Legion
Started off thinking I might become a pilot in the RAF. Volunteered for the Bundeswehr instead. Changed my mind, and came to the US. Bored with ROTC so I enlisted, two years w/1st Cav in Ft. Hood, then light infantry, OCS, field artillery... And now I work in advertising. Go figure. (Similar hours, but lots more money, no P.T., and I've only been shot at once.)

Zamo
Yeah Frenchy, I have no problem with "Wingers". I'd buy the whole air wing a round of beers so long as they do their job and keep the Air Farce away. They used to scare me more than a flock of Hind-D's. Everybody looks like a bad guy from 10,000 feet. Give me Marine Air any day of the week. I remember once down at 29 stumps a Cobra loosed a tow or some damn rocket at a target downrange from behind me and I hadn't even known he was there until that tremendious roar voomed over head. He was about 75-100 yards astern of us, indexing targets WAY outside our range (M-60A1). I always thought it was ridiculas for ground pounder Marines to lambast Wingers so much, when everybody who ain't a Marine is a much better target. Isn't that why God invented Squids? W@NKER
I was in the danish army as a Gunner on the Leopard 1A5 from 1993-1998 During that time I was stationed in Croatia(Zirovac and later Petrinja)in 1994 under UN and then Bosnia(Tuzla) 1995/96 under both UN and NATO(IFOR) we drove on to 4 antitank mines during a patrol north of Doboj, and we got a away with almost no scratches, only black eyes, but the commander got some fragments in his arm and face , but we were lucky, that the tank did manage four mines, even though all of our ammo was squezed pretty good But I still miss my tank everyday ------------------ Armored vehicles are bullet magnets, a moving foxhole that attracts attention [This message has been edited by W@NKER (edited 08-17-2000).]

Leatherneck
USMC, 1968 to 1970. 2nd Btn/5th Marine Regt/1st Mar.Div. One year tour Vietnam as interpreter (took the 12-week wonder course at the Army's language school at D.L.I.W.C.), infantry combat squad leader, 81mm mortar Plt. Sgt., and a bodyguard/field S-4 rep. for a Lt. Colonel trying to get his full bird the last 6 weeks of my tour. Someone said: "God created Squids to provide the Marines with a taxi service." In truth, I always considered the NAVY (my dad was a Seebee in WW2)the Motor Transport Division of the Marine Corps. But truthfully, I met a lot of great Navy medics sharing foxholes when the crap hit the fan and they were only armed with .45 pistols. THAT you gotta respect! Emos
Ohio Army National Guard for eight years ('85 to '93). My specialty was a 57F....Graves Registration Specialist! (UGH...yeah I know!) I had originally planned on becoming a medic but I wound up flunking the color blindness test (THAT was a surprise discovery)! Since close to 90% of the MOS's were unavailible to me I decided to go the coroner route (next best choice was Laundry & Bath). Oh well....at least I had a hell of a section (lots of twisted people)! ------------------ "You can't fight in here, this is the War Room!" --Dr. Strangelove--

Derfel
Lots of US types here... Just to balance the scales: '82 -10 months with the Swedish Artillery (we all served in those days.) '84 Swedish UN- force in Cyprus '86-'88 Swedish Engineer Coy Lebanon '90 Swedish Eng Coy again Miss the UN-service a lot, especially drinking with the Irish and Canadian troops and then fighting with the brits.
