USMC, 1968 to 1970. 2nd Btn/5th Marine Regt/1st Mar.Div. One year tour Vietnam as interpreter (took the 12-week wonder course at the Army's language school at D.L.I.W.C.), infantry combat squad leader, 81mm mortar Plt. Sgt., and a bodyguard/field S-4 rep. for a Lt. Colonel trying to get his full bird the last 6 weeks of my tour.
Someone said: "God created Squids to provide the Marines with a taxi service." In truth, I always considered the NAVY (my dad was a Seebee in WW2)the Motor Transport Division of the Marine Corps. But truthfully, I met a lot of great Navy medics sharing foxholes when the crap hit the fan and they were only armed with .45 pistols. THAT you gotta respect!
