  1. yeah, i am really enjoying it. Except for my first playthrough >.< I had 2 M1s taken out by a single T-90 and the other two became bogged on the reverse side of that big old hill on the left side of the map where they could provide no support whatsoever! Argggg 2nd time went better however Great job, I am enjoying it even more than Armour Attacks, which btw, i enjoyed a helluvalot.
  2. or you could just have a guy pop outta the rear hatch and fire it
  3. well, although ADA would be included in real life, we are assuming that the US has complete air superiority, so they really have no purpose in the game. One of my favorite ADA units is the Italian OTO- Melara Otomatic. It uses a single 76mm cannon to blast helicopters and missiles out of the sky.
  4. I had a VBIED take out three AAVs in one go once. They were all parked in a staging area and the car just drove up and blasted all three of them. Made me very angry.
  5. OK, to be fair, it even says in the manual that the Syrians WILL lose this hypothetical war. I agree with Taki, the Syrians are worse than the Americans (and soon to be British ) in every way, however, they can still inflict some serious hurt on them. The Syrians are using outdated equipment, outdated tactics, and outdated tactical doctrines. They are fighting the most technically advanced military in human history that is filled with well trained, well motivated individuals who are extremely proficient at what they do, so i think its safe to assume that the Syrians are inferior. However, the Syrians are not worthless. They simply fight a different kind of war than the US military. If you try to fight an M1 with some T-72s and 2000 yards, you will probably lose every time. If you try to engage American infantry at 800 years, you will probably lose every time. While playing Red, if you fight on the enemy's terms, which in this case is a long ranged conflict where they can simply blast or arty you into submission, your battle will end in humiliating defeat. That being said, the Red forces fight a different type of war. They are obligated to do so by the massive technological and training benefits that the American military provides. That type of war is an up-close and personal, short ranged ambush strategy. At 200 meters, that 4 million dollar M1 Abrams isn't that much different than a T-62. All the American technological benefits go flying out the window as soon as they close with your forces. So playing smart, the Red forces are just as effective at killing as the US. Now, about morale: The game is supposed to be realistic, not fair. Many of the Red troops are conscripts or troops levied from their homes against their will. Plus they also know what i said in my first paragraph: that they are facing the military that is best at killing them. This, understandably makes them frightened, before the shooting even starts. In relation to your example, I get the feeling that many of us who are not trained soldiers, if conscripted, would be crawling on the ground if 40mm grenades were whizzing over our heads too.
  6. i just had the wierdest thing happen to me. My M1 came over a ridge, and only 150 meters away was a T-72 TURMS-T. The M1 aquired and fired a HEAT round right into the side of the T-72, but nothing happened. The T-72 casually turned its turret and blasted the M1 in the front, which burst into flames and only 2 men of the crew survived. Iv'e never had this happen before.... Pissed me off....
  7. M1A1 Abrams- Arguably the best MBT in the game, the M1 can be described as an armor killing beast. From my experience, the sweet spot for M1s is between 2000 and 3000 meters. I describe it as the "standoff range". This far out, the M1 can kill basically everything it hits with the exception of perhaps the T-72,or T-90 (are they even in the game). And basically any rounds in return will bounce harmlessly off its armor, except again, the T-72. it carries plenty of ammo for the cannon, and can swivel the turret, acquire the target and fire faster than almost any MBT. it reloads very quickly and can destroy multiple targets within a minute. I have had a single M1 "pin down" an entire platoon of T-62s for several minutes, before all the enemy tanks were destroyed. However, at anything beyond 3000 meters, the M1 can probably hit if stationary, but the round has lost a large portion of its energy, so it probably will not achieve much more than light damage. It can kill anything almost without exception within 1000 meters with one round, but it also becomes vulnerable to anything bigger than a T-55. The M1 is ridiculously bad in urban settings, and can be taken out by almost everything. The engine compartment is especially vulnerable. I have found that the M1's infantry killing ability is a bit lacking, unless they are out in the open or pinned in a building. it has 3 machine guns, 2 50 cal ( i think) and a 7.62mm on the side, although i have never seen it used by the gunner. This is quite a bit of firepower, however, the crew must be unbuttoned to use 2/3 of the anti-infanty weapons, and as far as I know, the Army's future canister round for the M1 is not in the game. Just like any armored vehicle, unbuttoning in urban conditions is a really, really bad idea, because then anyone armed with a pistol on up can kill the commander and make the tank much more inefficient. only unbutton at range so the commander can use his MG for suppressing fire. in short, the m1 is best used in an overwatch position to cover the infantry's advance and to eliminate any armored threat you encounter. Keep it away from the fighting unless it is completely necessary, and be careful even then.
  8. shut yo mouth.... but he's talkin bout shaft, so we can dig... srry, couldn't help it
  9. I for one have actually really enjoyed the Marines campaign... I'm really happy that i spent my 25$ on the marines module. I think everyone needs to chill out and stop bashing the BFC guys. Remember, without them, there would be no game to play anyway.
  10. Iv'e had this sort of problem with almost evey ATGM at some point or another. Usually, they work fine, however, every once in a while, for no apparant reason the missile will simply slam into the ground a few hundred meters away.
  11. exactly....just what I was about to say.
  12. I am really looking forward to putting Challenger IIs and M1s firing at each other when brit module comes out. This map should be a good place to do it. Good work.
  13. Yeah, i am doing my first "real" scenario, a big 4000x2000 tank battle called Battle for Orion Ridge. It is a lot harder than I expected. It takes forever, mainly because it takes about 15 minutes to load when i go to 3D Preview to check out my handiwork. I havn't even begun to mess with the AI, units, missions, briefings, ect. So, thanks to you all for spending so much time for the likes of us.
  14. I was really enjoying it until I got cocky, thinking I had destroyed all enemy resistance, and marched 2nd squad across some open ground towards the objective. All of them were WIA or KIA in about 10 seconds after a heavy MG opened up on them >.< Ill start it over tomorrow. Still, great work, its a refreshing change from the massive, armor-centered scenarios ive been playing lately.
  15. I was wondering how realistically ERA (explosive reactive armor) is modeled in game. I haven't been able to test it yet, but i was wondering what you all have found so far. My question is twofold: A. Does ERA have its own animation , so that as a round strikes it, there is a secondary explosion from the explosive liner? Also, once this has occurred, is the ERA from that area physically gone, or simply abstracted to make it more vulnerable now that that portion of the ERA has been used? B. Are the secondary effects of ERA (eg. infantry near the tank are injured when the ERA goes off) simulated in game? This is important i think because in real life ERA can cause serious injury to anyone standing nearby when it goes off. Thanks
  16. yeah, that does help. Ive been messing around with it a bit and it is becoming somewhat easier. Thanks
  17. I know this is quite the noob-ish question, but i can't seem to figure out how to use the elevation tools from CMSF. I am so used to the CX1 version that i dont understand this one. I was wondering if any of you guys have any tips or guides about how to use the different terrain elevation tools:D. Thanks
