Sunday Bloody Sunday VS Black Sabbath

Too bad there is no online lobby. I would have rather just watched the end of the ice map game.

The dam was definitely the best game yesterday. We had more of a plan, but Phonan et al. nearly had us there in the last 2 minutes. If you had waited another 45 sec with the cutter we could not have retaken the dam. Too bad Imperial Grunt wasn´t there, so much cool infantry action.

In Dead Gulch our numerical superiority made all the difference. I have grown fond of the ATGM vehicles. Perfect for whittling away the heavies.

CTF was fun too, would have been more fun if the server hadn´t acted up.

I have an idea for tomorrow's games. Could we have at least one Objective round where all the bots are sidelined on the far ends of a map and have all the real players mix it up with infantry only? Or maybe have some bots in the action to level the playing field but making sure they only had infantry? Turrets would be allowed as well and maybe SAM Paladins but all the action would be with real players and optionally bots using infantry.

I definitely think we should have a rematch against the bot tanks with our infantry. It's been a very long time since any of us lost to the bots. One thing I think we should experiment with is using the Paladin as an infantry carrier to get them to the objective under fire - something we've never really done.

Yeah jby, I'll try to get some practice with the infantry in the Paladin in standalone and then maybe we can have some practice online?

I believe Poesel once compared the Paladin to a bus smile.gif

Yes, that's what it is, jby. A bus that comes in 7 different flavors:

20mm (chainsaw, if combined with HMG infantry could be a battle decider smile.gif )

76mm (better range, nice firing rate, but not enough bite :( , needs all the help it can get from infantry )

Ion (no real use other than popping tires  , since it has to move all the time, infantry wouldn't be a good idea )

ATGM (great if you find a concealed place with infantry to guard you ;) )

EWV (the best kind of Paladin, invisible to bots, almost immune to AT grenades, and with a infantry escort it could also be a battle decider :D )

Light Mortar (useful if you know what you're doing  and again infantry could guard you)

Long Range SAM (always great for area denial but infantry wouldn't be as great with it as with other Paladin-inf combos).

Also, in my opinion, Jung's right, we've got to have another all human infantry vs. tankbots battle soon, so let's see if we can rustle up more real players for the glory.

Ah well, so much for my original 7 flavors post.

Here's my revised list of Paladin-infantry combos after Jung's and jby's posts and a little standalone experience with the 76mm Paladin:

20mm and HMG or Rifle infantry (still a chainsaw, this could be deadly, esp. if Jung and STONEWALL team up  )

76mm and HMG infantry (Good all-around combo, could become a mainstay  )

Ion and Ion infantry (Have had standalone experience with the Ion Thor and loved it. Next time we meet on the field of battle I'll try to show you what I can do with it. But back to my opinion. An ion vehicle usually needs to stand in one spot to be effective so I can't say why anyone would take a Ion Paladin. Unless you're high up and have an Ion infantry squad with you, then you could do something...)

The Ion tank (and paladin for that matter) need to be used to formations to be truly effective. When used in a mass formation, with some mixed unit support, Ions can completely dominate certain maps - right down to shooting everything out of the sky. If Nexus wasn't so busy being a dad I'm sure he would be glad to demonstrate what I'm talking about. Personally, I find the "zap!zap!zap!" sound of the Ion cannon to be a little too mesmerizing to use for long.

Nice, I never thought of that method. I've used the Ion units on certain maps (Dead Gulch for instance) in standalone as a "Weapon of Doom" with multiple Ion units shredding the enemy from the hills, but I'd love to see what you're talking about, Jung. As for the sound, I like it enough that I can be around it without losing my mind.

Interesting CTF game yesterday 152mm!

While I admit that my defeat was partly caused by my arrogance after my first flag capture, the subsequent disintegration of my game had two reasons. self defeat1) I had killed all your apollos, meaning that your bots chose to mass-drop thors. self defeat 2) my bots chose to field nothing but ions for unknown reasons (after using up all my shrikes), making it impossible for me to catch your first flag run.

At that point i should have consolidated my defences, but instead opted for capturing the flag again leading to my ignomious defeat.

re: the preceding team games:

Black Canyon: hard fought but indecisive. Agressively attacking the enemy base payed off, keeping Jung, Stonewall & Wingtips from making a decisive attack on our base.

