  1. If you dont mention wich scale you are using for comparision of the strings lenght every number greater than 0 is always a potentially correct answear.
  2. Yeah, but the hatches had also viewports on them. Would also make sense to have a viewport there so the crew can see what is outside in the immediate proximity of the tank before opening the side hatch. EDIT: Ah, okay. That was an unecessary post from me. At first i thought you said those were hatches instead of viewports, but: EDIT2: I just noticed that apearently the driver of the Pz IV also had side viewports.
  3. Maybe i am just too tolerant, but there are no game breakers in CMBN for me!
  4. The Panzer IV Ausführung A to G had viewports on the side of the turret that could be used by the loader for battlefield observation. They were removed after Ausführung H because the Seitenschürzen of this and later versions made them unecessary. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7e/Panzer_IV_1.jpg The left side of the turret has a viewport too. The same viewports can be found on the earlier Panzer III: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tmwmIrQp7WE/TvqF3adROuI/AAAAAAAADiY/e0uPPETk1CI/s1600/Pz3L_Panzer_3_Ausf_L_Bovington.jpg
  5. That is interesting. It means that the rebels are currently able to desroy the SAAs superior heavy weaponry (in this case mainly tanks and IFVs, but probably also aircraft and artillery), wich is the SAAs single most important advantage over the rebels on the battlefield, at a faster rate than it can be replaced by its logistics. I think it is the rebels intended strategy to 1) force the SAA to fight a war of attrition against a guerillia-like force in urban terrain, decimine its superior weaponary until a point is reached where the odds are even equipment wise and then 2) start to wage a conventional war against the remaining government forces. This would work under the circumstances that 1) the rebels can replace human losses faster than the SAA, 2) the amount of losses the SAA can inflict upon the rebels decreases with their loss of crucial equipment (for example tanks) and 3) the SAA cant replace lost crucial equipment at a high enough rate to make up for the rebels ability to replace human losses faster than the SAA The initially mentioned fact that the SAA seems for example to be unable to repair damaged tanks properly could be interpreted as an indication that the rebels strategy is working and that they are probably going to win the war. EDIT: Here is a detailed "strategical" map of the current conflict that is updated regularly (last update: 23rd March 2013): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Syrian_civil_war_detailed_map You get an interesting picture of the conflict if you take the below ethno-religious map and imagine it as an overlay over the above strategical map: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/cf/Syria_Ethno-religious_composition..jpg/701px-Syria_Ethno-religious_composition..jpg
  6. I recently started to hear voices whispering "Market Garden, Market Garden, Market Garden..." all the time. Doctor told me that this is an acute case of "Refresh Monkey Syndrom", where the brain is unable to deal with how badly a person wants an upcoming Battlefront.com game and thus compensates this with Schizophrenia-like symptoms. The Doctor also said that it might get better if any info about the game or screenshots of the beta are released... Anyways, when i left the doctors office, i had a prescription for Gustav Line in my pocket and i am supposed to play it at least for 3 hours each day (1 in the morning and 2 in the evening) after its release, as temporary substitute for the Market Garden module.
  7. You can do that, kind of. If you use a the mouse wheel for controling the camera elevation, go to the lowest possible elevation and then increase the camera elevation exactly by one level (one mousewheel "click") to the second lowest possible elevation. This is now the same elevation level as most tank turrets are.
  8. Would it - just in theory or maybe at some undefined point in the future - be possible to configure the CMx2 engine in a way that users could simply create their own toggles and simply command line combinations (scripts)? The HL2 engine for example lets you do this and back in the days i played CS:Source i was heavily using that feature. I am not a coder, so i have got no idea on how much effort this would take, but this would surely enhance the users ability to create mods and IMO the mod friendlyness of the CMx2 series is one of its best features - i love all stuff at the Repository!
  9. I know, the thing is i actually like and want Red Crosses most of the time i play. They only bother me sometimes when i turn the icons off and go to the lowest camera elevation level to watch the movie and enjoy all the little micro dramas.
