  1. And people accuse these guys of conspiring to do X or Y grand conspiracy.
  2. Judging by how things went last time, I'd guess the forms it comes it will be pretty much restricted to BF.com online purchse only.
  3. Perhaps... Hunter could set up a donation page where fans could donate for him to spend the time to document the source code properly, and conpensate him for his toils. I see a lot of goodwill here to the effect that people are willing to chip in a few dollars just for the effort that has already gone in, and in the hope that something will some day come out. So how about it hunter?
  4. A believe what you would call a dugout is more along the lines of a log bunker, but really half covered trench and half foxhole. What about these sorts of works? Is the "vehicle" mechanism for half buried foxholes and trenches and log bunkers workable as mentioned a few pages back?
  5. That had crossed my mind too. Hence I think its an excellent idea . If you have a open top box that is recessed underground, and troops crew it like any other vehicle, and the penetration of weapons is calculated on the small portion that sits above ground, that seems an ideal way to use the spotting system that is already in the game. If the troops happen to clip the ground mesh, or the end result looks a little like the CMx1 decal I think that is a small price to pay for a working game system. Maybe the bit of ground that clips the "vehicle" could not be rendered? That would make it easier to have different types of trenches too, like variations of top covered trenches, log bunkers, open trenches, one and two man foxholes depending on "crew" capacity.
  6. For an Aussie slant I'd suggest Curtin too. The negotiations between Australia Britain and the US are a pretty interesting story. Curtin by all accounts worried himself to death.
  7. Yep I played that Hornets Nest scenario the other day and popping the tank commanders head over the ridge would draw instant fire from 10 T-34s. No Borg Spotting would make a huge huge difference for stuff like this. We can also do cool stuff like dismounting vehicle crews to scout.
  8. Yeah I just did that in Company of Heroes so I know its true.
  9. It seems like it was all the very worst of conditions and things started moving way too fast. Very dry, very hot (48C), literally gale force winds the fires were moving at 60km/h. Not to mention the forests here have basically evolved to be highly flammable. Some people dying is bad, like any big disaster its a bit of an abstract concept unless you are there. What really bothers me is what a hellish way to go it must have been. Visibility down to zero and trying to flee for your life, finding a tree across the road, fire on all sides.
  10. Erm, I flunked "what year is it?". Though my join date had to be updated by moon after the forum reset, so I might have just made it up.
  11. The last thread is buried somewhere in the CMSF forum. Ahh the days when people went on with such spectacular amounts of garbage that they got their own thread. *sniff*
  12. It looks like I have been here almost exactly half that time. Combat Mission and this forum have allowed me to procrastinate my way through the prime of my life, and for that I'm thankful... or something.
  13. I've cheated my way to number 35, but god these are insane. I could sit there and think about them for hours on end and come up with an answer but I really have better things to do with my time.
  14. Yes you absolutely should buy them. As the "how does CMSF compare" thread will tell you, the original games will always be better in many ways and are certainly always going to have a very different feel to CMSF. Or just download the demos for all three games and see for yourself.
  15. The stance of the soldiers actually does make a very big practical difference, as the LOS line is traced from higher or lower depending on if one of them is kneeling. It also makes a difference in exposure to incoming fire. So the problem comes in when soldiers are prone and cannot see what to fire at, it is hard to grant them LOS so they can pop up and shoot. I'm sure this will continue to be improved in the game. Or I hope so.
  16. I know Kwazydog has already commented, but I'm led to believe that Syria was chosen because it was the most plausible opponent for a near future conflict taking into account events in Iraq. Even so it is only vaguely plausible, but yeah. I think the 2006 conflict in Lebanon was also a deciding factor for how this sort of combat could be interesting. The US would have to be pretty desparate to launch a ground invasion of Iran. Not really an option I reckon.
  17. The way Dubai is going they should leave it unfinished, Death Star style, as a monument to the bubble funded excess of the last 10 years.
  18. The best way is to surf the more nefarious corners of the web and click on as many of those "clean up your computer now!" popup links as you can find. Be sure to click "ok" if it asks if you want to install anything. Actually don't do that, or if you have been doing that, stop now.
  19. It's my understanding that some US states are "recourse" and some are "non-recourse" being that the lender cannot persue you for the money owed after the house is repossed. I think they still CAN come after you for the balance, it is just hard to do it, so often these people can just walk away. There may also be a tax bill from the "gain" of being forgiven a large amount of the debt.
  20. The AI is scripted by the scenario designer, and sometimes they assume that the player will be playing Blue and neglect the Blue AI plans. So you are right, the AI in a strategic sense is non-existant, it follows the script that is laid out for it.
  21. I always find it a little baffling that global warming and "climate change" is predicted to make every single place on earth worse! Surely odds are that some formerly miserable places will become quite nice, along with all those formerly nice places becoming miserable?
  22. Thank you kind sir. Here is the post Kettler is talking about with his old links. No combination of numbers in the "showthread" bit on the new forum gave me anything like the right thing.
  23. Hi Redwolf, I tried a few combinations of that and it IS too difficult. Care to provide a bit of a "how to"?
  24. Gpig is right, if even one man is kneeling there will be a higher LOS trace than if they are all prone. So Guinessman, do you have a save or a screenshot of this situation?
