Hilts
Anyone know how close you have to get to effectively take out a Tiger from the side or rear with a Sherman?
Duckman
The British shot up a captured specimen in North Africa: http://www.lonesentry.com/articles/ttt34/german-tiger-pzkw-6.html The Sherman's 75 mm gun could penetrate the rear and side hull armour from 100 yards, but not the front. However several shots fired from the front deflected and penetrated through the hull roof. Finally, and interesting conclusion: There is no doubt that the Germans have produced a very formidable tank, and that it must have been conceived with the idea of making beach landings on the shores of Britain. The waterproofing facilities are certainly superior in design and execution to anything that we have hitherto imagined.
Vanir Ausf B
The lower hull can be penetrated from the side and rear out to around 1500m or so. Against the upper hull and turret from the side you should start to see partial penetrations and maybe an occasional full penetration at 500m. At 300m you should be able to penetrate on most hits. This assumes the Tiger is exactly perpendicular to the Sherman. Effective range drops rapidly as angle of impact increases. As the Lone Sentry report notes, past 17° it may not even penetrate at 100 meters (upper hull and turret). This is all on paper, of course. I haven't tested this in-game.
TheMinistry
One report over at that website renames the King Tiger as a "Pantiger"... well, that's new for me
altipueri
I thought the waterproofing was for fording rivers because bridges were too weak.

LongLeftFlank
There's a link next to the frame. Good old Action, the "Sevenpenny Nightmare", filled cover-to-cover with antiheroes and good old ultraviolence. My parents were scandalized I tell you. I miss the 1970s -- going to hell in a handbasket just ain't what it used to be.
Redwolf
Anyone know how close you have to get to effectively take out a Tiger from the side or rear with a Sherman? In reality it depended heavily on the ammunition used. The very basic AP round shipped for the 75mm had pretty much exactly as much penetration as the side armor is thick (not counting between the wheels). So at point black or 100m you have a chance. Better ammo became available. Performance and distribution numbers can lead to great debates. Some major damage from being unable to penetrate the occasional Tiger's side was that many US tankers were led to believe that they wouldn't penetrate the Panther's side either. Either because they didn't know the difference, couldn't tell them from each other (never having seen a Tiger) or due to plain misinformation.
