  1. That would make an excellent background for a combat mission game!
  2. Well, I guess it is threads like this one why the forum rules for the general discussion forum say that political discussions about ww2 are to be avoided. Maybe we should have such a rule in the CMx2 forum too.
  3. It set during Operation Bagration, so i guess summer '44.
  4. The Nazi regime. If Stalin had planned an attack on Germany and Hitler just had attacked first, this is the perfect justification for the German Operation Barbarossa. Saying this means defending Hitlers decision to invade Russia. Besides all of that, it is simply not true. There were no concret Soviet plans for an attack on Germany. The fact that both the USSR and the 3rd Reich both were equally inconvenient places to live in doesnt mean they are both equally responsible for starting the war.
  5. That is the most apologetic statement ever, supporting the "premtive strike theory" as justification for Barbarossa. In fact the USSR had never been seeking war with Germany.
  6. Sort of OT for this forum, but probably still intersting for some. Definately had been a surprise for me: Hopefully at least some of these weapons make it to the hands of museums or collectors. EDIT: filmed in Syria
  7. Yeah, thanks Combatintman. I absolutely loved your Operation Glacier scenarios. I am gonna download Op HRRICK 5 as soon as it is on the Repository.
  8. Some interesting non-combat footage from Syria: Remotely controled sniper rifle: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=fe8_1364361956 Huge (!) StG-44 stash found by FSA rebels: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=86f_1364442659 Several captured FSA tanks: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=0a9_1364509574 http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=007_1364890585 FSA captures military jets. I wonder if they are still operable: EDIT: The captured planes are armed L-39 Albatros jet trainers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aero_L-39#Syria
  9. Actually i was serious and thinking about the game mechanics when i wrote that. The ammo bearer gets killed. The shreck guy is out of shreck ammo, so he cant engage the tank. No infantry targets are in the area. So he startes to give the ammo bearer buddy aid.
  10. Haha. One time i was reading in a nazi forum (named "thaizi" IIRC) i accidentialy stumbeld accross and one of the guys there answeared to a thread wich was about "How do you celebrate Hitlers birthday?" that he buys himself a barrel of beer, takes a photo of the Führer, goes into a nearby forrest and drinks beer all day long, talking to the photo . Even his fellow comrades found that a bit, well, "unusual".
  11. Considering that the soviet soldiers in WW2 were defending their country against an unprovoked attack by an invader that was seeking to enslave and kill the russian people, they were on the moral highground, independent of their countries questionable political system.
  12. Hmm. At leat i was talking about the 1993 movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzYE5dlY28o Link above = full movie, german with polish subs.
  13. Another movie that came to my mind and that hasnt been mentioned yet: A Bridge Too Far Doesnt show the german perpective, but i found it still interesting because my grandfather was at Arnhem.
  14. Welcome! The Armchair General tactics tutorial is already a great start. Q: Do they still sell the older Combat Mission games? Where? A: http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=26&Itemid=26 Q: Where should I start with the newer games? A: This very much depends on your personal taste for the theatre and if you prefer modern day weapons or older stuff. My personal recommendation would be to get the free demos and see wich you like best. Q: Do I need the 2.0 version? A: From a technical point of view: No. Practically though i think that most potential multiplayer opponents have 2.0. I would recommend you to only get 2.0 if you like the base game. Q: I heard there was a 300 page manual. Is it worth it to purchase the physical copy or is that just a disc? A: I am sorry, i dont know. I only have the pdf manual. Q: Anything I should absolutely know before I dive headfirst into the series? A: CM can be kinda addictive. Also, be aware of these two pages that have hundereds of mods: http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/ http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314 Q: How strong is the multiplayer presence? Is the majority in a certain game? A: I personally dont play MP so i dont know for sure, but judging by the forum activity, i would say CMBN has the strongest MP scene. Q: Is there a "Must Have" mod for a particular game? A: All of Aris' HD textures/special effects for CMBN/CMFI. Euroscape is also a great mod for CMSF. You find all of them at the Repository.
  15. Or maybe the wounded ammo bearer just had all the remaining shreck rounds in his pocket and in order to get them the guy who had the shreck gave him buddy aid. But i like it too that troops behave more human in CM than in other games, this very much adds to an immersive gaming experience.
  16. Absolutely not! I am happy with any suggestion on good movies that show the german perspective. I looked up some trailers on youtube and i think i am gonna get Cross of Iron if i find it sommewhere. Thanks for the input. I think the political aspect of the war is important in movies that show the german perspective, the war generation was highly politicized. In fact, the war in the east was (also) seen as fight for survival between political systems. Besides that, "war is politics with different methods", to quote Clausewitz.
  17. Push. I would like to know if i am the only one who is not seeing any shells beeing loaded in the reloading animation.
  18. I do the same thing, but more in order to determine if there is anything that can fire upon the spot i had in mind for my mortars/MG than to check LOS (although i am doing that too, if i already have my scouts in position.). I agree with you on that aspect, undeployed guns should turn faster. Nope, what he said has to do something with his eyes. I have perfectly good eyesight and i dont have any problems in determining wether my guns are deployed or not.
  19. Hmm. My CMSF savegames are all in the Savegames folder. I am sorry but i am not sure if i can help you with that matter, seems odd to me that they arent there but are still displayed in the game. I ve heard that some of the newer windows versions (7 & 8) put files on different places on the HD than they display the user, so wich windows version are you running? Maybe it has got something to do with that. Concerning the TacOps game, i currently have already a PBEM going but i would like to come back to your offer when it is over. I would PM you then if that was okay.
  20. C:\.............\Combat Mission Shock Force\Game Files\Saved Games Your savegames are the .bts files located there. Select the file you want to delete and press SHIFT+DEL.
  21. You are not only the battallion commander in CMBN. You are every commander from the team leader up to the battallion commander.
