1. The language of the "thomas davie" and "Fionn" posts sound very similar, and I expect they were written by the same sychophant. [This message has been edited by Hundminen (edited 05-17-2000).]
2. I remember begging the store clerk to take it back -the only time I ever returned a game. I had a 486-66 with 4 MB RAM at the time which was middle of the road, and this machine definitely wasn't up to the task. Who knows, maybe a PIII/600 with 128MG RAM would have run it. I don't know. And I'll definitely not find out.
3. One of the coolest things I have noticed is the big arc trajectory of heavy-but-slow-moving shells from the 150. Take a look. Very cool.
4. I just gave it a 100, although it only has an 82.9 average. Who the hell gave it less than a 100? It is, by the way, now the highest rated demo on the site. [i wonder if it'll accept a vote of 110?...] [This message has been edited by Hundminen (edited 05-15-2000).]
5. Steve:
quote:
We think orders will be processed around the last day of this month, hopefully shipping out within a week after. Normally we only charge cards on the day before we ship, but we have too many preorders to do that

Just curious - how many pre-orders do you actually have? Can you say? If not, have your expectations been met? I am very impressed so far, and I hope you are well rewarded for your efforts.
6. ***SPOILER*** I noticed playing VOT as Yanks that the Panther reinforcement deployed on the road behind the hill, and proceeded to make his way, slowly and with many turns, through the tree tiles (woods - not scattered trees) on his right. So the next game, I ordered an M4 to head down the extreme right edge of the map, through 3 woods tiles. He refused, went right up to the first woods tile, then turned right around and went home. Is there any specific tactic to coax armour through the woods? If the AI's Panther could, why can't my M4? [This message has been edited by Hundminen (edited 05-14-2000).]
7. I have an ATI Rage 128 (Xpert) with latest 4.12.6269 driver, and have had absolutely no problems (runs fast in 1024 x 768). What is this Lightspeed driver your talking about?
8. One more stupid question re LOS: Is there any way to check LOS from a position that I currently do not occupy? For example, I am moving my Sherman to a position behind a house, with LOS to a wooden bunker I want to attack, but barely out of LOS of pillbox with AT gun which is adjacent to the first bunker. I want to be sure of LOS before moving there.
9. So then Company and Battalion HQ's are really like reserve platoon HQ's, adopting teams and squads with deceased platoon HQ's? Is there any reason/benefit to keep the non-platoon HQ up front in close contact to the platoon HQ's? [This message has been edited by Hundminen (edited 05-13-2000).]
10. Sorry if this has been discussed already, but what purpose do non-platoon HQ's serve? If they provide additional benefits to squads within C&C of their own platoon HQ's, then how do I know? There is no black or maroon C&C tentacles to units already in C&C. Also, is it possible to issue a target command to a unit not currently in LOS of the target, and also issue a move command, so when the unit reaches LOS of the target, it can begin firing at it during the same turn? I tried this a few times, but it doesn't seem to work. I remember seeing somewhere an ARTY command to adjust the target location, which I suppose would be really usefull if you are trying to keep smoke on a moving Panther, but I can't seem to find it anymore. Am I imagining things? Can't think of any more stupid questions right now, but I'm sure to have more later. Hundminen
11. Jeez, the poor bastard! The week the GD comes out! Maybe Steve or Charles should send him one of those 174+ page manuals, if they're in print yet (assuming he pre-ordered). That might keep him happy until he gets back in the saddle again.
12. So to solve this problem with overloading the server, why not e-mail a password to all PRE-ORDERED customers, who are the only ones who can download the demo for the first day or two? Just a thought. (ok, ok, so were all getting punch-drunk about now ).
