  1. Yeah but that is not the kind of order a real commander would give. The order would be: Setup on that ridge and shot at whatever approaches then back off to your next position. Not Setup on that ridge wait 30s precisely and then back off to your next position. I like @weapon2010's idea.
  2. What, news to me. I have been running that way since you guys issued the first patch. And Steve has it as part of his recommended usage (see item 2):
  3. Good idea. I have been using them for mouse holing so I will add this to the list of uses.
  4. Oh that sounds good. So, you added a hunt order and a target command at the end. Then the HT spotted the gun right away and still fired. Do I have that right? Sounds like that will work for spotted targets but not for area fire.
  5. Plus one there, it is down right painful playing a new game before the new version of your mod is available. Hears hoping BFC takes you up on your suggestion.
  6. And before anyone asks we all expect all those little game tweaks like this to be on the coming 2.1 patch for the base game. Just like BFC always does.
  7. LOL, sure no problem, as soon as I saw he had an ATI card I knew...
  8. No way, what I was using it for and showed in this tip is a partial workaround for a short coming / defect in the action square system. Yes, I realize other things could be done with it that were bad. I still hope that this problem is addressed some day - preferably soon.
  9. Glad it helped, I did not mean you when I talked about being argumentative, I meant the tone of the thread I linked.
  10. From the 2.1 read me Bummer, because that means this technique will no longer work. I understand it was done for good reason but I am still bummed that my work around will not work any more.
  11. We had a recent discussion about this and it turns out that it has everything to do with graphics cards. Check this out: http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=111242 Forget the argumentativeness and just read about the solution - it might work for you.
  12. If you miss handle it - yes it could. Copy your current install and upgrade the copy then play out your current PBEM games with the 2.01 game and start new ones with your new 2.1 install. Just remember after the copy to remove your mods for the upgrade and then figure out what mods work after that.
  13. Remind your opponents to run with two version of the game. One left alone like you have now and continue to play your PBEM with it. Make a copy and upgrade the copy with MG and 2.1 and start new games with that. Then you have no problems with PBEM games. Since I am not a privileged customer I have time on my hands I just discovered I have five CMBN installs and I am only using 2. Oops, Clean up time and then I will make a copy of my 2.01 install in order to upgrade it when I am allowed to make my purchase. BFC has an official description here: http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=107758
  14. No you cannot order the firing of rifle grenades. You can order a squad to fire at a target and *not* fire rifle grenades - Target Light does that. Against tanks - they can work but they are not a very reliable way to take out tanks. I do not usually consider squads who still have rifle grenades as my first choice for AT duty. Not sure about effective range. The good news is they work just as well if your guys can hit their target from 100m as the do from 50m. What does the manual say? I usually just let the pixel troops pick their targets and do their own thing with rifle grenades.
  15. Nope not yet:D I am going to forget the refresh monkeys and go straight to trunk monkeys (or at least watch some trunk monkey videos while I wait): http://www.suburbanautogroupnews.com/trunk-monkey-videos/
  16. Oooo exciting. Of course "soon" could mean that Steve is watching the upload bars progressing and writing bad poetry to pass the time. Or it could mean that the devs are working on some nasty bug and they have to do another round and "soon" is next week. Meanwhile Steve is writing bad poetry while he waits for the devs to give him some news. Personally I suspect the former and predict a release today.
  17. Yeah, as much as I am looking forward to the MG release playing 2.01 is loads of fun. This is a much better wait than for CMBN 1.0 Plot the blast command along the bocage on our side (instead of through it). Then they will not go through. You should still give them a fast or quick command to move further away from the hole after the blast but they should all stay on your side of the bocage. You, only get credit for the objective if you have guys on it and you clear all of your enemy off of it.
  18. The way it works is they (I'm talking about legitimate betting here not anything bent) set the odds as the bets come in. The odds change so that they end up with a balanced book. No mater the out come they can pay the winners from the looser money. The bookies make their money on a portion of each bet. Check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bookmaker#Operational_procedures Back to those unpredictable humans again.
  19. The trouble with the bookies is they set the odds based on what the betters believe. They are not really trying to predict anything. Where as economists try to figure out what is really going on. I am not an economist but I really enjoy hearing about their way of tackling problems. I just finished listening to a pod cast talking about how poor the quality of predictions are. Mostly due to the fact it costs nothing to make a prediction and if you get it wrong your prediction is forgotten but when you get one right everyone remembers it. It was interesting to hear the ideas for improving the quality of predictions.
  20. I'm not sure what targets I would ignore. Can you give an example when this would be useful?
  21. OK I went digging into the archives to find the timing of those pre-order spoiler messages and the delta until everyone is officially given access. I found reference to BFC's policy of saying that everyone who pre-ordered will get up to a 36 hours head start. None of the delays were longer than 24 hours. Most were within the same business day. The only one that actually caused any significant delay in a person's ability to play was the Gustav Line release where the pre-order people got to download it in the evening and the rest of us got access the next morning. Which meant that if you were working you had to wait almost a full day to play. So, my memory sucks and I apologize. Here is the data I got from the forums along with a bonus prediction of the MG release date: The length of time from the game announcement to release varies wildly. The length of time from when pre-orders are available until release is a bit less wild. With a standard deviation of 11 days that gives us a range of release between October 6th and October 28th. If we we drop the CMBN release data from the sample (it is the oldest and most different from the last three releases) then we get a standard deviation of just over 3 days which gives us a date range for release of MG between October 7th and October 14th. Looks like we are in the range now whichever way you look at it. I predict a release date of October 8th.
  22. I think you will get a better response to this on the support forum: http://www.battlefront.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=138 All my install questions have been answered there. I recommend clarifying if you are missing all the scenarios and campaigns or if you are missing the scenarios and campaigns you added to your install from the Repository.
  23. Are BFC changing their policy then? They usually notify those who pre-orded to say they can download and then between 1 and n days later open it up for the rest of us riffraff. Ian
