  1. Can we get back to the original question? Which was, are the Nashorns going to be awesome? Bobo presented some disturbing info in Reply #25 that indicated there is something wrong with the Nashorn. Maybe the gunner or commander is facing the wrong way? Didn't that happen with another AFV?
  2. Jason - do you have a source that summarizes typical engagements and ranges? That would interesting...
  3. 5-10 shots is a lot...in CM. But I think that is more because we tend to stand and shoot it out a lot more than in actual combat. In real life they might take two shots, if they don't get a hit they move whilst we sit there and a keep pounding until one or the other is knocked out. But, in my experience, that is usually not more than 2-3 shots tops. Have we ever seen a duel where either gun fired 10 rounds without hitting? If you are going to compare overall rounds fired to kills in theater then I would agree with you. As I said above, many engagements are 1-2 shots and then they move. This negates the very significant benefits of successive shots - with each shot the hit rate is increasing dramatically. If you stop after one or two you are going to miss a lot more than if you always take 3 or 4 shots - or 10. Of course your chance of taking accurate return fire increases at least as fast! Hence the shoot and scoot... My feeling is that the wire guided missiles are not more accurate with successive shots. is that true? Does anyone have a table (similar to what Vanir posted) for a Javelin or similar?
  4. That does not sound right. Right?
  5. From AchtungPanzer.com: "It is reported that in early March of 1945, Lieutenant Beckmann from sPzJagAbt 88 destroyed Soviet IS-2 at the range of 4600 meters near Marzdorf." Didn't say how many shots though...
  6. 5-10 shots is a lot. With the stereoscopic rangefinder they should be getting hits by the second if not the first. Getting the proper range is everything...
  7. Does anyone know of a scenario with Nashorns on a large open map?
  8. So a scenario designer can use them?
  9. My understanding is that the Nashorn was accidentally left off the German TOE but will be included in the patch...
  10. Is it too much to ask to have a guy jump out of the command Nashorn and set up the rangefinder and hear him call out the range in German? Is it?
  11. I am looking forward to seeing what the Nashorn can do - if the maps are big enough! My question how/if the battery range finder will be modeled or abstracted? Any thoughts?
  12. I saw a photo of an IS-2 next to a Tiger I and the IS-2 was a LOT smaller, at least from the front. Surprisingly so. I am having trouble finding the photo though...anybody seen it?
  13. Jason, I agree with what you said. But we were talking about if Russia were the size of France. In the initial advance Germany took an area at least twice the size of France and destroyed at least the equivalent of The 1940 French army. Game over. But you only get to fight France once...
  14. Yes, it would have been over in a couple of months. The Soviets had size (both land and population) and used it all the way to the end. They didn't need to finesse things.
  15. Agreed. The scenarios we have so far (but I haven't seen them all of course) take place after all of the interesting maneuvering that Jason describes. Nashorns, when they make their appearance, won't last 10 seconds... However, to do this justice will probably require maps that are probably 4 kms wide and 8 kms deep. But the forces will still be pretty small so I would expect the engine could still handle it. Has anyone made such a scenario?
  16. Definitely the Nashorn. But that should change soon...
  17. I wonder what the Germans were thinking when the designed the PzKw IV front this way. Did they do any testing on this particular combination of angles and armor thicknesses? At the time of the design the largest AT gun was a 50mm (?) so maybe the T/D ratio wasn't such a big deal to them at the time.
  18. Exactly Mike, if you are having problems with vehicles bumping into each other on the roads then they are too close together. If anything, the game should sense that and drop some mortars on the grouping just because...
  19. I agree, but this is something that can be worked out with some playtesting...
  20. What about small campaigns? Anybody working on those? On a related note does anyone think we will ever have true multiplayer games, i.e. 3 on 2?
  21. What about the 88mm AT gun? Was that successful, or still too large to lug around the battlefield?
  22. How is BF going to handle the out-of-vehicle telescopic sight? Was this only used for shots beyond a certain distance which is longer than the largest RT map?
  23. If you like mobile 88s try the Nashorn. As soon as they allow us to purchase them in a QB...
  24. But advancing more slowly and through cover would allow more wounded to receive medic aid. Would that alter the KIA/WIA ratio?
