panzermartin
I'm curious, can you enjoy the game even when multiple tanks appear on screen? It is most propably either a cpu or ram problem. While paused the game is smooth as silk even when maxed out. Tank calculations seem to kill the frame rate. panzermartin
Most missions run fine, I dont have the 3-5 FPS problem some people are encountering. But in the Seelow scenario for example they can get as low as 7-8 when 10+ tanks are active.
Preacher
I have 1gig and have zero problems with frame rate. Ricky
Hammer-n-Sickle
2 GIGs here, no issues. Are you sure you have dual core or just hyper-threading ??
Hammer-n-Sickle
ah P4 D 2.8 = Dual core with Hyper-threading capability. May want to disable the hyper-threading. I think there is a thread on that.

ChrisND
1 gig RAM with 3.16 gig processor and my frame rate is laggy as nuts when a few vehicles enter the game... the game is smooth as can be while paused. I keep my graphics on low/very low too.
panzermartin
My p4 is "dual core" but not the newer intel core2 duo. Dont know the difference. Must be slower though. I checked the nvidia control panel and no threaded optimization option was there. Maybe the game takes advantage of only the single 2.8ghz which must be a bit slow If I had a cheaper 3.4 single core, TOW would run better? Hammer-n-Sickle
You must disable hyper-threading (if you have it) in the system BIOS.
panzermartin
No, I didnt find such option in the BIOS.
Hammer-n-Sickle
Its possible then you don't have it. If you did I would see probably on a performance section of your BIOS. Form what I get on the net that P4 D 2.8 is a Hyper threader I've never had one of the older dual cores but you can see the logical cores through task manager > performance. I'm not sure but if you have dual cores with Hyperthreading you may see 4.
Hammer-n-Sickle
I've found this. Might be looking into Check out this hotfix for XP sp2 KB896256 It's to do with dual core issues in windows.
panzermartin
Hmm..I dont have SP2 installed. Maybe that can cause decreased performance on my dual core. I'll give it a try, thanks a lot!
Hammer-n-Sickle
oh thats your problem.. SP1 is not designed (at kernel level) to deal with multiple cores. install SP2 and you might see a difference
Hammer-n-Sickle
Something about ACPI Power management for Dual cores. Let us know how it turns out
aleader
1 GB RAM, Athlon 4000+ (no dual core), 7600GT, Creative X-Fi. No issues (1152x864, 2xQ AA, 8X AF) with framerates at all in any battle so far at high settings ('very thick grass' is the only thing that seems to slow it down when zoomed at ground level). Capt. Toleran
I had one GB, the multiple tanks were killing my PC (Athlon 64 3700+). I upgraded, everything is great now.
JThorn
Athlon 64 4000+, 1GB Ram, GeForce 7900GS Max settings smooth as silk.
longbore
Im experiencing major slow down to 2 to 3 fps. Using the Steel Torent as an example when the soviet tanks start to appear, the slow down begins. I can move across the screen when paused other wise it lags really bad... My spec: GeForce 6600GT AMD 2800+ 1.5 Gigs Ive tried using the control panel for Nvidia and hyper threading is not listed as an option. Ive tried mutiple options but no luck yet... aleader
Reading the myriad of posts on this, I don't believe RAM is the issue. My guess is code optimization and\or driver issues that BF has to iron out. SOme have said enabling single monitor support (under Nvidia control panel) and\or checking 'single CPU' in the TOW settings seems to help. Ross_Moorhouse
Playing the demo. (Full game d/l now) I have 1gb RAM. To move around the map I use PAUSE and then scroll around. This makes for very smooth movement. I can still scroll while the game is playing but it is a wee bit slower.
panzermartin
I installed SP2 along with the hotfix and game is a little bit smoother, 2-3 FPS more perhaps. Still big armour battles need pausing to move around. Not a big difference certainly, since it seems TOW only sees one CPU anyway Thanks for the help though!