13. Although SPR is possibly my favourite movie of all time, I agree with John Wayne that the Krauts should not have been misrepresented as bumbling canon fodder in the final battle scene. I think the movie would have made a much bigger impact if the Jerries had been accurately represented demonstrating superior skill, experience, weaponry, and (in some cases) intestinal fortitude. The audience might have then got the true flavour of the terror and challenge the average GI faced. The final battle scene was a discredit to the men involved, on both sides. 14. I have two things to say on this thread: 1) I have a job interview with Molson's next week (NYAH NYAH!) 2) I have been hoping all my life that the Americans and Canadians would merge their Federal systems, but alas, I'm afraid at age 37 I won't see it any time soon that would do me any good. Just my Canadian $0.03
15. Hundminen is german for dog-mine, the dreaded Russian dogs carrying a harness packed with high explosives specially trained to crawl under enemy tanks, thereby detonating the charge. The dogs were (unfortunately for the Russians) often unable to distinguish a MkIV from a T34 (d'oh!)
16. Perhaps the Cap'n realized he should be spending more time thinking about girls, smoking pot, having fun with cars, and whatever else 16 year-olds do these days. There's plenty of time for CM later. Cap'n, check back with this board in 10 years, Microsoft's CM10 will be released by then, and Steve and Charles will be happily retired and living in Miami.
17. Pre-ordered, and will not copy (of course). I reckon anybody really interested in playing CM is not the kind of schmuck that goes around pirating software, so I wouldn't worry too much. By the way, I'm surprised at the number here who have NOT pre-ordered. What gives? BTS: could you change the title of all those members posting here who have already pre-ordered CM from "Member" to "Cool Member"? Just my Canadian $0.03 [This message has been edited by Hundminen (edited 04-11-2000).]
18. KilloIndiaAlpha is right on. The vast majority of those who actually saw combat were in for a rude awakening. For the years and months leading up to action most troops/flyers/sailors were eager and excited about it. They never thought they would be killed. It always happened to somebody else. Then they saw their buddies getting killed. Still, they never thought they would be killed. Then they realized it didn't matter who won a particular battle, or who lived or died, the war would not end for a very long time. For most, there was no "tour of duty" period, after which they got to go home (if they beat the odds). Then they realized sooner or later their own number would be up, and they were inevitably destined to be seriously wounded or killed. Add to that the misery of their daily "living" conditions; disease, cold, hunger, etc.. You get the idea. It was no picnic. Of less than 1,000,000 American servicemen who saw "sustained" front line combat action, almost 300,000 died. Another 300,000 or so were wounded. Turnover in some divisions was well over 200% in less than a year! Now, having said all that, I always thought it would be cool to command a tank
19. From the perspective of a "Beer and Pretzels" wargamer: CM is easy to learn, difficult to master. PE is difficult to learn. PROS: Graphics are fabulous Runs very smoothly (PIII 500, ATI Rage, 128M RAM) Seems to have a lot of depth Physics look good No re-spawning CONS Difficult to learn Manual is crap Difficult to learn No tutorial - anywhere (I scoured on-line and there is nothing really good) Difficult to learn Die really quickly You get the idea. I reckon you need a lot of time to invest in this one, which you won't have after the end of May.
20. I apologize to all the History Academics out there. No offense. As an Engineer, I just couln't pass up the opportunity to take a shot. Hundminen
21. Hey Pudsterman: Was she a blonde too? Seems like there's an awful lot of that going around. I wonder how many history teachers or professors ended up in history due to the process of elimination, rather than genuine interest. Just my $.03 (Canadian)
22. [...hmmmm...wondering if i should back that last one up a couple of turns...let me see...]
23. I'm with Neutral Party on this: BTS, please provide a PRINTED manual, not an on-line one. I have all kinds of time to read a printed manual: 1) On the Crapper I hope I don't get a bad case of the 'roids with all the extra time I'll spend on the crapper with a good printed manual. 2) Bed-time Reading Hey...married with kids...'nuff said. 3) Business Trips On the plane, bed-time reading, on the crapper. 4) At the In-laws House On the crapper. Spiral-bound, 3-ring bound, colour, glossy? Who cares - as long as it's fat and full of lots of goodies. Hundminen (Off to the crapper)
24. Another 4) "Men" winning awards for best make-up
