  1. I'm unfamilar with ICQ would someone please flesh out what/how of this game play tool. Thanks
  2. You might want to search the web for tanks/armor/WW2. There are many great sites dedicated to Afv's. Won't cost you a dime. Cheap in Trabuco Canyon!
  3. For Historical map designers a very needed tool as would be lables for towns, rivers, hills and other features.
  4. Like many other Wargamers I focus on the "Last Good War", WW2. I've play a fair amount of SP2 (1950-1999). It's not that I didn't enjoy it...but the range of modern weapons means you must have a huge map (smaller icons?) to accurately demonstrate a modern battle field. I'm sure some one will do it. But I think it will be more of an arcade game than the designers would every even dream about. Nite vision/ infrared Attack Helo's with pop vision and TOW's. Everybody will see everything. I know many out there will want to include modern weapons/conflicts. I hope that BST will resist the pressure and stick out a complete timeline of WW2. After all MORE weapons and tactics were develope in the short time period of '39-'45 than before or since. Show me a Matilda, Lee, or Pz1 before an M1 Abrhams any day.
  5. Thank you, thank you, thank you...Now I know what all the winking was about during that great chat session tonight.
  6. I am in PST new to PBEM interest is military history with a focus on combat men more than combat machines. Like to win but have more interest in tactics. Work from home so usally around
  7. Wild Bill! How nice to see you here. I had just run across a post of yours re: the CM editor that made even more excited CM.
  8. My maybe vote is still maybe. I don't know the trur ability of the scen editor. For small unit action that is correct historically, Infantry weapons, ammo suppy, radio contact, ect will influence the quality of my end product. My pure hope is that the scen editor will be helpful in dealing with that issue. RoF...Arm Thickness and the like will always be argued (and reargued) till the cows come home. That Good, clear numbers are applied (as they most certainly seem to be w/CM) Ild say leave them alone. Since the engine doesn't allow for that kind of change, there is no reason to hack at it. But to wish to provide specific weapons or lack of weapons to a unit, control the amount of ammo, ect is not an unreasonable thing. Again I have no idea what the editor can do. If there is no ability to affect these changes AND a simple Mobeditor can be made available that allows for the integerity of the game to remain undeminished. What would be the problem?
  9. JonS statement..."Good Lord! Something useful to come out of SP...? I confess to be mystified at What it is you could mean. Would you mind explaining... A Dumb SPer
  10. Well I see I've neglectated to mention the infantry dismounting from APC and moving carefully to flank the roads, get a view of the little down turn dog-leg turn. Keep in mind that the milling of forces takes what 2 min--3 min. Doesn't seem to be a terrible waste of time. Frankley if you are thinking about an ambush around the next bend what better mode to use than a careful combined arms approach from two or more postions (such as the road and the woods. That's what I've seen the AI do...again not bad, me thinks. To put a point on this... The AI does a darn good job of acting like a military organization. So many games I've played (and enjoyed for that matter) can offer only an AI triggered by victory hexes, attacking in odd clumps of hardware (fastes and nearest come first) This IS NOT what happens in CM.
  11. Hi Jeff: Just MHO: the AI is responsive to the sits rep and responds. When The Us is not Hidden but open up w/ everything its got (not necessarily a bad thing) the tiger will stay up where is weapon can be laid on more targets. Hide the US Including MG and mortar and sooner or later the germans will come with its armor up fron... a sound strategy in an unknown situation. Seems clear to me that the AI is thinking rather than just heading for the victory Hex! Not bad, says I
  12. Way cool.. Had it happen to my sherman on the east side of Reisberg. Really got to watch those scattered trees! Well at least I'm pointing in the right direction. Now if only my crew can unditch the beast I could move up just a tad and take on that 88 that otherwise can't see me. LOL
  13. We should all pay some attention to Scoops commments re: leaving is TD's on the Hill. There have been so many commments about the TD being too good, ect. Here's three gone to the bone yard. Why? AI tactics held the tiger in reserve at the top of their hill. Not bad! The game plays differntly much more often than any game I've encountered. To make assertions with two scen played over and over is just not a good idea. I keep thinking of the quote "contempt prior to investigation" I know I need to relax and wait for the game
  14. I vote Maybe! As a new game let's get out and running before we cry for Mobhack. But I really don't think it should be discounted out of hand (unless it's actually impossible). The best example I can give isthe Steel Panthers games. When Mobhacking became available it gave new live to the game. Many sets of MOB were made. If memory serve contest were played out with special MOB. And of course all the terrific work done by the SP Camo groups, Andy Gailey, Scott Grasse, and many more gave extra life to that fine game.
