BTS, How about a co-op mode?

Recommended Posts

A cooperative mode would be great, 2 sets of Allied/Axis forces, full fog of war between them at first (i.e. "friendly units are opearting inthe vicinity, attempt to link up"), with good chance of friendly casualties.

It would add great depth to the game and would make running huge Eastern Front scenarios easier on the players.

Also 2 on 1 or even 3 on 1 modes could be done. (Imagine the Peng threads a 3 on 1 victory for the outnumbered side would create...)

Any chance of that?

You know what would be cool? When you first saw troop movement, it could be a generic troop matker (i.e. non-nationality) and then you would have to decide: do I fire, do I wait? That would be neat trying to decide where your allies were and where you wouold first spot the enemy. I like it, and I believe I read somewhere that it was a possibility.

Now here is an idea which has captured my imagination. All kinds of possibilities in co-op mode. :D

Outstanding idea! I've actually thought about it before, but never brought it up. I didn't think about the FOW effects on friendlies, however.

Now this is an idea I think is worth championing.

It would be particularly useful in campaign efforts like the Meta Campaign.

Thanks for bringing this up!

Steve, Charles, Matt, Kwazy, anyone got any comments on the feasibility of this?

Thanks Rune, I should have searched but I haven't had much patience for the slowness of it at the moment.

Makes sense that this would require a lot of coding that would dramatically slow CM2 development.

But when (or if) it comes, it will really add a new dimension.

I have always wondered why playing an opponent you can not play a Axis on Axis or Allie on Allie.

I understand they are trying to make it historical but when playing an opponent it all comes down to tactics and it would be interesting to play an opponent who is also a German.

Its a great idea. Sid Meyer's Gettysburg had this option in mutlyplayer games. It was so cool, each side gets a company plus support. There are lots of CM players you get overwelhemed with larger battles. Plus when your teamate does not do excatly what you want him do, really would make CM2 that much more realistic.

Guys,

It already IS possible to play CM in a cooperative mode, using a combination of

the "Alt-S" command prior to hitting the

"Go" button and "cc"-ing turns to all

players involved.

If players "A" and "B" are both playing

against player "C"...

"A" selects the setup phase, and sends it

to "B". "B" then places his half of the

units during the deployment phase, and

DOES NOT hit the "Go" button; rather, he

selects "Alt-S" and sends the still incomplete setup phase file to his partner,

"B".

"B" then inputs his deployment orders

and hits "Go", sending the file to their

opponent, "A".

After "A" has done his stuff, he sends

the file to BOTH his opponents and the process continues throughout.

As long as the first guy on the

cooperative team always uses the "Alt-S"

option, everyone gets to input their

orders, AND watch the resultant movie.

This works, I've done it.

Please..don't thank me.

Not only to the game, but to all of the arrays as well.

This has been discussed ad nauseum. It is a great idea, but not an idea that is feasable at the moment. We must wait until CM II:The Next Generation.

Stixx,

I'm dead serious, dude. I've PLAYED

it this way previously with two other

guys in here; Bullethead and Rookie.

If you guys don't want to take advantage

of it, I really couldn't care less.

However, the fact remains that

COOPERATIVE MODE -IS- workable with

the current CM engine when the

instructions I posted previously are

followed.

You guys that want to play in this

fashion are missing the boat entirely

if you think my post was in jest.

Regards,

Oddball <CAF>
