Ultradave
I'm happy that it's here for Mac OS, but man what a slow download - and I have a pretty fast internet connection. It'll get there eventually. :-)
Collingwood
It is worth the wait though. I wasn't sure I would be able to get into CMSF, but I'm having a ball with it. Enjoy!
Buzz
Ultra-D, Collingwood is correct. Your CMSF Mac fireworks are on the way. Pop a another bottle. Enjoy!
Ultradave
Finally finished - looking forward to the fun (and fitting it in with CMBN/CW, CMFI, and oh, yes, the rest of my life)
MikeyD
The big difference between CMBN and CMSF - wait til you see the first anti-tank guided missile travelling the length of the map heading towards your tank column.
Mord
Yeah, when it comes to the Syrian ATGMs getting up close and personal is actually safer for your NATO forces...but THEN you gotta worry about those very nasty RPGS that can peel open an Abrams like a tuna can! Ultradave
Can't wait for that :-) Any recommendations on must have mods like sound files, etc? I see that there are many. Also, recommendations on how to handle the mods for the various versions (NATO, Marines, British) or can they coexist reasonably well?
poesel
Any recommendations on must have mods like sound files, etc? I see that there are many. That would interest me, too. What are the 'must-haves'? While I'm at it, two questions: Can you acquire a javelin through buddy-aid? in CMSF when you give a move order to both mounted infantry and their vehicle the vehicle will move first and then the infantry will dismount. CMBN OTOH will dismount the crew and then move the vehicle (if the vehicle was not moving before). Right?
Buzz
MD -"The big difference between CMBN and CMSF - wait til you see the first anti-tank guided missile travelling the length of the map heading towards your tank column." You mean like in NATO Bier und Brezel for my New Years eve pyrotechnics paradise:) As for 'must-haves'? There is so much extra material out for CMSF Mac I really have not had time to compare it all. Need to review the sound mods. Simply running CMSF Mac straight up is fun. I have loaded Mikey's T55 T62 MEGA MOD, Marco Bergman's T72 (All versions) Sand/Green, Aris, HD Explosion, Flames SlowMo, Tank Muzzle Fire, Dust and Smoke, Muzzle Fire Tracers, Wolfe Geometric Floating-Icons 1.0, NATO floating icons... to start. Then you have theatre level mods that change the game... CMSF Euroscape v 1.0, Mord's Civil War Mod V1.0 & Mixed Combatant Mod.... and this does not count the hundreds of user made scenarios across all the modules. CMFI CMBN/CW are fun and look real pretty (got them both) but Modern is quick and the "BANGs!" are bigger. I have been mesmerized by the anti-tank guided missile travelling the length of the map to destroy my forces:D
Mord
Here's a list of mods that I made that I feel are my best work. Allah's Army...adds in Allahu Akbars wavs and stuff...best used when playing against insurgents... http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=539 Screams Mod...adds better scream wavs... http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=536 Syrian Fighters. Makes them look more organized and better equipped. http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=537 Mixed Combatants...it gives you a mix of covered and uncovered combatants like you see in News footage. Also makes it easy to tell the difference between Combatants and Fighters. http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=1505 Radio chatter...you'll hear radio chatter coming from vehicles when you get near them...really adds to the atmosphere. http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=549 Unit portrait mod...gives you a huge selection of portrait styles for all CMSF units. Not as good as my later CMBN mod but the choices should make up for it. http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=846 My American voice mod...adds in a ton of US voices that are much more emotive and excited sounding than the stock wavs. You have a base folder and then one for Army or Marines. You load the base folder, and then one of the other folders depending on the branch fighting in that scenario. EX. If you have the Marines' folder loaded you'll hear lots of Marine jargon/terms spoken in the scenario...you'll hear calls for corpsman when someone gets hit, etc. This mod is Rated R. http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=562 British Voice mod...not as extensive as the US one but better than nothing. Also Rated R. LOL George MC did a bang up acting job. http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=547 Have fun. Buzz
Thanks for the links Mord. I tried your sound mods in CMSF Mac and could not hear any changes! Emptied my Z folder put your individual mods, Vocal Mayhem Mod Army & Marines, US AFV Radio Chatter Mod, etc. and got no audible sounds in game. In fact the stock voices were no longer audible with the Vocal Mayhem Mod in place. Odd! I removed all mods and the stock sounds returned. I took out your individual sound files... "vehicle loop engine idle" etc and I can hear the mods just fine via iTunes playback. The sounds are just fine but for some reason in CMSF Mac they appear to block standard game sounds but don't play themselves in the game. Do I need to add ZZs in front of the Vocal Mayhem Mod, etc. for the Mac? Thanks,
Ultradave
I tried them too and had the same issue - a very quiet battlefield.
Mord
That's bizarre. You can try adding a Z to each of the folder names but that shouldn't be an issue, if you dropped them into a completely clean Z Folder with no conflicting mods. I wonder if they changed the wav file names in the Mac version? Or if they changed the bit rates? Mord.
Buzz
Thanks Mord & Ultradave. Yes I deleted the Z folder, created a new on and ran only Mords, sound mods individually to make sure. I know your sound mods work in Boot Camp in CMSF. Back to CMSF Mac Quick ZZ prefix test. US AFV Radio Chatter Mod stock sounds but no Radio Chatter. Vocal Mayhem Mod stock sounds are audible but Vocal Mayhem. "I wonder if they changed the wav file names in the Mac version? Or if they changed the bit rates?" I wondered about this as well.
John Kettler
Mord, With your audio talents, you could revolutionize the insurgent video watching experience for Westerners who don't speak Arabic, Farsi, Pashto, etc., and aren't Muslim. How? Make us an automatic "Allahu Akbar!" suppressor. Were you able to do this, we could enjoy and learn from everything else in the vids (barking cannon, crackling machine guns, bullets hitting buildings, BMP-2s on the move, the whine of a T-72 turret traverse motor), while not losing our minds in the process. Repetition may well be the soul of advertising, but in this case, it is most emphatically counterproductive! Okay. Okay. I know this would be beyond even your skills, but I can wish, can't I? Regards, John Kettler
Buzz
I appreciate the help also. Not really computer savvy but know how to use it now.The Optional terrain mod is a must have for me but i also like using the water tiles for marsh.Have now done a mix and match for both.Much obliged guys Dropping this in a bump to ask if the older CMSF PC sound mods / audio files need to be modified to be heard in CMSF Mac?
