1.
quote:
Originally posted by MikeO: Just took a peek at the latest vehicle list and noticed this little beauty (smiley overload time). Oh, you little teases, BTS. And I thought you weren't going to put it in. All your hard work is much appreciated. The little details on top of the main features are what will make this game a true classic. Little touches like the late war German uniforms in the gold demo ARE noticed by the real anoraks like me. Vehicle list is more than comprehensive. Any future requests? Well the strange vehicles used by the 21st Panzers in Normandy would be nice (the Becker conversions and the old PzIVBs and Cs but I know you already have those in mind). Cheers! Mike

Is there some info out there about some of these conversions? What exactly did this Beck...er person do? [This message has been edited by CEO (edited 05-17-2000).]
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Commissar: Does anyone know a site on the net where I could find a current TO&E of a Russian/Soviet tank or motorized infantry division? An older Soviet TO&E (early 1990's or slightly earlier) would be fine. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try this: ftp://ftp.thegamers.net/pub/toaw/stuff/wpoob.zip It says it is from 1988, hopefully it will help you out.
 3. A quote from the article:
quote:
What you won’t find is blood, or swastikas, or SS soldiers; Hasbro is quite adamant on maintaining a "family" atmosphere, and is equally determined to market the game in Germany, where there are certain restrictions on showing Nazi regalia.

I didn't know war had turned into a "family" atmosphere.
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by TeAcH: For the future, Id like to see an option to print out tactical maps in color. Id take mine, put it in a sheet protector and attack it with a grease pen for my battle. I know we can use a screen capturing util now to get the job done (e.g. hypersnap) but how bout adding this down the road. Your thoughts? TeAcH

Why don't you just hit print screen with the map zoomed out to the level you need, then Esc to windows and paste it into Photoshop, or equivalent, then print the thing out?
 5. A little publicity for Combat Mission at: http://www.gonegold.com Hopefully many people will see it there and share in the best wargame ever.
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Dalton: Something that puzzles me is why vehicles mounting rocket batteries were not common (AFAIK) in WWII. Man-portable rockets were effective against armored targets: the US Bazooka, UK PIAT and German Panzerfaust (sp?). My understanding is that a fairly small rocket could pack the HE punch of medium arty. Planes mounted rockets...Why not AFVs? Any info on this would be appreciated! ...Dalton

Hate to be nit-picky, but didn't the PIAT use a spring to propel the round?
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Lorak: Hey this is most likely a dumb topic but what the hay. After reading the thread on how people got their names, I started wondering about gaming enviroment for CM. I have to listen to music when I game and was wondering what other people use to put them in a "let's blow this up" mood. I'm a little strange in musical taste. I find CM goes really good with soft celtic music. Instrumental are my favs. Followed by anything in Irish or latin. For english Lyrics I'll go for some Eithne (Enya). Oh, and LOL I like the pipes too. ok, so now I've removed all doubt that I'm a nut. Any comments? besides the obvious Lorak

Definately The Battle of Hoth from Empire Strikes Back.
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by Simon Fox: When I jesusified the CM Vision thread.... "I don't know about thee, but I'm goddamn this simian or a distant relative of one." ROFL! A great link, thanks brother simian

Or everyone's favorite: "We shall only burnt offer games and other products that wargamers covet, not whatsoever some bean-counter at the local superstore thinks shall sell the quickest. Substance upon Hype. This is whatsoever Battlefront.com is all about. So long as thee support us, we will be here for you. " That is the funniest web sight I have ever seen.
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Username: Steve Realistically the software companies should make it harder for these crimes to be perpertrated. They should all ban together and get the government to support them. I am sure that most pirates wouldnt walk into CompUSA and steal a video card because its very difficult to do and easy to get caught. Likewise, the industry should make it difficult to pirate copyrighted software. Its all going to boil down to more expense for software developers. Theres no easy answer but I would do the following. People buy CDROM games and the low upfront cost (lets say $9.99)covers the packaging expenses. They take the game home and load it and they HAVE to get online to register WITH a credit card. Every time they play they have to pay a small fee online (they can pre-order multiple games for airplane trips with laptops). Lets say 25cents a game. There is a "code of the day" that gets them playing. After they have spent 50 bucks (200 plays), they can play for a nickel a game. They can never change credit cards and the game becomes non-transferable. Its just an idea but you get my point. Its up to the software industry to protect itself. It might mean a change in the way the industry does business. Make the CDROM just a tool like the computer itself, not the product. Lewis

