  1. At the beginning of the war Independent NKVD Line Divisions, complete with artillery and armour, were formed in the new GUOV (Chief Directorate of Operational Forces). In June 1941 47 ground and 6 naval Frontier Guards Regiments and 11 other NKVD combat Regiments contained approximately 100,000 men. These were formed into 15 divisions. Destroyer (Istribitelyniy) Battalions were formed in Soviet towns and cities to perform rear area security and hunt down enemy agents and parachutists. The infamous Blocking Detachments (Zagraditelniy Otryady) were formed, primarily from GUPV (Frontier Guards) Special Forces Battalions. Many NKVD units were cited for distinction during the war including: - Defensive battles in Belorussia, Latvia and Estonia: 42nd, 132nd and 155th Independent Convoy Battalions. - Defence of Riga and Tallin: 22nd NKVD Rifle Division and 3rd NKVD Railroad Division. - Defence of Kiev: 5th, 10th and 13th NKVD Rifle Divisions. - Defence of Odessa: 249th Convoy Regiment. - Defence of the Western Ukraine: 21st NKVD Cavalry Regiment. - Defence of Rostov: 230th Convoy Regiment. - Defence of Leningrad: 1st, 20th, 21st and 22nd NKVD Rifle Divisions. - Defence of Moscow: 34th, 70th, 111th, 115th, 156th, 160th and 207th NKVD Rifle Regiments. - Battle for Stalingrad: 10th NKVD Division. - The 70th Army, formed in December 1941 entirely of NKVD Frontier Guards and Interior Troops, fought at Kursk and Berlin. In 1943 there were 1210 NKVD garrisons in liberated areas of the USSR: 74 regimental, 346 battalion and 790 company garrisons. 2. Very nice work Tom.....also like the web site. Ghost
  3. Von Fauster.... I posted to the board because BTS reads the board and responds on a very frequent basis to the postings. I also posted publicly because I know of many other people feel the same way I do...some of whom have mailed me directly confirming this rather than posting here because they refuse to post here any more. Saying I'm not interested in debating this means "I'm not interested in debating this"! It means that I'm hoping BTS will consider the suggestion but that I'm not interested in debating the merits (or not) of my suggestion with anyone. My intent is not to offend anyone and it's unfortunate that you took it that way. My saying that there is a lot of "crap" and "irrelevant" posts on this board is true from what I read but certainly doesn't mean or imply that all the posts are, or that all the people posting have nothing of value to offer. Again, bottom line is that I'd like to see a CM2/eastern front board now which is separate from this one. That's it. Ghost
  4. OK...let me make this as succinct as possible: A CM2/eastern front board available to all for viewing but O/T is kept out by whatever means BTS decides upon. Not elitist, just focused without all the garbage coming up on this board since the game release. There's a ton of eastern front material to be discussed/shared/mulled over etc. along with CM2 development info. That's what I'm hoping will be established. Ghost
  5. Elijah....bottom line is I don't want to have to wade through all the crap posts to get to the core material/dialogue and there are way too many of said posts on this board now that have absolutely no relevance. I also hate to see some of the highly contributive old timers leaving this board when they would be making a contribution to CM2 dialogue if we had another board. BTW....your sarcasm is counterproductive and only invites an attack. My query is to BTS and I'm not interested in debating this. As I said, it's a genuine request for something CM2 only based without irrelevant topics. If you want to "have fun" then you'd still have this or another board for said "entertainment". Ghost
  6. Elijah....I think you've missed the point or maybe you had to be around during CM's development. This is a sincere request for a CM2 development board that is tightly controlled so that it serves the purpose of the pre-release CM board. Nothing more...nothing less. Ghost
  7. I will refrain from commenting on the current status of the CM board as compared to last year during CM development. However, I would like to request a CM2 development board that is either access available by petition based on one's previous history here or so tightly monitored that nothing off topic is allowed if it doesn't pertain to the eastern front and CM2 specifically. Any violation of civility, protocol or the "rules" would result in immediate banning from this board but not necessarily the others. Though mostly a lurker early on, I visited the CM board from the early pre-beta days onward and always found it interesting and informative. It allowed me to learn more about the western front, weaponry, etc. as well as to follow the development of this superb sim and resulted in my being in the pre-beta group of orders. I felt very confident in ordering based on what I was reading about the game development and the efforts that were being made to provide the quality of game we now experience the result of. Also, the feedback from readers was obviously significant to development of the game throughout the process. Please seriously consider this request as I'm sure there are many others out here who would also like to see this. Thanks and thanks for your creation! Ghost
  8. Same here. I've stopped using the ambush marker for that reason and will only use hide. The exception being if the enemy unit has to move down a restricted ambush path and I don't want a unit to open up until then but this is rare. Ghost
  9. I was actually pleased to see it was shipped in a paper cover. There's enough plastic around as it is. Ghost
  10. Can anyone tell provide instruction for the following? Need it ASAP. 1)How do you position units in the editor EXACTLY where you want them to start. 2)How do you tell the editor WHERE you want reinforcements to appear. Thanks very much Ghost
  11. Thanks Wild Bill....just dl'ed them and look forward to playing these. BTW...played "Ramelle...Saving Private Ryan" scenario this weekend and it was a blast. Nice job on that one and had some furious and heroic action by certain units. Was definitely a pleasure to play as a fun scenario. Keep up the good work. Ghost