  10. Well, i like it, even if there red crosses are still there. In general the vids really are making the time i know i am going to have to wait until i can play Gustav Line harder . Love the AA guns.
  11. I ve always asked myself what happens if incendiary rounds or tracer rounds penetrate an ERA block. I think one of the reasons the cinder blocks are placed on the tanks to replace lost ERA blocks is to make it harder for the rebels to find the weakspots in the tanks reactive armor. Considering the short ranges of urban combat, it would probably be possible to aim an RPG or a similar weapon at an unprotected area where the ERA block had been destroyed during a previous engagement. Considering the stressful environment i imagine a battlefield to be, it would probably be hard though to distinguish between and ERA block and a cinder block of the same size and colour. If you look at the more distant images of the tank in the vid Schmoly War posted, you will see that the cinder blocks fit into the pattern of the ERA armor quite well.
  12. Insha'Allah! - "God willing!" is a common term in the Islamic world.
  13. EDIT: There has already been a thread on the exactly same topic recently wich i overlooked: http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=109317
  14. Under Windows XP it is at HDD-name:\.......\Combat Mission Battle for Normandy\Data For example mine is at G:\Programme\Combat Mission Battle for Normandy\Data\Z. You could use the system integrated search of Windows to locate files btw. If you are using Windows XP, go to Start->Search and search for folders named "Data". You will probably get multiple results, open every folder to see if anything CMBN-ish (like patch files) is inside. And i am just saying (no offense or something like that intended), since it apears to me you are not very experienced with computers, you will have to extract the actual mod files from the.zip or.rar files you downloaded before you put them into the Data\Z folder in order to make them work. You can use programms such as winzip or winrar to do this.
  15. Not the exact same squad window configuration as shown in the picture, but very similar: http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=1203 It is a CMBN mod but you can use it with CMSF too. You can modify the order window window yourself easily, not much work. 10 mins or less. Look for a string.txt in the exploded CMSF files and replace the MOVE, QUICK, FAST, etc written in capitals with WALK, RUN, SPRINT etc. I tried it yesterday with a string.txt i took from CMBN and it worked for CMSF, but because it was a CMBN file it f***ed up the weapon names in CMSF, otherwise i would send it to you. EDIT: Havent tried it, but i think you should be able to use the string.txt from the file below. Saves you the time of searching it in the CMSF files. Just explode the brz and rename capitalized MOVE, QUICK, etc orders. http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=1727 No, i just like the sentence
  16. What you see on the screenshot is a mixture of several GUI mods. I can identify the following: http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=866 http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=996 and Bils icons. http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=1544 (Note that the icons above are supposed to be used with the NATO module - you will need to look for the other Bils icons for the other games.) The modded squad menu in the left corner of the control panel has similaritys with a a GUI mod for CMBN at the Repository. I cant remeber the name, but its something that starts with an N. I used that for a while with CMSF.
  17. I just finished watching part three. If you have already seen the first two and liked them, you should also watch the last part. But my overall rating for the whole series stays at 5/10, maximum.
  18. I am watching it right now and i can confirm that. Well, after watching the first two parts, i wanted to know how the story ended. After all, i give the series a 5/10. Besides all the bad stuff, it was at least a bit thrilling and it had some entertainment value. However if i was to recommend a german war movie to someone, it surely wouldnt be this one.
  19. Just googled a bit and found the following: "The Yugoslavian army used the MP44. One of the more extensively and systematic uses of the MP44 after the war, was in the Yugoslavian army, where it's said paratroops used the MP44 as the main handgun up to 1983. I am told that Tito gave Mr. Gadaffi (Libya) 40,000 MP44´s which trickled out to other countries." at http://claus.espeholt.dk/mp44.htm I have no idea how reliable that info is.
  20. Yeah that is an interesting question. Just checked out otherwise all-knowing Wikipedia and even there it says that it is unknown where these rifles came from. However it says that there that the FSA found up to 5000 StG-44 along with ammunation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StG_44#Post-1945 Where is John Kettler to investigate this?