I would never buy another computer game EVER again if everyone did this. It is just to damn inconvenient. EVERY time I want to play/use the software I have to pay? No thanks. If companies did this, I think my computer gaming addiction would go away (maybe).

 12.
quote:
Originally posted by DEF BUNGIS: I can't say that I wish I would had taken part in WWII. It was no doubt a horrible time in our worlds history. But did you ever imagine yourself as that poor, dirty, tired ground pounder on the eastern front?........ As a kid, did you ever imagine taking a bazooka during WWII and getting a direct hit on a german tiger?.......... Well, for me, if I had to go back, I would have wanted to be a bazooka gunner for the 101st AB. What a thrill, the rush of adrenaline flow, fear, excitement of dropping behind enemy lines, cut off from supplies, reaching down for your soul and a basic primitive instinct to survive. Getting close enough to an enemy tank for a kill..... Thats me. So, what would you want to have been???? Any STUKA pilots in the crowd?

To have a "god's eye view" of the entire conflict.
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Lanzfeld: Thank God!.... It's almost been 20 minutes since I last heard that name!

Send him back home to his father. Get him away from his US relative who are spoiling the kid rotten so that he won't want to go back, not because he thinks he'll be free. When I was his age, all I wanted was to be with my parents and play with my friends.....
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Ol' Blood & Guts: If memory serves, BTS will update the official site once the game has been shipped. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see a list myself, but I think they are going to wait until the game is out before they revamp the site.

I would have to agree. If they started updating the site, everyone here would start bitching that they were spending too much time on the site and not enough on the game, etc. etc.
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Johan Brittz: I have a bit of a problem with my neighbours cat assaulting my pet ducks and when I saw this weapon I knew that it would solve my problem. 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Username: Is UL really not-for-profit? What about bribes? Only kidding. Whats the difference between UL approved and recognized? I would guess one is testing and the other means you are within some guidelines? Lewis

Yes UL is not-for-profit, and no I haven't accepted any bribes! Yes. There is the UL Listed product. This is usually an entire piece of equipment. A PC, TV, VCR, Monitor, etc. which fully complies with the applicable UL standard for safety (For Information Tech. Equip., it is UL 1950). A UL Recognized component has certain restrictions placed on it. It is not a complete piece of equipment. Exemples would be: a power switch, CD-ROM drive in your PC, Hard drive, X and Y capacitors, plastics, etc, etc.
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Mark IV: UL = Underwriter's Laboratory. Test & certification service for electrical and electronic devices. In Europe, a comparable service (or rating) might be CE, though they are more concerned with emissions than electrical safety.

I would say a UL mark would be the "equivalent" to a VDE, or TUV, or BSI (or any other nationally recognized european certification agency) mark. With a CE mark, any manufacturer may apply it and claim the equipment meets the applicable standard's requirements. So, a UL, VDE, TUV, BSI, etc. mark tells you that the equipment was evaluated by someone other than the manufacturer. The CE mark may have been evaluated by one (or more) of the above companies, or the mfg. evaluated it and put the CE mark on. Anyway, to steer this thread back to topic, my vote is for Fionn to win and that other person to lose. (If anyone has any more questions about UL and CE marking, email me) [This message has been edited by CEO (edited 03-26-2000).]

 24.
quote:
Originally posted by Username: You mean Butte-iful dont you? What EE work do you do?
