  1. All three on my two computers at home. Had to remove them from my work computer as I was running out of disk space and a recent reshuffle moved me from a comfy cubicle to a large table with no privacy so no gamey.
  2. I have had good success with copying the info on the CD to the hard drive. It still took most of forever to complete the install. I had to redo it twice. Hopefully they will use a DVD next time. Being able to drag the folders to my hard drive instead of suffering a 1.5 hour install would be much preferred.

  4. There is no tracking or other shipping info. When it shows up, you will know right where it is. I ordered late on the day of pre order, received a acknowledgement within minutes and got it today courtesy of the US Priority Mail service.
  5. Ahh, it has made it to beautiful west Michigan. Sadly, a Christmas party will take my evening away so my first battle will have to wait until later. Nice cover!

  7. Another choice would be to get a PCI video card and change your monitor to the outputs from that without having to do without your other card when you need it.. 16mb ones are easy to find. A 32mb 7000 is also possible as are flashed 64mb units: http://www.welovemacs.com/0816rp7m.html A discussion: http://www.mail-archive.com/g-list@mail.maclaunch.com/msg18608.html Places to buy: http://www.bizrate.com/marketplace/search/search.xpml?cat_id=405&prod_id=6435402&rf=wgg [ December 01, 2003, 07:21 PM: Message edited by: kmead ]
  8. You are kidding right? This would be another example of a truly fine example of British armor that had a long history of use in the field of battle. Of course it should be in... "Some of the medium tanks developped in the twenties survived until World War II. They were restricted to training role but some were used as fixed defense posts, as in Tobruk in June 1942" So it was used dug in, can't say I would want to have spent any time in it. "Was designed for hot climates, but proved to have problems when sent to Africa. Some were fitted with panels of asbestos to help reduce the heat inside the tank but proved ineffectual. At the start of the war it was used mostly for training. Some used in Western Desert Forces at Mersa Matruh and Tobruk (1940-41)." Given the rarity of these, I wouldn't expect to see them. 9. The best way to ensure its not embedded is to zip it or other utility for making a discrete file. All too often text files can be merged by the email process. If it does happen, just do a save as to create a text file and CM will open it as the next turn.
  10. I preordered as well, I have always wanted to fight the western desert and it allows primary creation of the majority of fighting across France and Germany. I've never much cared for the King Tiger and Pershing in any case, though the Cromwell will be missed. I too lament the OS9 issue. and am looking at buying a older G4 tower to live in OS9 (and to run all my older kids software that my 2 year old can benefit from, or at least thats what I tell the wife ) In the meantime, I use an older Powerbook that is marginal, but its running the demo fine (aside from the swamp edge graphic issue. However, as Dan pointed out, this will sate the appetite while we wait for the engine upgrade and keep some cash flow to underwrite the "down time" while its being written. It all looks great, by the way, but you should see the downsampling a 6mb video card gives you Thanks for another great product (I was expecting to pay more, many thanks!).
  11. Much to all our dismay, the statement you read is correct. There is no way so far to get the CM series with the existing game engine to run in OSX or under Classic withing X. You have to boot into OS 9.x.x or earlier directly. The only currently shipping Macs that will boot into OS9 are the G3 iBooks and the 1.25 and dual 1.25 G4 towers still available. BFC is now beginning work on a new graphics engine that will be built around OpenGL as the graphic API and as long as Apple doesn't change course again, we will get CMII running native under OSX. I would expect a minimum of 1.5 to 2 years until this occurs. Until that time it requires a machine that can be booted into OS 9. You may wonder why it will take this long, it is due to the small staff that does this work (1 man) at BFC. Sorry for the bad news. It is something we have been grappling with for the last 2 years. Unless Apple changes how the RAVE API is handled in Classic under OSX don't expect to run CM on a machine that doesn't boot into OS9. As for some work arounds, the only one that does work works only on CMBO, which runs in software rendering (very slow) mode only at 640 x 480 pixels. CMBB and CMAK both require 800 x 600 and will not work under software rendering. Any computer can have multiple partitions on its hard drive, Apple has not removed this ability. What it has removed due to wanting people to use OSX only, is the further development of OS9 and hardware to allow new machines to boot into OS9. 12. Been there, done that, no tee shirt and no satisfaction. Its worth trying again though. Running in Classic is a very unlikely proposition as BFC did look pretty closely at doing so and got no real support from Apple.

