  1. Whole platoons cut down in an instant. Accurate, persistent mortar strikes amongst my maneuvering units. I never got CMBN 2.0, and for whatever reason did not pick up the Italian theatre yet, so most of these 3.0 changes just blow me away. Not to take away from the original CMBN, but this is what I always wanted out of this game/engine. I love me some H2H, but playing the AI in this new version is amazing. I've been trying out a lot of the tactics I've heard here, mostly stuff from Bill H. (Sorry Ken, my wave attack, see above, just didn't seem to work out. Must not have given my men the proper "motivation." ) Well, I'm off. This game rocks. Thanks BF.
  2. i am nfortuntely using my windows software keyboard because mine just died, . but i have to ah screew it. best cm ever paying a soviets is amazing. agree that platoon is lowest group ill use to maneuver etc. arg nvrmnd. fun new challenge.
  3. I know I'm inviting disaster upon us all, but I almost wonder what John Kettler has to say on the matter. I think I remember him posting a pretty good excerpt from a Soviet tanker's memoirs.
  4. Well I did mean with regards to the Soviets. Maybe I just feel guilty about the a$$ whooping I just put on my friend. Playing Hot Seat is hilarious, I had first viewing so I'd turn the music down as low as possible and try to hide my emotions so as to keep him in the dark as long as possible. Ahhh... what a glorious game.
  5. Got tired of bumping that moron's thread, so I figured I'd take this question here: So after a tense stand off between: an IS-1, a SU-85, a SU-152 and 2 Ba-64s versus a King Tiger, a late model Tiger, and a Marder, I came out on top. My Su-152 dinged the King Tiger head on, and then backed out of its hull down position out of sight. I brought up my Su-85, and after removing a house in my line of sight, managed to spot the Dastardly IS-1, Ba-64 killing machine. Now here is my question: I noticed, and have heard on this board before, that Soviet Tank commanders were told to keep their hatches down. (My vocabulary decreases with every drink I finish.) I ended up opening the hatches on my two remaining Tank Destroyers (/assault guns) which were hiding in a patch of woods. This enabled me to spot the King Tiger, and subsequently his slightly smaller little brother, with relative ease. I say relative because the Tiger machine gunned down the TC shortly after it delivered the kill shot to the KT. No, wait... now here is my question... How gamey is this? I know that, intrinsically, using Western style tactics with the Soviets is a form of "gamey-ness" in of itself, but how far off am I with regards to opening the hatch for better visual awareness? We decided to do a tank only battle, (my buddy justtttt purchased the game perhaps an hour ago) so I figured spotting was going to be key to the battle. (Hence the scout cars). Any input on this would be great... I have much to learn about Soviet tactics and strategy. BTW- Best CM I've played so far!!!!!
  6. OH HAPPY DAY!!! Can't wait to shoot those 91/30s!
  7. Jorge MC, that first Tiger looks amazing! (The second, not so much.) Saferight, that last picture of the AT gun looks real sharp. It's been a bit since I've booted up CMBN (never purchased the upgrade either), but is that a focus effect I am seeing? It seems like the AFV in the background is slightly blurred.
  8. I don't know why, but I just love hit decals so much. Any plans on perhaps giving their location (angle and rough point of origin) and caliber when highlighted post game? I hate having to say this, but I don't yet have Red Thunder, so maybe this is already in. In that case, that guy said it.
  9. Have you dusted off your copy of CMBN yet John? You should really try it, its a whole new game.
  10. ? He hasn't even zoomed in yet, assuming he hasn't released a new video within the last hour or so. I don't think we've seen anything just yet. Something about the inclusion of a pioneer battalion, and mandatory barricades is just one thing that stuck out to me. A line of hedgehogs across a road/bridge would render that route impassable in normal CMBN, or has that since been upgraded?
  11. And common, 4 shots of the guy pulling a jacket over his head, but all we saw was about the same 2-3 tanks (maybe all just the same T-34)? Oh well, more vodka comrade.
  12. But hate outrageous prices for "fake" items. Reminds me of all those faux Hitler-Youth knives being sold as originals.
  13. $60 + shipping for replica WW1 German helmets. Arg... I remember when I passed on an authentic WW1 Tommy helmet when I was about 12 during our neighborhood's annual yard sale. $25 was a lot back then! And don't get my started on my friends Great grandfather's SS helmet. It was a thing of beauty, (just the shell, however) but it was lost in his parent's marital schism when we were still youngsters. Love collecting war memorabilia.
