Flanker15
I think that's what they were called in CMx1, they were the alternative to scenarios where multiple battles were fought on a single map (with shifting lines and persistent damage). Are these in CMSF, I've only read about scenarios and the campaign?
Mace
What's known as CMx1 operations is not in CMSF, being replaced by the better (IMHO) campaign system. However It is possible to design a CMSF 'operation' by designing a campaign of several scenarios taking place on the one map.
Flanker15
Cool, so if I play a map twice in a campaign will and destroyed vehicles and buildings still be there?
Sergei
No, it's still separate scenarios (or at least treated that way). Although a designer can damage the map by hand to reflect the passing of time. Losses to core units (a battle can have auxiliaries, or even consist of auxiliaris only) remain until replaced, the replacement and resupply factor is set for each battle. You can for instance after a success in Battle A have full supplies in Battle B, while loss results in no resupply. Or the result could be going to Battle C.

Axel
Damn, Operations were (where?) beast in CMx1
kipanderson
Hi, Operations were also my favoured way of playing CM . Great to hear that the text files used for campaigns are so flexible that one can create ones own “operations” by having a campaign on one or two maps. In fact the editing of campaigns makes a huge difference in a long list of ways in term of the potential of CMSF. It has always been my view that CM is way too good a simulation to use simply for one-off battles. Operations and campaigns are the future . All good fun, All the best, Kip.
Flanker15
So there's no way to have battles fought over a shifting front line on one map with consistent damage? That's a bit sad.
Moon
Not really because you need to remember that CMSF is set in WW2, where something like that was much more likely to occur. Even more so, CMSF is focussed on the Stryker Brigade Combat Team which would rarely be tasked with this kind of mission. Martin

Martin So, what you're saying is that we'll see the return of the "classical" Operations in the next WWII CMx2 title? SWEET
