  1. Dalem, with all due respect mate, how can you not understand? IMO you first post did have an "I'm alright Jack" ring to it. Sure it's just a computer game, heck I'm not gonna lose any sleep over a delayed release date. Does it irk me? Sure, like all good things in life it wouldv'e been nice to have CMBB sooner rather than latter. If the tables were turned and you got the option to get CMBB a little quicker for a few extra bucks I bet you'd give it some thought. Being only human I'd also wager that you'd be a tad pissed off if the said product was faulty. After all, you still paid good money for it. Personally I think I'm gonna wait, to much hassle for a lazy SOB like me, but full credit to BFC (and the US boys for giving away more of their time) for sorting these lads out, I doubt you'd find many companys (or people) willing to do the same. 3. Gameplay reckons the release date is 27/09/02. Makes sense if their shipping it from Ireland. £28.99. Not too bad eh John? [ September 06, 2002, 03:57 PM: Message edited by: Londoner ]
  4. What monitor are you guys using, little 14 inchers?? I only have a '19incher and the tracers are just fine IMO, and very visible.
  5. All armour and ATGs KOed (my opponent and I both know this due to the preset gun limit), both German and US. I however am still the proud owner of a shiney new Hummel with 19 HE rounds. A bitter, close range infanty action is well under way in the village. The reminants of the US force, perhaps a Company have formed a defensive ring around the only major flag. I have a reinforced Coy left with 2 81mm mortars and acouple of HMGs with about half their ammo left. with no other heavy weapons available the Hummel is obviously the key. The Hummel proceeds to a rather handy hill overlooking the village, range roughly 500m. Perfect me thinks, just perfect, what can go wrong. Enter lone US infantry squad, no previous marker, no HQ(I learn later) no support, nothing. These plucky little buggers decide to close assault said Hummel. One of my supporting HMGs opens up. The US squad goes to ground, wildly scrambling around in the dirt. The target line was yellow for the squad, it was obviously in "panic". The idiot, foolish, nasty, vindictive Hummel CO decides to put a 150mm HE round into these poor sods, just for good measure. In his devilish glee he forgets to back up, blowing himself, his happless crew and said US squad to kingdom come. [ August 23, 2002, 03:55 PM: Message edited by: Londoner ]
  6. Spot on Grisha, wireless communications were arguably the single biggest factor that gave life to the offensive again.
  7. Its been down for a while mate. Apparently Yobobo can't be found. However you can still post losses etc so most peeps have gone over to the CMHQ chat to find opponents for the time being. Lets hope Mr M Matt doesn't mind to much. You will find it at: http://www.combatmission.com:8000/ [ August 02, 2002, 03:50 PM: Message edited by: Londoner ]

  9. Yea it is a very nice little feature, can't remember how many times my battery of 2inch mortars has saved one of my happless tanks. Start playing against humans, you'll never look back [ July 14, 2002, 10:18 AM: Message edited by: Londoner ]
  10. Cheers for info determinant. So the idea that the "sight" gives a longer effective range is really not true I guess.
  11. Mike, you mention the optical sight. I was talking to an ex RGJ officer afew days ago. He was adamant that the optical sight on most SF mgs, at least the GPMG and MG42 was for low light/visibility only. I don't know the technical jargon but apparently you don't actually look through it to engage targets at long range. You have some sort of rod near the gun which you align with the sight so when visibilty is bad you can bring fire down quickly on pre-designated points. Anyone know the ins and outs of this?
  12. Carl, I think you touched on one of the problems. Magenheimer devotes a huge amount of thought and space in his book to a somewhat thin argument. IIRC He suggests Germany went to war for defensive reasons. He argues, as you mention that Soviet plans were afoot and Germany simply took the pre-emtive measure. IE Attack is the best form of defence. This is rubbish, again as mentioned, every state forms plans for war, the USA had a case plan, I forget its name, for war with the UK in the '30s. Does this suggest war between us was likely? He totally dissmisses Hitlers ideology. Its almost like he's talking about a democratic state, pragmatically making reasonable, logical plans. Keep reading thought mate, it does get better, and credit where its due, he's gathered alot of data at least.
  13. Hmmmm, there's some very good and very bad things in Magenheimer's book, read with a critical eye....
  14. Argh I'd love to make it as well, I'll see how today goes.....
  15. Jack, IIRC try Men against tanks, sorry I can't remember the author. It provides a fairly in-depth look at all types of man potable AT weapons. Regarding CM, I used to think the same as you. However the large numbers of piats/zooks you get with the average Coy, (along with more ammo per unit I think) probably makes it look like the allied stuff is more effective. For what its worth, I had a sherman frontally KOed by a single 'sreck team at 208m two nights ago in a TCP game. Not a group of em, two bloody blokes who stormed up a large hill, directly at the sherm, totally unsupported and with sparse cover. Bold move, **** happens in war. 16. Hmmm I wonder how much a London-Chicago ticket is.....
  17. No mate, a Puma or/and a 50mm ATG always does the trick for me, never had a wasp give me any trouble. Now a flame Hetzer, thats another story...
  18. I see your arguement Jason, I think. Your saying there is an optium prep' time to firing a medium calibre gun regardless of crew numbers, space etc. However if three men, ie loader, gunner and TC are the "optium", why have 7-8 men on a 88mm PAK 43? Remember we're talking about ATGs here not howitzers or infantry guns. The 88 is a good example andreas. It would be interesting to know the figures.
  19. Surely Jason with more men and more space, loading is going to be easier and quicker when operating an ATG in contrast to a AFV.
  20. "one reason that he didnt kill them at dunkirk was that he didnt want to upset the brits more than they all ready were." LOL m8, of course he wanted the BEF smashed. He shouldn't of left the job to the fool Goring.
  21. Dam, so its not worth me buying a laptop for CM?
  22. LOL Moon u bast. Only played Allies as yet, same as Galatine, can only hold Western front line for 4-5 months, one f*** up and everything goes to pot. On the plus side I've managed to smash the Italian and German fleet for little loss, so I rule the Med, N sea etc. Also an operation in Norway has gone quite well.
