  1. Although the original art that was the beginning of the CMBO website in June of 1999 (I am sure that someone with more patience and time will dig it up) is not immediately available, it was good enough to get me to preorder in August or September of that year. So they had a working rough version of the engine at that time. If you look elsewhere on this website you will see that parts of it are at least 5 years old, so my guess is that it was at least 5 and a half years ago, but the dream of it more likely has been around for most of ten. Originally it was going to be ASL on the computer for Avalon Hill I believe and then things soured (ala GIC's rough experience a few years ago) or something to that effect and they struck out on their own. If you read the manifesto you will get a better idea of why things are the way they are around here. I am sure someone will come along and enlighten you further and more accurately, but I guess for now this will have to suffice.
  2. Is it a white iBook? You may be able to run it on a white iBook if it has 8mb of video ram. I could run it on my old iMacDV which had a 400mhz processor and 8mb of vram. Stay away from large scenarios.
  3. Great catch, many thanks. Although this is not among my problems it is great that you found the solution. If anyone wants the files, I have extracted them and can email them to you. The files are about 4 megs so it may have to be in multiple mailings.
  4. Sordftr: ensure that you are running OpenGL 1.2.1. It can be found here: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/3338 Hope that helps.
  5. Keep in mind that Jpegs are tolerant of some errant bytes transposed or missing. CM is not. For whatever reason, lots of isps drop parts of text files when they grow over 500k. It may also be a limitation of MS Outlook which I had been using in the past. It may also be a function of how you have your email setup. there was a excellent post last week or so about how to set up your email especially on a Mac.
  6. Where are you? The game is sent from Burlington, VT by US mail. To the area east of the Miss. expect 2-3 days, points west 4-5 days. If you are in Canada, customs will extend it much longer. Anywhere overseas will cause it to be a week or several depending on where you are. No order sent acknowledgement is sent to you. You can't track it. Relax, although you may not know our hosts here well yet, they are real good people that will deliver the goods. Enjoy your days before it arrives as you will likely not have anytime to do anything else until spring, maybe not even then.
  7. Thank you, I think I will. I posted the following to Macintouch's feedback page for OS10.2.3, we'll see if we get any responses. I will also post the same to Apple's website.
  8. I haven't played in a while and I know this didn't occur with CMBO, today I booted into OS9.2.2 and ran CMBB. I get a black screen while the computer is kerchunking on the Computer's turn and generating the movie file. Does CMBB do this to everybody now or is it just now that I have OSX 10.2.3 with the updated OpenGL (v 1.4 I believe) that it includes and adds to Classic and therefor to my OS 9.2.2 installation? So, would someone kindly let me in on what the behavior is on their Mac system. Thanks. Edited to add what I am running: G4MDD Dual 867 Geforce 4MX 32Mb with extension Geforce2mx.kext v 1.2.8.8.0 OpenGL v 1.2.1.9.0 AGL.framework 2.2.7 for OpenGl compatibility 867mb Ram OS 10.2.3 OS9.2.2 Thanks for the response Tom. 9. This is a known issue with all large PBEM files of 500k and above. In order to get them through the various ISPs between two opponents, it is neccessary to ZIP or Stuffit the files. This ensures that the file is smaller (in some cases) and that a checksum is done at transmission and receipt to ensure file integrity. It is often noted when you use MS Outlook as your email front end.
  10. No solution that I know of was posted. Did either of you install the Nvidia driver update from last month?
  11. I sent the following info to Ebay: This looks to be a pirated copy as the artwork shown is not correct. Nor is the E rating from the real game. This game is available from the original publisher, Battlefront.com and their European distributor CDV. CDV sells only in Europe under BFC's agreement. All other sales which would include Thailand would have been mailorder only from BFC. BFC's artwork is not what is shown on the CD depicted in the sale. Hope that helps.
  12. The install seems to go much smoother if you copy the CD to your hard drive and run it from there. I had trouble the first time and found the hd install took much less time and seemed to be more accurate. Glad you sorted it out.
  13. Yes I concur, no joy in 10.2.3. I do get some graphics showing up, but cannot access any of the game controls and moving the cursor to the edge of the screen does nothing. Shame on Apple. [ December 19, 2002, 08:08 PM: Message edited by: kmead ]
  14. Michael: I fear to suggest this, have you tried putting your old video card back in. It is possible the video car is the culprit and could even be defective. Just a thought.
  15. Trolls! There's Trolls in the dungeon!!! (Faints to the floor.) [ December 18, 2002, 06:44 AM: Message edited by: kmead ]
  16. I ran CMBB only a few times on my iMac with 9.2.2 before it was retired and in my case I never sufferred any problem. CMBO was run unnumerable times with 9.2.2 without any trouble. Have you deleted or at least removed unneeded video drivers and so on from the System? I also would strongly suggest a clean install of the OS, which is usually quite painless as you can trade in all your old prefs and so on. I am not talking format or anything of that nature. Resetting the PRAM would also be in order. As you have Tech Tool its a safe and easy procedure. Another gig of ram wouldn't be a bad idea either. Right now its cheap as dirt, relatively speaking, and when you come over to the dark side (X) you'll be glad to have it.
  17. Presuming you have a Mac, the prefs file is in the System folder/ Preferences folder. With CM shut down, delete the file, set your desktop resolution to the disired one and start up CM again. Done. If you are on MSW I apologize as I don't know.
  18. Does this behavior manifest itself after using CMBO and CMBB? If CMBB only, it would suggest that its and issue with CMBB differences in code.
  19. Not to worry, I lurked in the shadows for 6 months before I thought I had anything useful to say. Ok, its still debateable . In any case welcome to the forum and the games. You're right, having participated in other forums, the signal to noise ratio here is really high. The forums are one of the best parts of the game. Aside from the cesspool... 20. I have had the same thing happening when playing Ghost Recon. I suspect it may be a Geforce driver issue. I have not suffered the issue with ATI cards.
  21. Might I suggest trying the Tech Support forum? This particular forum is for game play. I suspect you have a driver problem. When you post to the tech area, please include your OS, processor, video card, video driver version and any other pertinent info that would assist in helping you. Please include which version you are running (CDV European or BFC US version). I am sorry you are having troubles with your set up. The game itself is generally very bug free, so once you get your hardware sorted out, you should have a pretty good time. [ December 14, 2002, 09:09 PM: Message edited by: kmead ]
  22. I don't believe CMBB is intended to be launched from the CD. The desktop shortcut is pointed at the complete installation on your hard drive, I don't know if the CD is configured to actually play the game. The CD must be in your computer to play but is not referenced by the game during execution.
  23. Try downloading one of these: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/mac/14532 There are several different products that do the same thing, you may need to try a couple to get the one you like. Version Tracker is a great resource for finding that software widget that helps. There are several other sites like it, I will add them later, but in any case a good thing to bookmark.
  24. Try downloading one of these: For Mac http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/mac/14532 Or for MSW http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/windows/25546 I haven't used the MSW product so you may want to choose a different one. [ December 12, 2002, 06:58 AM: Message edited by: kmead ]
  25. You might download a speed download application, these seem to like dealing with BFC's servers better than does MS Explorer. You can usually download a limited free copy off the web.
