  1. Welcome back to CM2 Captain Bo.  'Blokes' is interesting but probably correct 😁.

I don't think there's such a tool in CM2, I might be imagining it but I think I read that in the interests of 'reality' the player should be able to observe and decide, or take the chances that real life would have offered.  My paraphrasing of course...

Anyway, I've not experienced that many problems with such things, the worst actually being crossing bridges with large armoured columns but that's a bit different.

Also I don't think there's a 'full-battle-video' function or mod, but it has been discussed a few times.

I'm sure other more knowledgeable people will come along and correct me if I'm wrong...

A bit better than AT-3 with a 65mm minimum firing range. But those T72A turret fronts are mighty thick.

Hmmm, as a WW2-title person, this is the sort of detail I'll be missing - at least for a while 😁.

A 65mm minimum firing range?  Or is that 65m?  And just how thick is a T72A turret front?  And what is it made of? etc. etc.

contact the Help Desk and Elvis can send you something to undo this.  Then when F&R is out you will need to Authorize again.  Everything will be fine.  No need to trash your installation.

    Steve

Thanks Steve, think that applies to me and to Dan Dare as well.  Thought something was a bit odd.

Ticket raised, as if @BFCElvis didn't have enough to do today 😉.

Congrats on Cold War by the way.

EDIT:  And several minutes later everyting is sorted.  Many thanks for the rapid response.

  4. Okay, seems like there may have been a lack of communication about the release (or a cock-up - see below).  I have just activated F&R using the Activate New Products link and I now get 1945.  Don't think it's patched however as it's still on 2.02.

It could be a cock-up of some sort, as I don't see any new battles or campaigns listed and there's nothing on the loading screen to indicate F&R.

    @BFCElvis can you clarify please?

in the stand alone battle you begin with some Shermans, on map mortar, and a full platoon of infantry

My curiousity got the better of me and I installed the demo again.

    It has:

    • Demo Linking up and breaking out
    • Demo Training Mission - The Road to Berlin
    • Demo Busting the bocage
    • Demo Closing the pocket

The Road to Berlin looks exactly like the standalone battle '1 Training - Roadblock' (2 Shermans, infantry, MG and mortar to start, and the same again as reinforcements 5 minutes in).  It is however described as 'an adapted version of a training mission' so perhaps the opposition is different.

I'm afraid my curiousity ran out at this point so I haven't tested this suggestion :).

Bloody Ride Campaign .... I am not sure, if it is still playable with the current CM-Version

I can confirm it loads up alright and looks good to go.  Can't comment yet on whether the game version has had any undesired impacts on how it plays.

If anyone is wondering where to get it, I couldn't find it in the usual place, but @Aquila-SmartWargames kindly has a copy in his Dropbox folder listed in his signature.  Thanks for that, and hope you don't mind me broadcasting it :).

Anyway, back on topic, the maps above look great - can't wait to give them a try!

And just to clarify, there are three different versions of the "Roadblock" battle. The demo version, the stand alone battle, and the Task Force Raff mission.

Yes that agrees with what I remember, thanks.  But it seems that was not the battle in question after all...

In my scenarios folder I have 'Busting the bocage'.  RMM, if you don't have it I can send it your way.

Road to Berlin  You happen to know if it's available in v4 somewhere?

Looking at the screenshot that Landser posted above, that's the map alright but in Task Force Raff it looks like you have differerent forces (M8s as well as Shermans for a start).  In the one I mentioned ('1Training - Roadblock') if you have that in your list, it's the same map and pretty much what I remember of the demo version (i.e. two Shermans, infantry and an MG and mortar, reinforced a few turns later by the same forces again).

Is that one listed on your battles list?  I think (but I'm not sure) that it's a stock battle from the base game.  If you do have it, have a look and see if it's as you remember.  If you don't you could PM me with an email address and I'll get it to you.

  9. Maybe the demo changed, I'm just going on the save game files left over from my demo install.

@Warts 'n' all you may be right, the demo download page says 'Four playable scenarios, plus one training mission.'  I can't really be bothered to install the demo again just now (I have a pressing appointment in Stoumont), but perhaps someone who hasn't got BN could try it out and confirm?

  10. And this thread opened by @Combatintman a while ago provides an excellent in-depth look at assessing the battlefield and planning what you intend to do:

It may be a little too detailed for the introductory scenarios but well worth a look.

You're doing the right thing by the way, start small and learn the basics and ask as many questions as you need to.

And welcome to the game and the forum.

To confirm what has already been said about mortar firing vehicles in CMRT.  Engine 4 provided the code support for them to work, but it also required a TO&E overhaul.  It's odd that I didn't fix that way back when, so not quite sure what happened there.  However, it certainly will be fixed with the patch that comes along with the Module.

    Steve

Thanks Steve, I know it's a fairly minor detail in the grand scheme but I appreciate your confirmation.  Looking forward to F&R and whatever's next 😁.
