Bravo!

So, may I humbly ask for the same pattern helmet cover thrown in the helmet mix? But I love your "chicken wire a la mode" and "white wash with dings and wear" helmets. We'd need a plain grey in there too. I think. Will that many fit?

You are very talented. Thanks again.

Oh yeah, that's already in the mix. Hang tight, there'll be plenty of variety in everything.:D

We plan to have everything up on 8 September.

If you just want the current Baraque de Fraiture map "as is" without any of the bells and whistles (It is not a scenario, it might have some test forces purchased...it is meant only as a snow CMFI GL map, if non-snow, it is not tweaked for variety of flowers, weeds, etc. if you know what I mean, Vern) PM me with your e-mail address and I will be glad to shoot it to you. It is only 94kB...

TURN 40:00 to 39:00

(Wow! Only 20 minutes has elapsed! Some of these battles seem to be so long, but for the pixel truppen, it is hardly a bit more than half some lame half-hour SITCOM!!!

And some guys died before the first commercial break! )

This pic reminds me of that song by the Police that goes, "Giant steps are what you take, walking on the moon. de doot doo dooooooo" << craters, get it? >>

Giantsteps_zps364c5ee3.png

I got spanked. I was there too long and kinda drifted off just watching from the trees. But you all are watching noob's avante garde AAR-360 cinema....

I lost a PzKpfWg IV, an 81mm mortar team and ammo crew BEFORE IT got firing, and 1 and a half HMG teams. Maybe 2. Those 155mm shoot huge plumes of dirt and debris.

I hope my 150mm is causing him some trouble. I think I need to slightly adjust my fire in case he is skirting around the edge of the destructive envelope.

I might be suppressing him since this LMG team managed to quick their heinies to the first building in downtown BdF.

webenehaulingasssolong_zps36c4552a.png

But then some dingle-berry with a 60mm mortar started making the roof belch fire. He has been itching to fire that thing. Jealous of the big tubes. Kinda Freudian maybe???

The big picture:

I am trying to destroy his forces so I can control this town which is THE victory location for the overall operation. I might still lose if I take too many casualties but I definitely cannot win if I don't end the CMPzC game owning this hex.

I am continuing to try and set-up the hammer and anvil on his inner snactuary. I am guessing that is where he is hanging out. If it turns out the answer is no, then I swing back north.

TURN 34:00 to 33:00

Almost halfway through the game folks. <<We have a great half-time show planned!>>

And based on the action which has gone down in the last few minutes, I have decided to press forward. This is not a probe.

Casualties have gone up a slight bit since we last looked at them. I have all the letters written to send home to their loved ones...

68 total KIA among the infantry.

6th Companie: 14 KIA from brushes with PFC A$$hole and friends up in the north-east corner. Plus some recent shelling to HMG teams.

5th Companie: 14 KIA from tank fire at 2 of their HMG teams down in the south-east and center. Plus recent firefights and artillery.

9th Companie: 40 KIA, mostly from his artillery and 6 from TD fire and a dozen from those airborne ba$tards with the Thompsons.

The big picture:

A tank on the east side that backed away from the big 155mm artillery strike, well he bogged and immobilized.

The so called Skorzeny group has accomplished diddly squat. I even shamefully friendly fire killed 2 of their own guys when I had my StuG do a little area fire looking for a possible 2nd gunman in the grassy knoll.

So, their party is over and they are headed on the beeline to the main sanctuary battle.

34-30_zps49760bf1.png

Some good news: We got a 2nd M10 kill. So, worst case is he has 9-2=7 M10's. Maybe one of them immobilized and we can avoid it. We'll see.

M10kill2_zpsdcd6236c.png

I thought he couldn't pull any artillery tricks but he jabbed me good with a stonk pretty far from the road. But with those dang firetrails/logging trails, he has some good FO's with the necessary LOS.

It divided up my one company, the 9th. It aint over. A lot of my troops are hunkered down. I zoomed in but you still couldn't see his rosary.

stonking_zpsbd341c4a.png

I think I get one more picture. We have 2 firefights in progress. Both along roads. His troops on the other side, well positioned, reading comic books, drinking coca-cola. My landsers, dead-tired, dragging a$$, wouldn't do squat for me on "hunt", so ol' master and commander after 7 beers decides to quick them up. Problem is I can't see the roads most of the time since I play with the trees off. We had a group of motivated guys who wanted to take on an M10. But right at the edge of that road, they learned about death, the hard way. <<I didn't do so great in English class as you can gather!>>. I should have superior firepower but the initial shock has my guys behind the curve. I have more troops coming up behind and plan to press forward.

KILL HIS GUYS! KILL HIS GUYS! KILL HIS GUYS! KILL HIS GUYS!

Announcing my first semi-successful milestone sign for the CMFI GL Bulge '44 Mod.

It was a quick job to see if anything I altered would show back up in the game.

Previously I only got black images on the CMBN milestone shape.

I am shopping for the perfect font and a wood grain texture to colorize. The bmps in the game are all flattened so you lose that ability to mod the layers.

Wooo, I am getting dizzy using all these high tech terms!

Newsign_zps66be9bf2.png

And we were just visited by a kubelwagen from the propaganda kompanie. An old feldwebel and a good looking blonde fraulein took a bunch of photographs and mumbled something about paint shop pro.

<<I so wanted to do this in B&W with a horns music Deustche Wolkenshau beginning. Did I get that right Poessel71? Maybe another time.>>

Hey kohlenklau, i recently remembered something before GL came out and that was there are multiple tags and one of them is a whitewash tag which is supported but they didn't make any whitewashed vehicle skins.

And I always love to show off Marco Bergman's superb work on the Shermans.

