  1. Is anybody aware of any big mutiplayer sites for CC4? I have never seen more than a handfull on the zone, and they are just match-making there. I mean the game is so damn cheap ($40 CDN - $25 US) I might give it a shot if I can find a decent multiplayer site. Hundminen
  2. I agree with LT CANADA 100%. What ruined CC3 for me was definitely the abundance of armour in battles. There was no skill involved in many of these battles. I miss the good old days playing CC2 on the zone before CC3 came out, and then so many of the good CC2 players moved onto CC3, and later quit CC altogether (like myself). Personally, I moved onto Rainbow Six (on the zone), a little mindless game, but an incredible adrenalin rush! I hope CM achieves the fine balance between infantry, AT, and armour that CC2 so often did (like rocks/paper/scissors). By the way, is CC4 being played anywhere multi-player? Hundminen
  3. I think the whole concept of PBEM ethics or etiquette is really a bit of a band-aid for faulty game design. The game should be programmed to minimize or eliminate these gamey tactics from working in the first place. Hopefully the final game release will do this. For instance, units out of communication should be controlled by AI only, and not by the player (to Not Here's point). You should not be able to issue commands to units that have no communication with a commander. Also, many units appear much too willing and eager to walk into direct enemy fire (including abandoned tank crews, and other units ill-prepared). That kind of behavior was extremely rare, except when substantial covering fire (suppression) was offered. From my limited knowledge of the western European theatre of operations, most soldiers acted much more cautiously than what I have seen so far. I have not seen very much in the way of surrendering either (the Germans were surrendering on a massive scale - to the western allies - as the western front advanced eastwards). In my opinion, I think a little more reality-balancing in these areas could make this game not just good, but great. [This message has been edited by Hundminen (edited 12-12-99).]
  4. Probably the most realistic ww2 book i've read is "Roll me Over" by Gannter which is the memoirs of a GI from Battle of Bulge to VE day. The book actually makes you not like the war (so not for everyone in this forum). Also entertaining (but I suspect a little BS) is "The Audie Murphy Story" which follows the exploits of Murphy from Italy, through Anvil route to VE. For fellow Canucks, you can't go wrong with Blackburn's Guns of Victory, which follows an artillery forward observation officer through France to Holland border. There is a sequel and prequel, but haven't got to those yet.
  5. ...actually, that all depended on who was carrying the beef jerky in their kit bag.
  6. Ok, I think I'm ready to play PBEM. Veteran wargamer (CC2, CC3, TOAW, EF/WF), but a little green on this one. By the way, Hundminen means "dog mine", but don't worry, they were only used by the Russians against the Germans. Hundminen chrisd0@home.com (the 0 is a zero).
  7. AMD / 3dfx Users: Go to 3dfxgamers.com and go to FAQ section. They link there a utility that will enable write allocate on your BIOS. It's call setk6 or something. Anyway, you have to run it out of your windows DOS box (not autoexec), contrary to instructions supplied. Finally figured this, and haven't had a freeze-up since! Post a reply if you need more info. 8. Lt Bull: I have same hardware as you (K6/2-350, 128Ram), except Voodoo3, and I get lock-ups randomly (average=1 per turn), with-out the PBEM game. Are you also locking up against AI? Just curious - please let me know. Thx. Hundminen
  9. Okay, It's been about a week now that I've been trying to get this darn game to work, without any luck. I get to play just enough to make 1 turn before it freezes up on me (not black screen). Sometimes it freezes while scrolling, sometimes while still, sometimes when pressing GO, although never during 60 second playback. It's driving me crazy. I have tried different resolutions and colors, I updated 3dfx drivers and direct x (7.0). I even played with BIOS settings (!!!) I can run any other 3d games no problem (Half Life, Rogue Spear, European Air War), but not this. Does anybody have any suggestions??? I have: amd 350 k6/2 128M ram voodoo3 2000 (with updated drivers) direct x 7.0 Award motherboard win 98
  10. Actually, I have narrowed this crash problem down to usually (but not always) ocurring whenever I hit the "GO" button. Sometimes it works, sometimes my screen freezes. I dunno if that is related to graphics??? Pleeeeze somebody help me!!! [...sigh...I guess it's back to the cciv demo]
  11. Thanks for the info, but can you tell me if there is anything i should do to minimize the lock-ups in the mean time? For instance, 256 colour, lower resolution, disable or reduce acceleration? Anything?
  12. I am all hyped about this game, but can't seem to get through the first turn before my game locks up and i have to ctl-alt-del or boot the computer. (waaaaahhh!). Anybody got any suggestions? I have: amd 350 k6/2 128M ram voodoo3 2000 direct x 7.0 win 98
