  1. Tom (if that is your real name)I see you are junior member so you may not have seen too many of Pengs posts (or some others of us) that poke playful fun at each other. I would bet (stop me I'm wrong SS) that SS read that and had a very hardy laugh . That was maybe the best Peng post ever. I'm still laughing. "But essentially you are sour and spoiled and not fit for human consumption, except in the most dire of circumstances." he he he he...come on that's good stuff. But to give you an idea of what you're dealing with here, I went to the Phillies game last Sunday with Peng, his wife and three daughters. The three toddlers each have more maturity then Peng and I combined (and I stiil can't believe we are close to 40). ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  2. Scott- The way I always understood it, if your unit retreats off the map board they get to fight another day and if they are captured they go off to some Stalag #something and get to eat dinner with Col. Klink and make fun of Sgt. Shultz and make the non-coms dig tunnels. As far as the morale issue would go with retreating units they would effect your global morale when they exit the map board. FooFoo- Maybe this would work with a delaying action: LONG map (instead of wide map or square map) with VL all at one end and units set up areas spread out far enough from each other so that it would be impractical to have them meet up somewhere on the map to create a larger force. Global morale would only become a factor once the enemy has gotten DEEP into the area you are protecting or if you do something very silly like try to have them meet up somewhere and they take a pounding doing so. ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  3. I think you may be close to getting the point SS. How many times on this board have we read this: "With Combat Mission you will have to relearn the way you play wars games." ie..one tank left does not always mean the fight is still worth fighting. ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  4. With any luck this will be my last post to this thread. Although I gave you kudos for a neat looking Hellcat move I in no way implied that what you did made it worth the game continuing. It would have annoyed me if you had been doing that to me and keeping a lost effort going...heck it may have annoyed YOU if someone was doing that weenie stuff to you. As far as ladder games go I have 2 quick comments that may help you understand what other people have been saying. 1) As I said before I haven't played any ladders before but I would think the idea is to accuratley display either someones ability or status compared to others on the board. Running around to squeak out a couple more points to increase you ladder score seems to not honorably reflect the level of your defeat. When beaten so bad that the AI calls it quits for you the honorable thing would be to grant your opponant his just due. 2) Check me if I'm wrong but if you had been able to run around for a while and kill some more Germans before your Hellcat was blowed up and ended with a global morale of 3% instead and your opponants morale had gone down in the same proportion as yours would it not have effected your ladder score the same as when the AI would have killed the game? OK maybe they weren't quick points. ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  5. I have just seen the last turn of the file for the game we are talking about here. I agree with the AI that the game was over and that very little, if anything, could be gained by continuing. Having said that I gotta hand it to you SS. That Hellcat move was something to watch. I am NOT being facetious here. I mean it. I was watching the movie and said "holy cow..that took some balls" especially against a Tiger. Please do not think I am being sarcastic because I'm not. With your and Ron permission I would like to have it sent to MadMatt. Again I am NOT busting your stones this time SS..it was sweet. ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  6. Matt, The POD looks great on my browser. PS. the site seems to be loading faster these days.
  7. OK I have to speak up again. I have never played a ladder before (I have noticed SS is not even on the CM ladder) so I may be the one who is naive. But isn't the spirit of a ladder to determine who wins games more often than others so you can have braggings rights and also select people to play against that might be the same skill level as you are? If you are down to 13% morale I don't care what you have left you are beat and you are beat bad. You have no reason to continue the battle as you are only wasting your time and your opponants time. 25%...30%...different story but 13% you are for all intents and purposes dead already. That has been my experience with CM. I have had the decency to surrender long before it came to playing that noise out. Sorry doginchina but if you haven't played CM yet you have no idea how beat up your troops are if you get the global morale that low. ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  8. Oh yeah I was taking a shot at you with my 1st post ....just teasin ya man. I couldn't resit. ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  9. "I was on turn 13 IIRC that gave me alot of time with HE to even the score." If that was all you had left against me you wouldn't even see my infantry to "even the score" They would protect themselves in postions where they could not be seen to be on the recieving end of HE (since it said you had no infantry on that side of the river) and if you did cross the river with your Hellcat to come after my infantry you would expose yourself to fausts and schrecks most likey losing your Hellcat. All it would take would be to rush 3 healthy squads at the Hellcat after it crosses the river. It can only shoot in one direction at a time. Someone will put a cap in your Hellcats ass with a faust even if the beta is not as willing to shoot them as I have heard. Then it's mop up infantry time. Dude, it sounds like you were in no shape to continue the battle. As far as I understand ladder scoring if the game ended when it did and the score was say...75-150..but you were able to play on and it ended 25-100 because you burned your last few units to hurt your opponant your score on the ladder would be pretty much the same. ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  10. I would fully expect to have the AI surrender for me if at turn 13 of a 30 turn game I was down to 13% morale. If I found myself in that sorry of shape that early in a game I imagine I would surender before the computer did. "In the game in question with SS, the US forces had one squad, four crews, and one HQ for a total of 25 effective men, all located on the US hill, plus a roaming Hellcat. The US had suffered 220 casualties. The Germans had the majority of their infantry and support intact and 3 HT's, suffering 26 casualties. The US had no hope of capturing an objective except by parking the Hellcat near one on the last turn to dispute it. Really,as the US commander what do you think you would do or want the game to do? " Was that the condition of both sides at game end? Sounds like you got lucky Ron. ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  11. "For Ladder play there will have to be some kind of time constraint options, otherwise people will just take forever and a day when losing" or getting whining about why they their ass kicked. ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  12. netscape "smart download". If you get bumped off line smart download will pick up where you left off ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  13. Well, I could understand one turn a day for a ladder game, but playing for fun..? "I mean I take my game seriously, but C'mon, if you played on a friday night, saturday night and sunday, you should be able to complete a full game. I can't understand how it would take all day to plot one friggin' move, when your playing for fun. That is the point of the game...right, fun?" One other way that hasn't been mentioned here is using AOL instant messenger or ICQ to transfer files instead of using regular email (AIM is much faster the ICQ by the way). With these I have been about to play many turns in one sitting and can play a game out over a weekend. When TCP/IP is out I fully expect to play an entire game in a few hours. As others folks have said it is not the time it takes to play a turn it's the sitting and waiting while you email it out then wait to get it back ect....and hope that you get a hammerhead opponant like Berli to make your life easier. ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  14. Don't get me started on the PBEM system again...but to answer your question...if each player sends 1 to 2 emails per day expect a 30 turn game to take 3 weeks to a month ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  15. Two words......Barry Manilow......hee hee just kidding.....boy I crack myself up sometimes. I am a hot steaming pile of wit. ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  16. I think Compassion is right Lizardboy. I use MANY different computers with no problem. Just when you click on "reply to post" or "post new topic" I have to type in my user name a password..I don't have to reregister. ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  17. Although I like to play the Presley angle it is really for Elvis Costello (my last name is Costello). Major Tom, I almost used a Bowie reference as he has equal status in my mind. Bauhaus, they did a killer version of Ziggy Stardust and the opening scene of "The Hunger" was incredible use of "Bella Lagosis Dead". ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  18. Yo Capt....did I miss something here? Where you going dude? If you're serious than I will miss ya being around Little Trooper. (Elvis misting up) ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  19. "CM2:To Moscow and back (almost)" or "CM2:How I got bitch slapped by the Reds on my winter vacation" ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  20. I would like a nice lawssuite at the 4 seasons please
  21. Jeese....ya walk away from the computer to grab a bite to eat and all hells breaks loose. I still have an hour of download time left. Oh well I guess I'll grab a bite to eat. DUH!!!!I already did..now what? ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  22. Mike-I agree with you 100%. Steve shouldn't waste a second on this if it delays the game for even a second. And Mark....it will go Gold when it is done (I have always wanted to say that) ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  23. Don't mock me folks. But last night I was having ISP problems (as you may have noticed Peter). So I dug out Starfleet Command at about 11pm ....turned it off at 4am. I was very wrapped up in a campain. ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  24. Yeah I too have been spending the day going through past questions. PeterNZ has sent an outline of things to cover and once we have gotten through all of Capt Maneris questions I figure we can move on to others. What I think should happen is they should be be funneled through Steve, Charles, Matt and Fionn for cleansing. But I want the list of FAQs to be so clean that Steve ,Charles, Matt and Fionn have to do very little changeing and spend alomost no time correcting. ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
  25. I'd be willing to pitch in too (I'll email PeterNZ). But what I think would work best for BTS would be if this was an official FAQ on the Battlefront web site (no offense Matt and Fionn) because it should be thought of as coming right from the horses mouth (sorry Steve) and be available at they same place someone went to to order the game. What I would like is if Peter,Guachi and myself or whoever put the list together and had Steve or anyone else that had real knowledge look over what questions were used and how they were answered. This way no one whos time is already taxed would be bogged down (sorry SS) with the bulk of the work. ------------------ "Tryin to be so so bad is bad enough, don't make me laugh by talkin tough" EC
