  1. Hans If you email me in the next few days, I will be able to furnish you with some pictures of the North Downs, a ridge running south of London.
  2. None of the points you believe you had to drag someone along to was in contention. So, why don't you try it yourself? I don't think you will have a chance, but just have a go. I believe that as long as there is a free supply of good scenarios, it will be difficult to convince BFC that there is a need to change their policy. It has worked quite well, after all.
  3. I am not sure if they have that right. I am sure though that if they have it, they have never exercised it. I also do not believe for a second that they ever would exercise it, at least not as long as the current crew runs BFC. Quite apart from the fact that anyone paying money for such a Germanboy SE CD would need to have their head examined for various, fairly obvious reasons.
  4. This is another document that was made available by one of the moderators on the Axishistory forum, from the US Army report series authored by captured German generals in this case. Had not even a quick skim yet, but I am sure it will amuse the Finns greatly. Warfare in the North thread See also my thread 'Armour in Neptune' on the CMAK forum for a gem of a historical report.
  5. I am certain it did happen in Russia, even later then 1941, I was just saying that the regulations were really not endorsing it. I guess soldiers have a habit of ignoring them if they get in the way of survival.
  6. Mark The Refs also diddled you out of your MMGs, so you would probably have refused payment because of this, or even charged them for loss of fun/realism/etc. Actually, I just remembered your face during the last battle, and I am sure I would not have had the stomach to ask you for any payment, even if we had agreed on that before hand. Will - it has nothing to do with socialism, but with the enforcement of the private property rights by the game code developer. A very capitalist concept. I.e. BFC have as part of their EULA that you are not allowed to charge for scenarios. That is their prerogative, and to infringe it by charging is socialism - i.e. the ignorance of their property rights.
  7. The 8,8 could be fired from the wheeled mount, and was. This was not encouraged in Russia, but was encouraged in the desert, due to the different nature of the warfare in the two theatres, and the different supply issues (the carriage was somewhat harder to come by in Russia, I guess). Accuracy would be less, but it could be brought into action more quickly, and move more quickly to escape counter-barrages. This has not been modelled in CMAK. The regulations regarding this use that I have seen date from May 1943 (i.e. just after the Panzerarmee Afrika surrender). @Big Jim Your new sig is far more original.
  8. Thread on Axishistory Forum In the thread, one of the moderators has kindly made available an all but lost publication from the US Army armoured school in Fort Knox, dated 1949, about the role of armour in the initial stages of Neptune, apparently based on interviews with participants. Haven't read it all myself, but it looks very promising. Just thought I'd air this link here as well.
  9. Comrade Dandelion, the Wing Commissar wants to have a word about that missing bit of The Peoples' property, i.e. half the landing gear. [sound of a Makarov being cocked in the background]
  10. You get a bit of that around the North Downs, just south of London.
  11. Unfortunately you get a lot of Budweiser (US) in Germany now. I think they just call it 'Bud'. Don't get me started on the UK.
  12. First of all, I am German, so I have no national pride issues on this particular question, I can assure you. Whether others think it is 'not probable' that I was objective is of very little concern to me - since it is quite probable they know very little about me, I don't take their opinion very seriously, and they are wrong in their assumption anyway. Secondly, to say that the Dutch police did as much or little as other police forces is a meaningless statement. The Danish police apparently did not help the Germans. The Vichy police force actively assisted them, in some cases going beyond the requirements the Germans had (Deportation of children). So where did the Dutch police fall on this 'continuum'? Did they do more or less then the French, or more or less then the Danes? Clearly the Danes had a much better chance to rescue their Jewish citizens then the Dutch. There probably were fewer of them, an un-occupied country was nearby, and maybe the Germans in Denmark helped a bit as well. But was that all? What did the Dutch police actually do? I note nobody has answered that question or corrected me - since Tweety's answer is, as pointed out above, not really very helpful. That Dutch resistance did a lot is not the issue here, and I never questioned that anyway. So did French resistance, and German resistance even tried to kill Hitler. That does not absolve everyone in the country by default. I don't have an axe to grind, I don't care for Danes more or less then I care for the Dutch, and I clearly would be the automatic loser in a 'my country, your country, and the Jews' contest. So maybe some people can leave their national pride at the door for a moment, and just tell me a little bit about what actually happened?
  13. He is talking German 3,7cm PAK36. Look at the source.
  14. Hey Mike, did someone wee into your cereal bowl today?
  15. Paul Where is that Carius quote from? You haven't been to Germany, have you?
  16. It is in all CM games, but I am damned if I can remember the number. It goes by the name of 'Stummel', which as said above, translates as 'stumb'.
  17. Yes, and in the Panzer III Ausf. N.
  18. The main problem for me was that it is so depressing to read about Cassino. So I did not feel inclined to design anything for it.
  19. Try this - you want the battalion war diary scan of the 7th South Staffs for August. Not much in there, other then that it must have been a nasty business indeed.
  20. He'll just lounge about in a deckchair with a G&T in his hand, instructing us to claw dirt with our fingernails.
  21. Although I just remembered that the free drink will just about make up for the excellent WineCape wines I left at your place. I am regretting that, you know.
