  1. LOL I find it useful when trying to figure out where the guy with the MG42, the Bren or the BAR is lying in a heap so I can go help him. Yeah, help him, that's it. That's the ticket.
  2. Ahhhh, touchy? I don't see anyone being touchy. Asking what is the point of this thread based on what the OP said is totally legit. It is a very strange thread but we have some how managed to have a somewhat interesting discussion anyway. Should we be concerned that you have that as a point of reference
  3. I recommend just playing RT if that is what interests you. The reason it has not been discussed much is most likely because it is not a serious problem. It's a mole hill step over it
  4. Right now if you hover the mouse over the soldier's weapon icon in the lower UI window the base of the solider on the battlefield pulses and the text in the lower left of the window changes from green to white. That happens weather or not you are using Vin's mod. It lest you know who is who and what they are doing.
  5. OH good - I am playing a scenario right now with these vehicles in it. The look a bit odd matched up against my other modded vehicles.
  6. Yep, same. When I play I usually just take down written notes in the notes field of Whose Turn Is It? (which is my turn management program). LOL good thing no one came and knocked on your door then.
  7. Plus if you hit one and it happens to crash on map - you see that too. OK you see the explosion and the crater but never the air frame. Still pretty cool though.
  8. The way I read Sly's comments was that we are not going to see BFC go dark for years and release a big all encompassing game while simultaneously leaving the last one to become obsolete, any more. In effect you guys are saying the same thing. That's how I read his earlier comments anyway.
  9. Only you can make that decision but I for one stopped beginning new games in CMBB the day CMBN came out. I finished the games that were on going but never looked back or fired it up again. I don't miss it at all. The play in the new CM2x titles is that much more appealing to me.
  10. Indeed making a good map can be quite a bit of fun and is very doable - especially since you can make it for H2H and therefore have no AI or briefing to deal with. However one reason people might not be making them might be that they just are not board with what was shipped yet. I know we hear people wishing for more QB maps but I have no particular motivation to create more because personally I am not the least bit board with what shipped yet. Just my theory - could be total crap and people are just scared of map creating.
  11. Oh man I miss read your original post - no a panzerfaust is very unlikely to hit at 135m. At that distance the team will probably not fire it at all even if you target the tank manually. They are best at under 30m.
  12. No there is no unlicensing needed. In fact it will remember that you already activated after your reinstall.
  13. 1) yes and no What I mean is if you have a team at the edge of a barrage you are best to move them out of the barrage. If you have a team that is in it moving will likely be bad for them. What I do is look at where the rounds have already fallen an any teams that appear on the edge I high tail out of there. Anyone else I give a hidden order to. Things like AT guns that cannot move quickly just get a hide order. In your case I would hide the gun and the HQ. The HQ will be very sad hidden, unless as you said a round ends up on there side of the borage. As for the other two teams make your decision based on if you think they are in the barrage or on the edge. That's my advice Edited - my mistake I confused the faust and the shrek. What I said originally is relavant to the Shrek. 2) no, while the faust will do a number to the tank at any range it is extremely unlikely to hit at that range. In fact I do not thing the team will fire at distance if if you told them to. <original> 2) yes a hit from one of those at any range is really not good and nearly a guaranteed kill, nearly. Hitting at 135m is reasonably likely. When I give Shrek teams armor cover arcs I usually make them 125m and then decide manually to target stuff out to 150m depending on how important it is or the likelihood the enemy tank will get closer of not. </original> Rifle grenades will also likely be bad news for a Stuart to but you need to be closer than 135m, but I think you already are. I will confirm to pretend not to know where your guys are but as a rule tanks don't lead so the chances are good that your men will meet my infantry first. I am a little nervous that some of your defenders can see those tanks. I thought I was doing a good job of keeping them back. Oops but like I said I pretend all is well.
  14. Yeah, to this day that is the only scenario I have played more than once against the AI. Outside of testing of course.
  15. Good links, since we are doing shameless plugs here is mine http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/5165/details There are equivalent versions for the other game titles.
  16. I think a lot has been made of the "if you split all the squads in a platoon it becomes unmanageable". Without splitting squads I find it quite manageable to give sensible orders in two or three mouse clicks to platoons. In the CM2x games before contact that is the way I operate - so no extra work there. But you are right when they get into contact it takes more time and I spend more time. However it is extra time I find I am happy to pay because the results visually, realistically and immersively are so much better in CM2x. So in short, I personally, do not find the effort controlling troops out of contact to be significantly higher and I find that the extra effort when they are in contact to be well worth it. Which is why I no longer pay CM1x games and I play CM2x a lot. Clearly other people feel differently, which is fine by me. Those people should just not expect a warm reception showing up in the CM2x forums trying to push that CM1x games are better. Indeed with all the criticism of the AI in CM2x it is significantly better than the AI in the CM1x games.
  17. Well I don't have sales data either but I have access to some play data. That play data I have shows nothing of the sort. CM2x is being played more often over at theBlitz - a lot more in the past year (this is March to March data - I know, it just is): Some additional details of note: In the first year it was CMBN vs all the CM1x titles (with CMBB and CMAK nearly equal). In the past year each CM2x title came out on top of their CM1x analog for the first time. These numbers were from before CMBS was released so it is not counted and any effect it might have on WWII play has not occurred yet.
  18. Do you mean pull up, in your super fast sports car, to your air conditioned trainer in the middle of the Nevada desert fire up the control panel and go fly over some town on the other side of the world looking for enemy armour and strong points and then obliterate them with the flick of a switch? I think the first version of that scenario from CMSF sounds more fun as a game.
  19. I hope someone who is a Mac expert will come along and explain how to find the manual. The ammo bearers need a vehicle to get ammo from. Most trucks and half tracks have a supply of ammo. If you have the ammo bearers mount the vehicle then there will be a acquire command on the special menus. Buddy aid is automatic but you need to leave soldiers still in the same location as the fallen and they will only buddy aid if they are not believe shot at.
  20. I don't think so. A mission ends when the time runs out, one side surrenders or both sides agree to a cease fire (the AI will all ways agree if you ask) That's if.
  21. Correct it is not separately listed. I am not sure why. Any unit with grenades can conduct a close assault and take out a tank using regular grenades too it is just really dangerous for them.
  22. I don't have a Mac but on the PC version the manual is a PDF in the install folder and there are two manuals the engine manual and the game manual. As for your other questions... Ammo bearers actually do carry much of the ammo for their support weapons. So if you loose then you will loose a lot of their ammo. Another thing to note is that the weapon uses the ammo from the ammo bearers first so you can send them to fetch more and the MG can keep firing witness it's own supply. There are no dedicated medics in the game but other soldiers can perform first aid, buddy aid, when they do that they collect ammo and weapons that they can use. If you are reading Bil's blog you are well on your way to learning how to beat the AI.
  23. I'll have a look to confirm but I recall an access road right after the hedge hogs, so they might not need to breach back. Between the two teams they have loads of charges.