  15. I'm certainly NO Expert at the ins and outs of CM, But...There are hot keys avail that human can use to surrender. Does it follow that the AI has the same option? I know when I send my Reinforcements away I just hit withdraw and show a destination off the map...soon as they hit the map edge, Poof!...they're gone. Can't the AI rout off the board as well? I suspect and hope that this AI will fight smart and tough but also retreat/surrender when hopeless. I need to keep in mind a turn is only 1 min long
  16. Love the thinking here. Capt Foobar: Re: a game site. I'm pretty certain that has/is being established at the Gamers Net. Fionn has the Combat Misssion HQ site (where CM Demo Download can be found. Also the TGN Discussion boards have a Combat Mission Slot set up already. I've spent ALOT of time with steel Panthers in that area and think highly of the TGN staff.
  17. I say! Let's all play Simon Says! Simon says...Read a Book, Simon says be oh so bright and oh soo polished. Well Simon says...welcome to the great unwashed! LOL
  18. Sorry to hear of the loss of your Grandma. Lost a favorite Grandma some 2o years ago and my family still speaks of her often. She never gone from my heart.
  19. Boris: You bet! It was exactly what we all did with Steel Panthers...LOL I guess we just hate to lose.
  20. Thanks for qick repley, Steve. Actually the guys that re-did the steel panthers games...or was SSI, themselves, came up with that style of ending the carnage. Perhaps you or Fionn might chat w/ the Camo group at Wild Bill and the raiders.. they can surely explain the details far better than I.
  21. DjB: Well now if I can only get me wife to think I'm intelligent! LOL... You and I have no disagreement. I mean only to say that I fully expect to beat the AI in balanced scenario as these demos are. I can't see what all the fuss is about. It certainly seems to be a great/pro-active AI compared to any I've played (Steel Panthers (all, Panthers in Mist/Shadows, PG Ect.) I think you have the impression I was disapointed with the AI which is far from the case. Perhaps I should re read my post...or maybe it's one of those peskey flash backs from the 60's again! LOL
  22. Kinda a feel itchy , nose won't stop running keep seeing snakes and spiders... think I need a fix. Say man, I got this Great toaster here...How about you take it and give me a new scenario!
  23. Turn 28, just hang there Mark only two turns to go! Well that ain't much in the realisam department but it sure made me feel good while I was nearly over run in Last Defense (after 4/5 time playing (sent my TD's and extra plt home). Now to the point...a random number generation at Turn 30 (or what ever "Scheduled" game end) should decide if the game continues. And each turn another random generation is made. This makes us cagey Humans sweat and allows a slowly recovering AI a bit more time. We Humans should never know exactly when the game will end...we'll just plan accordingly!
  24. As I read Fionn and BTS last post I paused to remember How I "won" the first game of Last Defense as US. I lost one intire Plt, including POW's on the East side of Town. Most of the Plt along the stone Wall were KIA or pinned. All that Made me (saved me?) a winner WAS the TD's... of course, You Should See Me Now? I'll hold myself plan of No Opinion on the Game until I actually play the game... No the Beta Demo I suspect was released to keep all us WAR wolves at bay!
