Setting up a place on here to player other players?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have been playing CBM since it first came out and have CBMN on my PC now, What i would like to do is set up a playing group on here so we can arrange games?.

Do you think this is a good idea, as a few other group i have joined seem to be a bit hit and miss in trying to get a game going.

So if anyone is up for this?.

daz, as it stands now your best option is to join clubs dedicated to multiplayer.

Some choices:

http://webandofbrothers.de/index.htm

I am a member of the above two and vouch for both of them as places to find worthy PBEM opponents.

From what I understand there is also a club called The Blitz.

I am a member at both.  Definitely recommend joining.  WEBOB seems to have more CM1 interest while FGM is more CM2.  Both are running tournaments for both though.  Great people and threads.  **** heads and unnecessary posts on stupid **** is pretty much shut down before it is started.  That way you do not waste your time reading through nonsense posts.

Thanks for the links to FGM and BOB. I will join one or the other.

Any pro's con's for either?

You could join both. ;-) WeBoB is harder to join. You have to have a sponsor and finish a game with your sponsor before you're let in. This is to help weed out people who drop games. FGM is easier to join....you just start an account. Like enticed73 stated, WeBoB has a lot of members who still play CM1, but there is plenty of CM2 action there also.

FGM has a ladder that resets every year, and the winner is awarded a prize. It's more of a "friendly" ladder than a competitive one, however. Even losing a game earns you ladder points so the ladder tends to reward those who play more games.

Not sure how the Blitz operates. Perhaps someone could fill us in?

The Blitz operates pretty much the same.  Open to all, yearly ladder praises.  You can view the ladders yearly or for all time and you can also sort by ELO score and therefore see players relative performance rather than by the number of games played.  I would say that people take the ladder seriously.  The site is friendly and while I have had a couple of players disappear the vast majority have been excellent opponents.  Most of my regular opponents I met on theBlitz.  At the time I chose theBlitz over FGM because of the ELO scoring on the ladder (while I am friendly I do take competition seriously and see only limited value in rewarding participation).

Here is the all time WWII ladder sorted by ELO: http://www.theblitz.org/ladders/combat-mission-x2/b-11.htm?action=ladder&id=16&page=1&orderby=elo&order=desc

While the same ladder sorted by score: http://www.theblitz.org/ladders/combat-mission-x2/b-11.htm?action=ladder&id=16&page=1&orderby=score&order=desc

We also maintain a list of scenarios and how members have performed on them.  This is open to all and can be useful when choosing a scenario that will play well for H2H play: http://www.theblitz.org/scenarios/combat-mission-battle-for-normandy/b-15.htm?action=scenarios&game=153

Nice Electric Light Orchestra!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system In a nut shell it was developed to help rate chess players and is used for lots of other games too.  It allows the comparison of performance between players who might have never actually played against each other but play against others in a pool of players.