  14. Just some random thoughts/comments/questions. -I like the aggressive flanking movement with 1 platoon even after 2 platoon got its nose bloodied hard. -It appears you are going hard in with your Kreigsmarine troops. I applaud that decision (as does, I'm quite sure, Ken) as it doesn't seem like they will be able to do much with their bolt action rifles and (I imagine) low morale. A quick push into town before force dispositions are discerned on both sides might be a way to avoid a heavy slog through those packed streets once things settle in. -I wonder what you will do with the half tracks at the bridge approach. You alluded to a wait for armored reinforcements, I feel like that might be the best way of going about it. Have you considered dismounting your half-tracks before you make any sort of reconnaissance in force with them? I hope that last question doesn't sound condescending, I am not usually very good with mechanized forces (or urban battles for that matter.)
  15. To be honest, I don't think Battlefront has an issue with asking/talking about other games, esp. on a General Discussion thread. That being said however, I purchased APOS about a year or so ago for 20.00. Upgrading it is a pain in the ass, and in my opinion several features are fundamentally flawed and undo the whole game experience. I haven't given it a chance in a while, but again that has more to do with the impossible upgrade situation (and lack of customer support) than anything else. -BUT OP LEVEL combat simulation? I guess that's what drew me in.
  16. One dube later, and now I'm reading about ""The Bell." Consider yourself responsible Yeknod.
  17. Pep pills. Without doing too much digging, (however I will if someone is interested), you can find videos online detailing the usage of pep pills by Heli pilots in our modern military. I believe at least one friendly fire incident was blamed on them, and when Bradley Manning released the helicopter footage (amongst other things) of the air assault on the imbedded AP reporter in Iraq, the narrator said something to the effect that the pilots were under a lot of stress, what with flying multiple sorties and being strung out on, you guessed it, pep pills. I guess that is a pretty big accusation, so again, if anyone is interested, I'll start digging. -Getting weird and not really interested in dropping sources, Chicago Manual style is so 20th century: Hitler had cocaine eye drops and usually took a good shot of amphetamine to get him going in the morning. Mixed with morphine, or perhaps it was Heroin (marketed by Bayer, until it lost the rights along with Aspirin post Versailles treaty). My main man JFK ate pills like they were candy, and this was 20 years later. I don't know who I'm arguing with now, but you wouldn't believe that Obama/Bush/Putin have never popped a beta-blocker, benzo, or amphetamine-salt tabet? "Its made by scientists, Dewey."
  18. Anddddddd off topic. Golden Monkey by Victory is the holy grail of beers. I think its something like 12.5% alcohol. Haven't seen it in New England in years.
  19. Well we both seem to be Eastern Standard time... perhaps some weekend we can get a TCP together, or rather, I'd be up for a PBEM. PM me for more info or I'll get to you when I can commit to this. As of right now, I'm still messing around with maps and slogging it out against the CPU. I loved playing PBEM with CM match maker, it made things so easy, when I used to play CMx2 CMBN online before the latest round of patches and modules came out. When I upgrade/acquire the new modules I'll get back into it. Until then, its CMx1 for me. As for CMC, its a shame it never got picked up by the open source community, just reading that AAR on the Battlefront Page had me licking my lips. Its like a working... ahem... its like it would have been a functional hybrid tactical/strategic war simulator ala APOS (which is terrible to update, and has massive amounts of flaws to it. And its RT, which just doesn't work for a game on that kind of scale). Really, CMC would have blown that game out of the water and for much less money, one would think. The re-playability would have been much higher, I would presume. It also would have probably ignited a few more CMx1 releases, if only to supplement the Campaigns release. I honestly think the full force of the CM community could have gotten it to a point where it was at least playable.
  20. Duh! Somehow I had turned off all extra terrain elements. Thanks again for your help!
  21. Oh my... I meant to list possible remedies that I had not tried yet, and that was at the top of the list. I am going to check. And I commend you for your quick response, its nice to see there are still some people creeping these CMx1 forums. Although I own most of the CMx2 games, this version runs on my everyday computer and can be a blast when I can get my friend to play TCP or hotseat with me. Can't wait to pick up CMGL, but man oh man the possibilities with the old engine is endless, so long as you can use a little bit of your imagination.. PS: Kick-starter campaign for CMC? I think yes. Have any idea if there is an openware site available for the game somewhere? Thanks again for your quick response, I'm off to do some more troubleshooting!