One of the neat new things coming with Gustav Line is artwork tags that are added to the end of file names. These tags allow the vehicle (and terrain) textures to change based on the date and the weather.

Currently, we support these tags:

[muddy] In wet and muddy weather, vehicles will use this tag. So in wet weather vehicles will appear muddy, in dry weather they won't.

[whitewash] Pretty self-explanatory. We aren't actually making any whitewash artwork for Gustav Line, but the capability is set up to support it.

[olive] In April 44 the Commonwealth vehicles switch from the tan and mud camo pattern to the straight olive green. So starting April 44, all Commonwealth vehicles draw from the [olive] texture instead of the default. Of course, if there isn't an [olive] texture present, they will just use the default.

[mainland] This is for US vehicles and starts in September 43. They switch from the bright green camo to the OD and black camo.

And you can combine the tags! So, for example, [mainland] and [muddy].

Maybe you can get mjkerner to make some whitewashed camos, he would just LOVE that.

2nd attempt at the Manhay sign. I found a different font and figured out how to zoom in on the specific layer with the writing so it better fills the road sign. Next I might try to add some stains or bullet holes. But then again plan B: I might just drink another beer and then go try and get all cuddly with mein frau. Manhayattempt2_zps5ba625bb.png

ImOlest,

Thanks Conner. I didn't know that. I am seeing it in the names of the milestones.

I have had a little luck with them but some still show up black or some other issue.

I just want to sprinkle some cool spices into the mod for flavor. I guess that is why they are called flavor objects!

If you need any special ones for your scenario, I can do them no problem and then when you put out the scenario, send the modded road signs with it as an option to the player?

Congrats, Phil, looking sharp!

And thanks for "Kernerstadt!

Oh, the DB has mail.:)

P.s. Judging by the sharp drop off of email a couple of ours ago, I suspect Mrs. K was receptive to your plan!

mj,

As you are an experienced modder, where do you get textures such as wood grain, etc.? When I had to put the blue color over the sign to eliminate what it used to say, I also eliminated the "look" of it being painted on a wood plank. But that was for Italy. Maybe these NW Europe signs were metal? I think they were, but still I would like to know of an online texture shopping mall you recommend...I googled and there are tons of sites.

Actually, I just use those found in the game. You could check out the buildings or flavor objects for wooden things, and then cut out the part you need, like several boards from the side of a barn, then manipulate the color, use the sharpen or blur tools, etc., from your paint program to change the look as needed.

OK, windows are washed and waxed, front 3 acres are mowed and trimmed.

Gate hinges greased. Cleaned the pool.

Now, with adult beverage in hand, I man my humble PC.

AAR's coming at you after this commercial message.

WHIZZO_c968da_285989_zps005fbfed.jpg

Voice Over: (during an animation) Yes, mothers, new improved Whizzo butter containing 10% more or less is absolutely indistinguishable from a dead crab. Remember, buy Whizzo butter and go to HEAVEN!

(Cut to a group middle-aged lower-middle-class women (hereinafter referred to as 'Pepperpots ) being interviewed.)

First Pepperpot: I can't tell the difference between Whizzo butter and this dead crab.

Interviewer: Yes, you know, we find that nine out of ten British housewives can't tell the difference between Whizzo butter and a dead crab.

Pepperpots: It's true, we can't. No.

Second Pepperpot: Here. Here! You're on television, aren't you?

Interviewer: (modestly) Yes, yes.

Second Pepperpot: He does the thing with one of those silly women who can't tell Whizzo butter from a dead crab.

Third Pepperpot: You try that around here, young man, and we'll slit your face.

Turn 31:00 to 30:00

The half-time show is almost here folks. Relax and grab a beer!

As Colonel Kurtz would say..."the horror.....the horror....."

I bow to the power of his artillery. Those Americans back in the states. Clocking in, making those shells, clocking out for the lunch that the wife made, clocking back in for the after lunch shift...

each of those shells they touched could have been the death for untold numbers of people. Sometimes other Americans. I have heard some interesting stories that during the Korean War, the "commies" would grab our abandoned shells, specifically 81mm mortar rounds and were able to drop then down the tubes of their Soviet made 82mm mortars and fire them at our red, white and blue fightin' men. I hope that regular Joe USA guy on the assembly line for those shells didn't ever learn that had been the fruition of his laborious efforts.

31-30_zps24b89eaa.png

Good news:

Small groups of my men have successfully qualified for the Nuremberg 5k! Even with all that heavy, hardly used equipment, they seem to enjoy running in the fresh air, especially away from the Fire Squirrels. OH YES! According to my men, this part of Belgium is known for the fire squirrels exploding up in the trees. Something about the tannic acid in the acorns....

I am <<strike that!!>> I was pushing towards his inner sanctuary and did score some hits on his boys. But then I had to take a gander at what I was fighting!

Why look at them leggings! Not an airborne trooper! Probably some loader from a 40mm AA gun. Bad JUJU! We are in the wrong neighborhood....

enemnydead_zpse0bf5136.png

I am trying to push my men forward with panzer support into what I "THOUGHT" was his inner snactuary. <<I keep typing SNACTUARY! Maybe I need some snacks. Yumm Yum Yum...>>

funny1_zps6bdcc789.png

OK, our hero of the turn is this StuG crew who despite a minor hit from an enemy AT gun, continued on in the true spirit of National Socialism to destroy 25 enemy tanks, three B-17 bombers, a battleship and a battalion of infantry.

kohlenklau,

Just finished three 12 hour shifts over the weekend and rushed home to find this. I am loving it. The commentary is great, and the pictures are excellent. A little hard to read as I keep falling off my chair with laughing fits. Must be the great comments...or maybe a little punchy from sleep deprivation.

Pretty cool battle, all in all. Keep it up - this is great stuff.
