  1. Clay Pigeons of St Lo by LTC Glover S. Johns battalion commander of 1/115th Inf in Normandy. Good for the CMBN level. Just a great read... http://www.amazon.com/The-Clay-Pigeons-St-L%C3%B4/dp/0811726045/ref=tmm_pap_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1386044737&sr=1-1

  3. Better to focus on getting the pixeltruppen AI to act more natural hence less commands needed. E.G. crossing an open area..spread out, 5m between each man if possible.
  4. Obviously any race car driver knows that's it easier to take corners at high speed around a naturally curved corner vs an angled corner. This facilitates rushing to that objective and capturing it in the last minute with the commander's jeep. Los
  5. Howdy Wedepm, The multi-player comes up regularly in various discussions though nothing concrete re if it will ever happen. Los
  6. Howdy all, I just made a decent map of Suicide Creek in Cape Gloucester, inspired after the newest MMP operations ASL Campaign Game. However it appears that since MG came out this wonderful IJA mod doesn't work and its back to showing regular British and German troops rather than the IJA. I see that Longleftflank is on hiatus. I would like to, at least for me, update the mod to bring it into compatibility with 2.12 if possible. Is this a matter of appending "smod_" to selected uniform and model files in the mod? I have poked around, but is their a detailed lay out somewhere of what files structures changed in MG which I could use a a guide to bring this mod back into compatibility? Any guidance appreciated as I have not done much modding. Thanks! Los
  7. I guess I prefer a steady movement towards gameplay enhancements and new theaters and eras, over a graphical overhaul. I feel that the game looks good and the graphics do not detract in any way my immersion in the tactical situation. Certainly Aris' mods make things look even better. (Not that I wouldn't welcome continual graphics improvements.) If one wanted to improve the graphical presentation of the game, perhaps more, varied, and natural animations would be the way to go to bring the battlefield to life? Lets see those weapons teams carrying tripods, baseplates, ammo boxes, etc. Lets see variations in how riflemen carry weapons, walk, move run, scratch their ass etc. Lets see buddy aid start off with dragging guys to cover before working on them. Lets see the occasional Tank commander unbutton and look around. Los
  8. Jon, Please refrain from confusing forum members with humor....
  9. Stop evading the original poster's request!
  10. I too am sitting on a number of scenarios I should upload,e.g. I have two Bulge scenarios in testing (read: playing for fun) for the Bulge mod. I'll try and upload them...plus we have a major operation under way. Playing more CM than ever. Los
  11. All, I found another decent book about Tilly. It's called "Tilly-sur-Seulles 1944" by Stephane Jacquet (isbn10: 2840482606). It is a Hard Cover Large Format book, 415 pages. It is in both French and English, 100s of pictures (including then and now shots) and many maps. Large amounts of detail on the fighting, and first person accounts. On every page the French text is in the left column the English text in the right column. The big picture can be a little difficult to follow esp with the French & English, which end up not being quite in line with each other so a map on one page may be referring to English text on another page. However even with the many pictures it is not a picture book but a story of the battle. I feel this book has a lot more value to the CMBN scenario designer than Tout's book since it at least has lots of maps, and pictures. There is good detail of the terrain, both in ww2 pictures and in what various spots look like in modern times (not much has changed it seems). It has an extensive bibliography (Tout is not referenced). You can get it for 50-60 USD from amazon sellers. I feel this was well worth the money. 12. Man that would greatly simplify coop. I'd throw him a couple Hamiltons for that!
  13. We're going to start out with one battalion, plus much of a tank squadron moving from the Northeast corner Southwest towards St Pierre, not a long slog, but certainly the Germans will have something to say about it. No doubtt he entire bn wont attack, there will need to be some companies for the follow up assault. There's three 25lbr batteries , but only one in direct support, the other two only for the opening barrage. I'll pass along the commanders oporder when he issues it.
