  1. Haha. Very good. I'll confess it took me a while to work out what was going on there. But I got it in the end... and in the front.
  2. LINKY For those lazy of searching. Never seen it in oz, looks like it's from the UK? Pretty damn funny. He doesn't play it quite right though.
  3. The reason people who make the most money win, is because more people give more money to someone they think will win. It's not like the money comes in if you aren't popular anyway.
  4. All you have to do is use the main url to escape the frames, just like the old forum, which used to have the giant header at the top unless you linked directly to the forum url. Bookmark http://www.battlefront.com/community/ This has actually been mentioned a dozen times on the forum since it opened.
  5. I had that card, and it is pretty low end for the game. This is a known issue. The solution is to turn shadows off.
  6. You can also use the little arrow icons at the top of screen.
  7. Cool, I like a good mystery. However I strongly suspect that it's a fish of some sort.
  8. Yes, it is long planned. As far as has been stated by BFC, the next release after the upcoming CMSF marines module will be a WW2 normandy game. I can't imagine it being along any time soon though, I guess at least a year from now, but that is pure speculation, maybe getting CMSF engine patched up to the desired standard will make the WW2 game quick a lot quicker. But imagine what they have to add: Weather, European terrain and flavour objects (99% new art), WATER, bridges, models and animations for on map artillery pieces, mortars, proper fortifications, and all the coding and TacAI that goes along with these things.
  9. __Tossers. We should select a "protest character" that gets used to make up the requisite 10 characters. I vote for something subversive like the # key! You know about hash, the symbol of the illuminati?
  10. I can't resist this one, which hopefully you will appreciate:
  11. Possibly not exactly what you are after as far as combat mechanics, but the new Empires of Steel game announced by BFC seems to be somewhere along the lines of what you want. One to keep an eye on anyway. Actually I'll add that to my "games you are waiting for" list. I always liked Hearts of Iron and Strategic Command, but found one too complex and one too simple (guess which ) Something right in the middle sounds great.
  12. Spore is the only game I'm waiting on, but to be honest I am expecting it to be a bit of a let down so it won't be a pre-order. I've only just got a PC that can handle anything resembling a modern game, so it's nice to be able to anticipate a new release! However there are plenty of great games in the bargain bin that I have still got to work through. I've bought Oblivion I'll probably revisit Far Cry. Any other game recommendations from the last 3 or 4 years? Any style.
  13. TEST: http://www.battlefront.com title
  14. I agree up to a certain point, 30 mins seems a lot more reasonable, but like Elmar says, it's not like this was ever a big deal on the old forum. I will also vote for a 3 character search string, try searching HMG or LOS it is impossible. And as for the minimum 10 character posts, whatever will Elvis do? The url tags do automatically come up with the url and title in the code except the default "title" is the url, you just have to manually edit the bit in the "" marks instead of a second dialogue box popping up. edit: Actually ignore that it doesn't work Use: (url=http://www.battlefront.com]Battlefront[/url)
  15. Hi John K. That is indeed a fairly respectable post and topic. With the old GF gone, you can start with a clean record. I heard petrol engines ARE much more effiecient today, but along with that, they are now expected to drive a lot more weight in a car that is now packed with all sorts of gizmos. So MPG is similar to what it was in 1950. About your book that is supposedly missing, I would be surprised if it was really missing, and I would be surprised if it wasn't collecting dust in a number of university engineering libraries around the world. The example cited was a artificial flat airfield course of 10 miles, with a modified car. Not really revolutionary, and little real world application. WBS? already posted here about how driving technique can reduce your fuel consumption by 25%. I work in the oil industry, and although you could argue that the spot price of crude is subject to speculation and that car-makers are bound to their traditional assembly lines, you can't really argue a massive conspiracy to prevent Americans driving their Hummers at 200-300mpg.
  16. Got a new card during the forum hiatus, an Albatron nVidia 9600GT with 512mb memory. Great card, the first time I have ever had anything approaching high end graphics, I've been playing oblivion with max everything and it is a real pleasure. It's a mid range card that I believe uses the same GPU as the 8800 series with a few features cut back to meet a price point. But performance is up there with the more expensive cards in the reviews I read, and although I don't have much to compare it to, I've seen nothing but smooth action with it. And I gotta say WOW! shock force looks amazing! I have everything on full and performance is flawless. I can certainly recommend this GPU for the game. The rest of my system is not cutting edge by any means. For the sake of completeness this is my rig: XP Home 2gb 800mhz RAM Intel E2140 Dual Core The aforementioned Graphics Card.
  17. Sometimes people should change their post after the fact. I would vote for an increase to the edit time into the region of a couple of hours rather than five minutes. I often get a bit distracted doing something else and then notice my post makes absolutely no sense and is spelled atroshusley.
  18. The icons for read/unread/new topic etc. seem to be needlessly busy and un-iconlike. Any option to change them to a more minimalist and less cartoon illustration version. Cool that we can choose the classic colour scheme! How about classic ubb smilies? Any expanded smilie options possible? The angry smilie is part of forum history , and to me Steve will always look a bit like this: . How can we adjust to these changes without flipping out and whatnot.
  19. Looks great to me, no harder to see than these very forums.
  20. Actually, although I was responding to a comment about area fire, I kinda meant ALL friendly small arms could cause casualties. No extra commands, just get it and deal with it as is. The biggest problem would be intra squad fire, as such the assault command would be rendered useless (or suicidal). Maybe you could make a squad immune to its own fire unless split? AI would simply be exempt because it is too hard to program around it, and not smart enough to take advantage of an exemption.
  21. I'd be fully in support of adding that as a difficulty option. In the situation Steve describes above, it will be the PLAYER's responsibility to ensure team A doesn't get between team B and the tank. If they do they might get clobbered. It will create a very different, but much more realistic playing style.
  22. I believe the answer to your question based on what I have read is that at some time in the future there is a reasonable likelihood that BFC will take the temperate european terrain from the WW2 game and wedge all the modern stuff from CMSF into it (including water). However, this would be a Game title not a module. So I'd say no, water is unlikely to be patched back into CMSF or included as part of a module.