  14. Unless you find a old model in stock at a local reseller, all new eMacs are OSX only. I believe they omitted the OS9 boot model last month. A G4 1.25 tower with a 19" monitor will run you about 1500 which is alot, but its a fine machine. The 14" G3 iBook has 32mb of vram and is a pretty good machine. I'd go with the tower as it is upgradeable. Another choice is to pick up a older G4 tower, a Sawtooth or newer which has an upgradeable video card. You can probably get a serviceable 450 mhz G4 for @300 and sell your iMac for 1-200. Buy a cheap monitor at a discounter and really enjoy CM a great deal more. I looked on Ebay and there are good units available. The G4s are really reliable (I administer 10 of them and aside from HDs going after 4 years of continuous use they have not failed) and are very easy to upgrade with components you can pick up at any computer store (CD burners, hard drives, memory).
  15. yunfat : Heres a heads up. The "press release" on XLR8 was a brief email note from me to him. I apparently was not clear in sending all the information to him, so any fault or error was mine. I had Mike correct it as soon as he posted other info. I presume you were the one individual that complained about the OSX compatibility. I apologize to you if the information was not as complete as it should have been. I aplogize much more to Matt, Martin, Charles and Steve that I may have caused a bit of a row around here. I sent my note with info to try to get the word out about a great product, that will run on many Macs and didn't seem to be getting the press it deserves. As an FYI, Mac compatible does still mean older versions of OS. As a working design professional, OSX didn't have enough native software until this year to be a professional platform for many users. I brought my group to OSX this year once enough became available. There are still many many Mac users that use OS9.X.X as it is the only way for them to get the job done. As for the chip you have on your shoulder, lose it. We have suffered your vile vitriole repeatedly and you do nothing but spout the same crap over and over even after patient people try to assist you with a better understanding of the situation. You are proof that an insensitive Mac twit is just as bad as a PC twit. If you don't like the product, fine, don't buy it. Its a great product so you are missing out. If you really want to run the product, buy a old Mac and use it as a game machine for CM, if you are not that committed to CM then fine, move along. Matt has explained this situation to you several times as have I. It is clear in Matt's note how he and the rest of BFC feel about the situation. I pursued the OSX thing long before you came along, we knew what the writing on the wall was as soon as Apple beta'd OSX. I listened and participated in a few debates that may have worn out my welcome here to some degree, but I eventually understood and moved on. I felt strongly enough about having a machine that ran CMBO, CMBB and now CMAK, that I bought a MDD unit that was dual boot last year so I could. As for the engine rewrite, given that Apple's market share is miniscule, and Mac gamers are an even more minute part of that, there is no economically justifiable reason for them to have done so. Especially when there was real money to be made from MSW users that didn't require a rewrite for them to extend the franchise. The choice for BFC was sell a product to a majority of users and continue to exist and grow as a company or shut down, lose momentum, while they did a rewrite for 10,000 or so additional Mac package sales versus the possibility of several hundred thousand sales to PC users for the two new packages. What would you choose? Be thankful they continue to work on a Mac and make available a version that will work on a Mac at all. The number of interesting games for the Mac can be counted on one hand. Abusing Matt and company for a situation they really can do nothing about doesn't make them want to support Macs more. As a Mac addict, finding ways to help evangelize CM and making it work for others should be your aim, not demonizing people for a situation that is beyond their control. Alright so off my soapbox. Again my apologies for not sending out complete information, just trying to spread the word.
  16. A rev A or Rev B iMac would be in the original Bondi blue. The rev C and above came in the many candy colors, which included Blueberry. The Rev C machines came with 8.6 which were the slot loaders. The originals came with 8 mb of Vram, a fine increase over the 4 and 6 mb of its forebearers. OS 9 bootable machines are still available new from Apple, either as a G3 iBook or a single or dual processor G4 Mirrored Dual Drive unit. The single processor version can be had for as little as 1270 with a Radeon 9000. I have a dual 867 MDD bought almost exactly a year ago and it is a fine dual boot machine, effectively the same as the current shipping units. The artwork for CMBB is rather subdued in general.
  17. You can effectively enjoy all of the features of CMBO (except for bocage) using CMAK. All of the primary units are in CMAK and with the Italian landscape it should be fairly easy to create any CMBO scenario. A rare case of having your cake and eating it too.
  18. I think that alot of low number members start posting again as there is something new to post about. After the release of a new product there is this nice time period where all of us are sharing in a variety of new experiences and issues. As time goes on, much of the discussion devolves into many of the same things we have all talked about, again and again and again. Which is not to say that they are bad things to talk about, just after a while it becomes tedious to revisit. Michael and several others of course enjoy this repeitive pattern so they can get their post count up. That and enjoy the repeated opportunity to say: Do a search or join in the chorus of: BFC Fix or do Somefink! I don't recall the exact date of the original Night of the Refresh Monkeys, but what night that was! Although not the polished gems we have now, it changed my life for many months, much to my wife's chagrin I do believe that most of us are around or ghost in and out to see how things are progressing, we just are not posting day to day. I agree a bit about the US/Brit thing though, I know CMBB didn't grab me in the way CMBO did and am hoping AK will.
  19. That was a fine picture, right up until the last bit. Nasty.
  20. So, you are refering to the A13 Mk III - Cruiser Tank Mk V aka Covenantor, 1940 ? http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Quarters/7413/a13iii.html Truly an auspicious vehicle that will really be missed in CMAK: From http://www.wwiivehicles.com/html/britain/cruiser_mk_v_covenanter.html
  21. As it would not be for comercial redistribution, I would be happy to snail mail Mac version on CD
  22. They wash the streets at night, and I am not kidding. When I was in Barcelona (I know this isn't CM: The Spanish Civil War ) I was surprised coming back from lots of bar hopping that they were washing all the streets in the old city.
  23. Speaking of slums, I remember when lowlife such as Seanachai would have rolled on the ground slavering spittle for the two measly graphics displayed and publicly flagellate himself to get just one more. Such airs this guttersnipe has gathered about him, speaking of odors...
  24. Isn't there a room for folks with your unfortunate disabilities? Someone must have left the door of the rubber room open, so how about taking this back to your ever present challenge and leave this thread behind? [ November 11, 2003, 07:21 AM: Message edited by: kmead ]