  14. We too are coming to grips with our coming campaign. I''m using the Upcoming GMT Operation Dauntless map as our campaign map and Broadsword's excellent Juvigny map for the battles. As a follow on to the first battles, though I had created a smaller map where I added a Tilly-sur-suelles in that unfinished area to the NW. We've got a non-CM playing Brigade commander lined up. Hopefully this will entice him to buy the game! I'm finishing up all the materials now. Hope to be ready to kick off the first moves by Monday.
  15. Col. Handgrenade: Check out how guys are using John Tiller's Panzer Campaigns as a campaign engine to drive Combat Mission Battles: http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=111645

  17. Its all good. I think many want to move their experience to the next level...having their battles being part of a larger campaign framework means that there is a tomorrow, a reason to act realistically with your pixeltruppen, the coop work being done by some adds a level of cooperation, planning with others, roleplaying, coordination and friction. There can be a lot more to this excellent game than moving units around to get just the right angle on something. Los
  18. Thanks! I'm not one that has to tinker over every detail of every pixeltruppen minute by minute and we've discussed that if nothing is going on we can let our various moves run on for a few turns under the auspices of one or another of us. We are thinking that in this battle we will approach it as being part of the same battalion. A non-player character (another friend) will act as the BC. (He won't actually be playing CMBN, though part of my evil plan is to entice him to buy it through this experience) I will produce operational graphics for us to use. He'll provide the company missions (under the framework of the bn mission) and his commander's intent and we will plan from there. We will share the fire support assets and he will dole them out based upon the plan, requests and his decisions. He will also control reinforcements and when they are released. My partner and I will communicate with each other via email messages passed through the CO. Radio messages will be subject to garbling (by him) or one of us can dispatch a runner with the attendant delays. If our command squads are collocated, we can pick up the phone and have a chat. Being all ex or current military we prefer our games to be chaotic and "frictiony". Last year my friend ran for a while a miniatures and Mapex/RPG campaign in Normandy as the Canadians. We used the maps form GMT Battle for Normandy, miniatures (I ain't been shot mum rules), and even Arma 2 Invasion 44 FPS to move the narrative along. This year was added Avalanche Press' Panzer Grenadier series games. Now we can continue the push towards Caen with Combat Mission! Los p.s. I have half a mind for us to fly the CAS in il2 1946 coop (we are all in an online campaign of that too), the success of which releases CAS assets.
  19. Guys, A short while back I bought a friend of mine CMBN/CW/MG etc: We're thinking of doing some sort of coop play, we have a tremendous amount of experience running various campaigns online over ten years with various PC, miniatures, role playing and board game systems to suit us. I see some guys like Wyntergreen are running 2v2 so why not 2v0. I thought the mechanics of file transfer would go like such: 1. Start with an acceptable scenario 2. Each of player commands a portion of the force 3. We could probably even get a non-player friend to command, looking at overall situation, give orders, parcel out arty and reserves etc 4. We produce decent operational planning graphics for the mission 5. How it actually works: -Player 1 plots moves for my forces, save file Turn-1A.bts put in a drop box -Player2 plots moves for my forces, you then hit execute and view the action: save file before moving to plotting phase. Turn-1b.bts put in a drop box. -Player1 views the action then go on to plot turn-2a.bts etc etc 6. That allows us both to move our forces and view action, we cant see enemy side. We can transmit SITREPs and requests to the commander.<-This is the part that fun, planning and decision making on what to do based on the situation. 7.This could all take place in the framework of a campaign. Am I missing something in the mechanics of this?
  20. Lets hear more about that 2v2 thing you're doing? Also If you have MarketGarden you have a nummber of large nicely done master maps. The repository has (do a search) HTH_large_bocage_rough_La_Nicollerie_map_only_no_AI xix_corps_center_4x4km_july44_no_ai_master Caen area - Juvigny to Fontenay - Map Only Large maps Los
  21. This is something on the right track, I see in the forum there's a sub section for a CMBN version, so that's a good sign. Maybe I'll help out since I just re installed CMBB on my notebook a few weeks ago.
