  1. Hey dittohead...why don't just call Rush and complain...LOL
  2. Not in South Orange County....sniff, sniff...but the cable guy came and hooked up a zillion digital TV channels...somehow just not the same...like getting underwear for Xmas....
  3. I expect that the editor will allow one to choose from conscripts to elite forces...six levels, right. I also assume that in selecting troops for a battle generated game the same choices will be there. Should solve troop quality issues nicely.
  4. Denby: That makes you older than me...didn't start until Novemeber. Certainly hope your giving PBEM a try...I have had just a ton of fun and learned much from the guys I played.
  5. I would expect you will find them to act ,dress, and be equiped the same as the US. Free french troops were rearmed and retrained by the US. The story of the rearmerment is actually very interesting and with a great deal of political reprecussions lasting to the present day. I'll bet you'll find Polish troops to look and act like the British troops for the same reasons. If that is so it will because it is historically correct. Welcome to the board
  6. Dr: She's a Keeper! and you, sir. are a very lucky man.
  7. I understand that a "battle generator" will be included. The Game will produce a map based on the date/time you give it. Each player will choose it's own units. So it will be double blind. I am looking forward to this part of the game as much or maybe more than than the editor. It's begining to feel a lot like Christmas...!
  8. Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You, Ask What you Can Do For Your Country. JFK
  9. Like many an old timer the watching and waiting as been incorporated into my life. Now a page is turned and a new chapter in wargaming has arrived. H G Wells would be proud of BTS. I sure am. Mark Ezra Trabuco Canyon, Ca
  10. OB@G/Maximus is Completely incorrect. There has been no selling of anything. Matrix is a group of gamers who have been given the the SP code by SSI. They are allowed to alter it as the see fit but may not sell or in any way profit from it. The SPWAW free download is the result of SSI's generousity and the gamer's of Matrix who worked so hard to improve a fun, old game.
  11. I undrstand that SPWAW will be available on CD for the purchase of a gaming Mag in July.
  12. It's an excellent point. You know what really gets to me about the post is the time Von Shrad spent getting the guy squared away...and the fellow never gives a nod of thanks. If been lucky. The Beta demo was my first game ever against a human, PBEM or otherwise. Talk about a wargame wallflower I was it. The guys I played early on were great and patient. from those games developed some intersting conversations and Email friendships. I play to win but I've learned more about the game by a loss most often. As far as surrender... If I think I'm doomed I give a heads up to my OPFOR. If he has a need to continue so be it. The game should be fun, the Email should be fun or at least comfortable to deal with. If it isn't finish the game and pass on a replay. If it's soooo bad send an Email and end it...don't let the other guy hang. To all my past present and future PBEM partners I say thanks. And to those of you who have yet to play this game PBEM...jump in friend, the water's fine!
  13. Actually, yes...my wife has asked me the same question as have most of my family. My response to her was just the same...tactical chess on a much more difficult plain. However there really is something more to it, isn't there. I've given up trying to explain myself to those I love. I do this for a miriad of reasons that stretch from the deep and philsophical to just plain butt kickin' fun. I laughed the other day as we were paying the stable/vet/feed bills for her big, beautiful mare..."Honey", I said..."I've got a pretty big hit coming up for my hobby this month, myself...BTS is finally gonna bill me $50 for CM".....LOL
  14. A common thought of troops of all nations is that their training, no matter how good, didn't prepare them for the real thing. If that is the case how could any game come close to ACTUAL combat? That being said, CM is by far the best tactical simulation ever created. The 3-D enviroment, the intense effort to accurately simulate weapons effects, and the complete desire of BTS to get it right even if it becomes a programers worst nightmare (thanks Charles!), allows a wargamer to get closer to "what it must have been like".
  15. I was enjoying SP on my old 486 until I heard about CM on the SP Forum. I read about Steve and Charles had to say about their Company and the CM Game. That weekend I bought a P3/500 so I could play the CM Demo. I consider that the best money I spent since my wifes wedding ring. Today I have SPWAW and CM on my hard drive. It's funny, the two games never bicker at one another. I never hear my CM Demo crow about 3D immerson to my poor hex based SPWAW. And SP doesn't brag about all the countries, years, units that CM will never have. They are there for my pleasure and to satisfy my Wargaming thirst. Should I love one more? Can I be swept away by the new wave in wargaming and still enjoy a great old game so beautifully restored? When I speak to what CM offers to my fellow SP gamers it is in hopes that I can share with them the Promise CM holds. I hope that gamers will at least look into CM. I don't think me throwing stones helps get the message out, ever.
  16. Gotta go with Max and others...This is not a good thing. Some royal pains make for excellent reading, some don't. Forum administration sets the rules and can handle the problems. Threats of "visits" is poor judgement no matter how "right" you are.
  17. Great point, Scott. The game resolution is excellent. What is better to me than talking CM is playing PBEM. If you haven't tried it against a human you're missing a real treat. I had never played any wargame against a Human OPFOR. When the CM Beta version came out I decided to try...After all, the game was new to everybody! Man what great fun...Started up some fine friendships with guys who share my interest, won a few and lost a few intense, fun, and with my knack for tactics...laughable games. So If you are like I was...get that cherry popped and join the real fun!
  18. Thank you for bringing this to my attention A vote of 100 seemed right to me
  19. Here's an important tip: Wash the plastic before you paint...Plastic stamping leaves a fine dust on the plastic. By washing with a bit of dish soap and a good rinse you will get a clean surface. A small detail, yes.. but it will pay off.
  20. Steve has hit the nail on the head. SpWaW is designed to be a better SP. If you're not a big fan of SP you may not understand what the fuss is all about. If you are a fan of SP you know your in hog heaven. The kind of long term attraction, interest, and loyalty generated around SP is hard to come by. CM is new and offers the promise of a deeper immersion into tactics, combat resolution, and terrain. I fully expect CM to blaze a new and exciting trail for all of us who love to wargame.
  21. 30 megs is a drop in the bucket...6 minutes was about right. BTS you've done a great job I've looked at the CE....Valley I'm playing US x 3 PBEM's...thank God for a new scen. Graphics, colors are great. I really like the sounds....birds singing!!. Different color hair on the Germans is a nice touch. I'm sure there's lots more to discover. Wanted to express my thanks.
