1. Steve Fair enough. I do know a WW2 tanker that was on Chaffees and Stuarts in Europe from Normandy till the end. I'll be seeing him in a few weeks and will be sure to pick his brain for all his gunnery knowledge. We've only discussed the mundane and boring aspects of war and never anything technical. Rother
 2. Steve I still think the chance to hit on the move is way too high. Here's a real world test for you. Take a spotting scope, binos, or rifle scope and mount it solidly to a vehicle (the Weasel would work great). Now drive somewhere and try to look through the scope but please get someone else to drive. It's much worse in a turret I can assure you. The gun moving on a tank isn't the problem. The problem is trying to look through magnified optics on the move. Rother

I gotta agree with that and what Mr Smith said about the M1. You aren't going to hit a damn thing on the move even with a gyro. You always stop, fire and then move. 6. I would never even consider wearing normal combat boots under anything if you want to stay warm. The only boot that is worth a damn in the arctic are bunny boots (not bunny slippers). Unless you can get ahold of some real seal mukluks with a walrus sole. Can you wear non-issue gear? 100% merlino wool socks are incredible. Don't even question the ridiculous price. Get them. I was an Eskimo Scout for a time and as long we were green on the outside it didn't matter what we wore underneath. I had extra big BDUs for the winter so I could wear enough gear to sleep in the snow at -40. As a matter of fact I'm wearing bunny boots right now. Everything on my floor is frozen including the dog's water dish. You should see my CPU temperature right now. An overclockers dream. Rother
 7. Your BMP is a JPG. Looks good though. Not bad for a southern boy. Rother
 8. Well a LAV is a LAV. A LAV with a 105 instead of a 25 just doesn't have as much live meat behind the gun. It's still almost 10 feet tall.
 9. Wolfpack, the LAV is just as tall as a Bradley. The difference is in inches. I believe they use the same turret also.
 10. Cavguy, where'd you get the 45 tons for a Bradley? The A1 is 21 tons empty 25 tons combat loaded. A2 from memory is 30 tons loaded. From what I've read the A3 is about 33.5 tons combat loaded. So that would make it about 30 tons empty. Anyway I think the M551 is the obvious choice instead of a LAV. I remember having Marine LAVs as augmentees at NTC. They couldn't keep up with a M551. I can't think of any vehicle that we have that could go where I took my 551 at NTC. Can you say mountain goat? The LAV, M2 and M113 are all too top heavy and an M1 is just too big. Rother
 11. Send 'em my way. I loved the demo scenarios. Haven't played them in ages.
 12. Another thing I do is keep my address book empty. I have a text file with them all listed instead. I might get infected but at least I won't be spreading the disaese. That all started when I was on some listbot email thing and I recieved about 150 happypark.exe viruses overnight. I couldn't believe how many bozos had the whole list of hundreds of people in their address book. Rother
 13. I'm just a little disappointed you didn't include my unit. 3D Armored Hamster Division "Spearhamster". I just talked to Elvis and he feels the same way. Keep up the good work and remember all is fair in comedy, parody and satire. Rother
 14. Cool! All I got for X-mas was a Montesa hat that I had to pay for and a broken pair of ski goggles.
 15. I'd love to have the Micro-Armor. Mainly the Russian stuff. That would more than double my meager force. Rother
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Formerly Babra: So could a dozen men fit? I'd say certainly: Four on a side and four on the floor -- it could be done.

Sounds reasonable enough, but you're not going to get four sitting on the floor. Maybe five on a side, two crew standing at the guns, squad leader and asl up front with the driver, and all the extra gear on the floor in the back. I might have missed somebody. I think you overestimated the width inside. I could be wrong though. Rother
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by PzKpfw 1: So Rother, how did the US gunner determine range with the US sight to begin with? US sights wern't granulated with range tick's, their was a mark for 500yrds after that their was no way to calculate range. The granulations in the US sight are for elevation, which means that range had to be determined first & then elevation adjusted accordingly. Regards, John Waters

Notice the horizontal and verticle lines in the reticle. The horizontals are twice as long as the verticals. All you have to do is determine how long they are in mils. Once you know that it's exactly the same as using the triangles in the German sight to determine range. You can do the same thing with just about any sight reticle. You can even use the front sight post on a rifle or even your hand with your arm outstreched. It's not rocket science. Rother
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by PzKpfw 1: Anyway concerning sights, notice the difrences? German tanks have a way to determine the range & zize of the target, US sights have no range determination ability at all other then makeing a guesstimate and adjusting shotfall accordingly.

Look at the US sight again. You can use the US reticle in almost the exact same way as the German to determine range. It's even quicker since you don't have to adjust the sight for the correct range just elevate the gun to the proper range which you have to do anyway even with the German sight. The US sight is far superior for making that quick first shot. Rother
 19. All I got to say is any of you playing the Villers-Bocage operation just kill the commander of the PzIV V-12 immediately. He's an imposter. Rother

 23.
quote:
Originally posted by danielh: Gentleman, To the "Zeiss"-subject once more. The most important question to go ahead is: WAS THERE ANY HELP IN THE AMERICAN SIGHTS TO DETERMINE RANGE ? YES OR NO ? If yes how did it work (technical explanation please so all can go through it, no citing of it's worth first) Thank you ! Daniel

Here's a picture of the reticle in the American M38A2 sight http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/turret/pegunnery/Figure%204.jpg (I know it's from another game but that really doesn't matter). Notice the the length of the verticle and horizontal lines and the space between them. You can use this sight to rangefind in almost the exact same way as the triangles in the Zeiss sight. The big difference is once you figure the range with the American sight all you need to do is elevate or depress the gun to line up the proper reticle, fire and bracket from there. If I understand the Zeiss sight correctly once you have the range you need to turn a knob to adjust the reticle for that range and then move the gun on target. There's that extra step with the German sight which IMHO makes it that much harder to use. Was that what you were looking for? 24. I realize that. Maybe I wasn't clear. I'm sneaking the platoon forward basically under cover to an overwatch position where I'll set the mortar and MG before advancing forward again. I'm not sneaking necassarily to keep quiet, just to check my speed with the rest of the advance. I don't want my mortar and MG to sneak but I want them to slow down to half speed to not get ahead. All I'm asking for is a slow move command for units that can't sneak when issuing group movement orders. Rother