Yeah, jby, I thought the game was lost at first. But I managed to decimate your defenses, grab the flag, and wait for you to come with mine. After that, on the second flag run, I grabbed the flag, ran past one of your Apollos and came over the rise just as you killed yourself. If you had delayed your death by 1 second...=8-().

Back at Black Canyon, my idea to bring Verdun home to Jung really worked (aside from his sputtering :D ), and and I got a few good shots, such as shooting down WingTips' dropship at the enemy base smile.gif . Oh, by the way, Jung, there was only one mortar at Black Canyon yesterday, and that was me.

We should really try to get as many players as we can for next week. How about we all set up our draglines and look for online players throughout this week to inform them about Sunday's games? My slot for searching should be from 6-8 EST (may vary by circumstances).

Black Canyon requires a no mortar fire on base rule to avoid degenerating into a smash it all and damn the strategy type affair. It is just too tempting and too easy to blow up the other team's facility. The only allowable use for mortar fire for me, and according to my copy of theNew Geneva Space War Convention, on Black Canyon is to kill enemy Bacchus, otherwise it gets ugly. Also, I did know that was you with the mortar 152, I was tracking the shots on the tac map.

As for spreading the word about Sunday, I managed to pass the word on to a couple of new players I've meet recently, as well as Wingtips yesterday. So I continue to do my best to keep people showing up.

Oh yeah, sorry about swearing at you guys yesterday; it was all meant in jest of course.

Sorry for violating the New Geneva Space War Convention, but I did kill off one Bacchus and numerous deployables during my bombardment. Speaking of which, could you put the rules of that convention up here so everyone knows what's a do and what's a don't?

Of course, Jung, and/or in drink. You should have seen jby's impression of you at the end of our CTF game at Low Dunes! smile.gif

Good job! So why didn't you return some rounds back to me? ;)

Those were some really great games today, everyone. I especially loved Low Dunes, and the scramble for the flag on "The Hired Help" was great! I hope we can keep mixing up the maps, because playing on new ones each time makes for some great games. Nice to see Kim2 on now, hope he's a regular appearance at our Sunday games (at least on our side,) from now on. Thanks and great games to everyone who played!

Yeah, great games!

Thumbsup for Wingtips and Kim2 for trying to do ice map the elegant way (taking the AA tower, very difficult though smile.gif )

Needless to say I was going to destroy the tower :D

too bad my drop window vanished during the zero g game (the game was good anyway, I was able to take over bots))

being flown by Phonan-Viper while carrying the flag was great as usual smile.gif

Yeah, I had some fun times with Kim2, I invited him over to the Sunday games back on Monday. A better driver and gunner than WingTips, but still in need of improvement. Just like myself when I first went online...

On Haven, WingTips tried to carry away the flag in a Tempest (boy, you don't see very many of those nowadays), but the defenses stopped him. The second time he tried (in a Shrike), I stopped him.

On Collins Depot, I got a brief taste of revenge. I had seen Phonan menacing us in a Viper in the previous round, so I decided to get revenge, and grabbed him briefly with the winch seconds before I got caught by AA. But still, it was funny to see Phonan shouting "152?" hehehehe :D .

Anyway, there were some hard fought and bitter battles, but they were a lot of fun. I hope we see more like them. Check my soon to be posted satirical guide of how a flood of new players will ruin this awesome, well balanced, groundbreaking game on the Das Noob topic.

Nice games this Sunday, but one thing is bugging me. The round we had at Raid. There were mines around the objective, laid down by jby, Ithai, and Redcon. Were they allowed to do that? As far as I know, it's not allowed without mutual consent between the two sides.

And Jung, could you print the first edition of the New Geneva Space War Convention? I'll be happy to sign it. smile.gif If you can't get enough material, we could always start a new topic to gather it.

As noted in my Das Noob topic, I'm proposing that we have some rounds next Sunday to determine whether or not a appointed team commander would make a difference. Now to lay down the scenario. How does this sound:

The first round will be on Recon In Force, and only Water will have a team commander, Blood will use the normal command setup. The second round will be at House to House, and this time Blood will have the dedicated team commander.

Also, I'd like to be the Water team commander for the Recon In Force round.

Any suggestions? And anyone who wants to join my side and rule in triumph? smile.gif

About mines: theres always the Cutter to clear them. They are slow as hell but can take quite some punishment before going down. A dedicated Cutter driver can eliminate any minefield he wishes.

So I don't see a problem with mines on Objective or Territory maps.
