  1. There's nothing quite like opening a wargame box and sifting through the contents. Even if you have to earn it first, but as you say it can be enhanced by having to wait. Enjoy it and let us know how you get on with the games
  2. Which ones were the first 3? I may have lost the plot in all of the posts . Initial thoughts on what you got?
  3. My last edit disappeared, so... the paper was posted by GeorgeMC on the CMRT board in 2019.
  4. As if having another birthday this week wasn't enough, you have reminded me again of my advancing years - I actually like having manuals for these games . Having said that, I come here if I want answers to a lot of questions which come up. Oh, and I played the demo for my first CM game (RT) without reading the manual, that was interesting but I still bought the game just afterwards.
  5. Thanks John, appreciate it. And it's great to be here. Might have to get a Kindle version of the Zamulin book, looks well worth an English tenner . A question - does it agree with the recently posted (perhaps by you?) Kursk aerial photography paper which I managed to get a copy of? That paper was a turnaround of major proportions for me, even though I could hardly make out what was in the aerial photographs on my laptop and had to take the author's word for it.
  6. @StieliAlpha I think this post from @IanL answers your question?
  7. Your picture made me laugh, my Panther looked the same, lost both its main gun and its tracks but thanks to the infantry survived to hopefully fight another day.
  8. You obviously like a challenge, well done and respect! I might put in several KTs instead .
  9. As a Brit, I always (well okay not always) play as the Germans. Isn't that the correct way to do it? Works for me anyway...
  10. Sorry to hear that, but very glad you're okay. You and all contributers did a great job. I've just been playing a winter QB and the visuals and sound are fantastic. But yes, +1 to the 'any the day now'
  11. +1 to that. I'm a Slitherine customer and a very long term Steam user. I have no issues with either. Combat Mission is however the best of its type by a long way, so I hope this works out well and feeds more money to BFC for development and of course their general good . Nice to have such active involvement from Steve and everyone else on the forum as well, hope that continues.
  12. As per the old question from the back of the car, 'are we there yet'?
  13. Thanks John. Agreed trawling thorugh the list of 'forgotten' films was a little odd, having watched several of them many times (Cross of Iron for example). Anyway the photos were great, as were the following Kursk photos, although they're a bit better known than the Canadian photos.
  14. Well the first time I loaded up a QB with snow was just to check it was there. However I liked the modded snow, with whistling wind, so much I am now playing a QB on a huge map with it on. It doesn't melt but my panzers seem to bog a lot. All have managed to free themselves so far...
  15. I wondered about that and didn't think I had, but on checking just now I have a folder in Z called 'Mod1' and inside it has lots of Winter mod stuff. Thanks for clearing that one up! Having the mod presumably explains why I actually got deep white snow on the ground as well?
  16. I can confirm that it's there, just tried it to make sure. I had deep snow on the ground and heavy snow falling, even though it was June . Rather nicely some of the troops even had whitewashed helmets.
  17. Loving the video, but this is big news?
  18. Agreed . I got introduced via Google looking for pictures of a Jagdpanther for a signature on another website. Any way that works I suppose .
  19. I'm on PC but I think all of the CM2 stuff (if not earlier) and patches included, has Mac versions. For example the CMBN big bundle patch has the Mac version as the first download file. Hope I'm helping here...
  20. Avalon Hill's Advanced Squad Leader was the last board game I played, quite a while ago. Excellent game but rather heavy on the rules (there was a massive folder full of them). I used 1/300th scale metal tanks on the boards, looked good. Of course there is no Avalon Hill any more... A very good attempt at converting most of it to PC has been made by Peter Fisla, called Tigers on the Hunt. It's like a board game on your PC, and you don't need to consult the rule book every 5 minutes. But you said you don't want PC games . If you did, I'd recommend Combat Mission.
  21. @John 1966 this is Holy Ground right, as per the other posts we exchanged? I put my Stugs behind the walled farm as well, but a lot of the Cromwells never made it that far thanks to my stalwart infantry, so I didn't have the same issue. And at the end I was able to manueouver the Stugs across to the other flank and take out the last two pieces of pesky Allied armour. Great stuff and kudos to the scenario designer CW (I would link but not sure which user to link to)!
  22. Got a bit of success with the Stugs and the same with the ATGs but less so. Was running out of infantry AT ammo by the end so I was glad to still have the Stugs hanging around - they actually finished the battle for me. Just thought, I didn't comment on the subject of the original post. I didn't notice blocked doors in the towers or other buildings. Perhaps I was lucky to chose the direction or time so that it didn't matter.
  23. Played it recently myself. Starting off thinking it was not an easy fight. It wasn't. However, getting meagre resources into place and dealing out sufficient damage was a great experience. Infantry AT weapons saved my day to be sure
