would to include the hilly area to the southwest there. The little horse-shoe road (that's my neighbor hood) could be a village that is contested. I'll probably do at least a fall, and winter version as well. EDIT: Well, looks like my scenario will be about 1500m x 1500m. I'll exaggerate the elevations from feet to meters. Guys this should be awesome. I can already see it now. As that King Tiger blows the piss out of my neighbor's house. ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 06-18-2000).] [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 06-18-2000).] [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 06-18-2000).]
  9. I plan on doing a scenario based on my surrounding neighborhood. Ironically I live in an area about 800m x 800m called Buena Vista, which would make a great name for the scenario I think. It would even include a church. Might extend the board to 1000m x 1000m just to give some place where the combatants can come from. Just wish I had some topo maps of this area. But if I play around with the editor enough and check the 3D terrain as I go, I could probably come close to what it looks like. The scenario would be kinda like a fight for a village. Should be interesting. I'll let you know how it comes once I start playing with the editor. ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
  10. But you *can* copy the Gold Demo scenarios to the full game though, right??
  11. Yes actually Rob is right. The new Specs page on the official site now says 100MB instead of the 50MB it said until now.
  12. Actually, this has been covered before in that the image that you see of an AFV is not really what the computer "sees". ie. The graphic representaion of the AFV is only that. The actual location of the AFV may be slightly different than where you see the graphic. This was brought up in a thread concerning a 'schreck round passing right through the turret of a Sherman along the road into Reisberg and not causing any damage. ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
  13. Correct, Charles. I was mearly explaining how some CC fans get turned-off from CM due to just having that turn-based "term" in the description. As you can see how I explained that having the turns is just like pausing a realtime game to give better commands and then the tac-AI takes over during the movie to do things for you that you would have to do in a real-time game anyway. In a way, it works waay better than real-time anyway. Why worry about issuing stances and targets when the AI can do them for you, sort of thing? ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
  14. Well sometimes they're even known to skip HE rounds off the ground. JUST KIDDING!!! ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
  15. Was there really any need to quote his whole post, Andreas?? ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
  16. Just a couple things on the difference between CC and CM. CM combines turn-based games and real-time games into one. There are problems when you only have one of these in terms of realism and gameplay. The problem with turn-based games is that they are generally the IGO-UGO systems (with hopefully "op-fire"). This is usually not very realistic. The problem of real-time games is that they tend to be "click-fests" as we all have heard. But it is true, whether you like it or not. As with wargames or any strategy game, how can you use sound tactics when you're constantly trying to scoll around the board issueing orders to units when the units should already know what to do anyway? That's why games like Warzone 2100, StarCraft, and C&C tend to use the ol' cliche if the "tank rush". The human side usually sits at their base building a mass of troops while the AI sends 2 or 3 units at a time. Then once the human player has a big enough force, he goes on a killing spree. Then if his force gets decimated then he has to start all over again. CM uses a combination of both turn-based gameplay and realtime gameplay. The turn-based gameplay is really more like just a pause in the action while both sides can issue orders. And the real-time aspect is the playing of the CPU calculated movie of what happens in conjucture with your orders--except that you have no control over your troops during this 60 seconds of real-time played out. But that is where CM's tac-AI comes into play. The tac-AI takes control of your units and does whatever is necessary for them to survive (or not). Now in a real-time game like CC, you would probably have to issue individual orders to get your troops do what CM's tac-AI has already done for you. It does things like switch targets when a higher threat is near, just like any normal soldier would do. ie. You wouldn't want a squad to keep firing at a MG that is 300m away when an enemy squad pops up just 30m away, now would you? And while you don't have control over your men directly during the movie is like simulating that you can't issue orders to every single unit on the CC board all at once. So therefore, CM is a IGO/UGO-WEGO system. I saw some comments made on the SSI forum that veteran CC players couldn't "get-into" the game as far as immersion factor. Well, I don't know about you, but when you can get right down on the field at eye level with your troops as the run for cover as the bullets fly, there is plenty of immersion factor there, trust me. ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
  17. I too just went over to the Club SSI forums and did a search on CM and I found the pros on CC laughable. Are they kidding themselves? Let's just see what game sells better once all these initial orders are delivered. ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
  18. You guys do realise that USPS uses airplanes to transport mail too don't you? This ain't the Paul Reveere days. No matter where you live in the States, the delivery time will be more or less the same, give or take a day. All the orders *probably* go out of Portland, ME and then they fly to regional ditribution cities. For me, it would be St. Louis. Then they are flown/driven down to a local district post office and then sent to the correct town. All this takes about 2-3 days. Depending when the corresponding flights go out. I used to work for a postal service so I know how all of this works. ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
  19. Just wrote the executive editor an email explaining the error. ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
  20. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Berlichtingen: Well, true. But what I was referring to was that since Germany had a lot of Assault Guns and Tanks with slow turret traverse rates, that Allied tanks with faster traverse rates, even given their relatively weak armor, still be able to defend themselves better than German tanks in close combat. Yes they need infantry, but how long can a StuG III survive if a bazooka team is to its side. And grunto, yes artillery within the 81-105 range isn't too bad, but anything higher, there's trouble far them thar tanks. I'd think I'd keep them moving to try to get them out of the barrage area. ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 06-17-2000).]
  21. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Capt. That incident prompted the raid on Berlin, that led to Hitler's obsession with leveling London.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Capt. Ayers is correct. During a night raid, the cloud cover was so thick that the bomber group didn't know where they were, due to navigation error. They feared not having enough fuel to get back to their bases in France and to lighten their load, they dropped their bombs on the first lights that they saw. Those lights just happened to be London. ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
  22. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Goanna: And how about this one, "Hitler could have been a world renowned artist if he was good enough." Well, of course, I could be a world renowned artist if I was good enough too. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> No really. They touched on this. Instead of being the asshole dictator he was, he was an artist before elected Chancellor in the 30's. He just wasn't good enough to keep interest in it I guess. MrPeng, I kinda like the Maxima. It's gotta a good ring to it. Like when I "screw" up all your battle plans. NOTE None of what I said in the initial post were my own thoughts. They all came from the show. I just thought it would interesting to hear what several historians would think if they did "What if's" ------------------ "I for one, am pretty damn close to Genius"--Ol' Blood & Maximus
