  1. Well, I guess you got me. I didn't realize you I couldn't force you to do something. I'll have to change my entire internet comms strategy. You can comment on anything you want. It is the internet, after all. My comment was just advice to help you stop looking like a CM homer and reinforcing the BFC beta tester stereotype. But fell free to not follow my commands. I like CM and I like SB. But I haven't played CM modern in almost three years, other than playing a bit of CMCW to see if anything was changed. I still play some WW2 CM, but even that's getting a little old. Anything close to modern though, I play SB.
  2. You really need to back off from commenting on a game you know nothing about. As I already said, you can play SB just like a wargame. You don't need a human in the loop other than high-level decisions. The AI is fully capable of picking targets and firing. In fact, a fourth way to play is from the map only. SB is not perfect. There are things that CM does very well that I would love to have in CM. Mainly the experience and morale settings. But for any combat after 1960, I'll take SB every time.
  3. Steel beasts can be played and is played by a number of people in "wargame" mode. The player plays in third person and the AI runs all functions just like in CM games. That's the best part of the game. You can play first person as a crewman in a tank, as a unit commander of a large until while sitting in an AFV, or as a wargamer. Its your choice. Before making assumptions about a game, might want to take it for a spin.
  4. Spotting has always been at the crux of complaints around the CM games. Its more the inconsistency in it and the fact that no one seems to really know how it works in detail. I think the LOS scanning cycle is part of the perception issue. I used to bump into issues infrequently where I could drive a Sherman right up to a Tiger and the Tiger wouldn't spot for a half a turn. It doesn't happen often, but it happens. Not sure anything can get at those infrequent outliers. Steel Beasts, which I think represents cold war battles better than CM, has its own issues with insta-spotting of infantry and other things. I do find it more consistent in its spotting, good or bad. And it does some very good things around combined arms. There is a wargame mode for it and its still my go to for cold war and near-modern tactical combat.
  5. But I bet he had a better chance of seeing that missile and hear the sound of his doom.
  6. btw, just to answer your question, unless someone posts the links to all the installers, the only way is to go through all your previous orders by clicking on them until you find the installer. But you have know a little about versions and game engines to make sure you get the full one and not an old one.
  7. I have spoken up about the lack of links to the All-in-One installers several times. If the "My Orders" page actually listed the name of the product ordered, a player could sort it themselves. Just another little thing to frustrate players trying to reinstall.
  8. My order of priority for investigation if CM games won't run: Make sure you're not using Intel GPU Remove any sound management software or weird graphical overlays Remove all third party anti-virus (Defender isn't perfect, but its a lot less malware-like and less likely to get triggered by CM's DRM) Double check versions and which CM engine your have Update video drivers. I have found this rarely makes a difference with nVidia and is a last resort. AMD is a little different because of its issues with OpenGL. Those five things I have used for over a decade with almost 70 installs and reinstalls across all the games. I don't think I have ever had to submit a ticket other than being out of activations. Thats Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 on at least 15 laptops. I only included the accounting because I did the math today and shocked myself.
  9. Make sure you're not using the Intel integrated graphics. CM games don't like those. If you're using nVidia, make sure you go into control panel and force any CM game to use the nVidia.
  10. I think the sender was very clear. He was trying to download and the icon just kept spinning. He never mentioned zipping or installing. He said explicitly downloading. Do you understand that zip, 7z, and rar have nothing to do with downloading?
  11. You are either in the wrong thread or completely missing the OP's point. He isn't having issues with unzipping. He can't get the download to start.
  12. I don't think thats what he's asking. And the answer to the actual question is no. There is no other place to download from other than the link to the files. The download site is a little quirky in that it sometimes is super slow and sometimes is very fast. I have tried it before and had the download not start. I wait 24 hours and try again and it works. Thats all I can suggest.
  13. I hereby rescind my defense of the "younger" generation. Obviously they have have as many issues as we do.
  14. Boy, sure is good that everyone tries to welcome a younger generation of players. Lets not worry about BFC's future just so we can fell good about ourselves by putting down people who play and communicate a different way.
  15. Sorry, I quoted the wrong person. The point of my post was even the basic M1 was a massive step up in fire control and armor from almost anything before it. The T-80A and Leopard 2 might be the only thing comparable.
  16. So did that post of armor values help clarify that the M1 was fairly superior to the M-60A3? Just curious if you have a source that contradicts that.
  17. http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbwiki/images/thumb/0/00/M1armour.jpg/600px-M1armour.jpg M1 (105mm) http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbwiki/images/thumb/f/f0/M60frontarmour.jpg/600px-M60frontarmour.jpg M-60A3 TTS This is from Steel Beasts. M1 plain vs M60A3. Most of the guys doing this are non-US tankers who actually measured the physical armor for older tanks. Even without the TIS, the M1 was a significant armor upgrade over the M60A3. http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbwiki/images/thumb/d/d8/T62armour.jpg/700px-T62armour.jpg T-62 http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbwiki/images/thumb/9/9c/T72frontLOS.jpg/700px-T72frontLOS.jpg T-72A T-62 and T-72A for comparison. The Steel Beast guys aren't perfect, but they know their armor and how its used. For a tank to be playable, they have to have access to the specs and usually the tank itself.
  18. You are correct. The rest of the battle sources were Iranian.
  19. What is most interesting is that Iran and Iraq were working with a lot of the same hardware represented in CMCW. Especially late in the war, you had T-72s, T-62s, and T-55s fighting each other. And some of the crews were more experienced in actual combat than any of the sides in CMCW.
