  1. @ WB, I had the same question about the 2nd part of the question as HvS. I wanted to make sure it meant keeping troopers back and trading territory for lives. As for the whole question, both parts are being looked at for version 1.03 from what I understand. The 2nd part can be changed by scripting ala Blashy's mod, the 1st part is internal coding that we cannot change. Another part you will notice is all the Allied troops that hang out in Africa the whole game. For the USA, that means about 1/3 her ground force that goes to Africa and stay in Africa. Many things being looked at for the next update.
  2. On the scale of this game I would put the Panther over the Tiger. The speed they move would make the Panther more valuable on this map. The kill distance of the Panther was also higher than the Tiger. 75mm vs 88mm, yes, but the Panther's gun had a flatter trajectory. 1944 on, Panthers were used in divisonal formations, while Tiger were organized into Heavy Tank compannies and used for corps attachments. So, from my random thoughts, Pz IV and Panthers would be main battle tanks, and Tigers would be used to overstrength a unit.
  3. For what its worth, I like your mod Blashy. Legends like Member #10987 need to stand on the mountain, and ponder important stuff. I am also guessing wins in general won't matter too, wins vs. certain names will count more.
  4. The weather matches what I would expect in Russia, and comes close to what the huge game Fire in the East, or hmm, can't remember the name, the massive one from SPI. Weather was a consideration for the Summer offensive of '42 for Germany.
  5. German level 4 is Tigers, level 5 is Panthers. The Soviet level 4 and 5 are identical, except for the alignment thingy. The Soviet 4 and 5, is the the JS II model?
  6. Made it to July 1942. The attrition rate is a bit much to keep up. I had it up to 194 Russians K.O.'d to 11 German, but then it was trying to hold back a tidal wave, couldnt keep up. Only reason I made it so far was by taking Moscow. Manstein had it right by saying taking Moscow would eliminate the only main rail junction for the Soviets and make a large coordinated attack possible, if this scenario is any indicator. I did not take Kharkov in the south, we kept slugging it out between Kiev and Kharkov until I ran out of oomph and he kept bringing units in. Time to look at it from the Soviet perspective.
  7. Thanks for the reply, I thought I was missing something. So many Russians, so little time. Hmm, I feel it is about right playing against the computer. I have many German corps understrength that are garrisoning cities until I can get them replacements. But I am hording money and have 1200 MPP to use (2 turns worth, getting about 600 in Nov. 1941). 6 supply I think is perfect. You can have units reinforce to full strength, but operations are limited unless you have an HQ nearby. My advances are pretty historical. I did not divert my panzers south, I made a bee-line for Moscow, and took it in early November. Leningrad fell about the same time too. Army Group South has had a rough go without any support, and I am at the outskirts of Kharkov Dec. '41. If I diverted AG Center's tanks south, I think I would be very close to where I should be histoically. Way too much bombing in 1941. Berlin sits at 1, and several other cities at 2. Let me see what happens going into 1942. I was going to try and put some money into tech, but I think I will spend it all getting men into my units. Oh, I do think the German Panzers are very godlike in offensive manuevers, which is they way it should be. Against any competent human opponent, Russia should trash the tanks and overwhelm the Germans without too much difficulty. Maybe somehow upping the defense so they take a few less losses to keep them operationally strong and not having to refit them as often. We can debate that one of course, as most actions had 50% of tanks out of action within the 1st 3 days of any operation in Russia.
  8. If you want to include them all, then yes, 3 STR fleets would be a good compromise. They would be cannon fodder for any Germany fleet presence unless Stalin wants to spend money on ships, which won't happen most games.
  9. I just think the scale is wrong to include 4 warships for USSR in the Baltic. Corps/divisional level, no problem, it works. 1 BB and 1 CA do work best at this scale. Just have 1 ship for each, and give them a joint name. Bah, was going to type a long thing about BB's but really no need. WW I era ships fully loaded with Stalin era seaman should have crappy attack and defense values.
  10. This mod is very fun! The AI plays me to a stalemate if I lose focus on strategy. Lot of thought went into this and there are many subtle aspects that change the way it plays. I would like to see most changes adapted for update 1.03.
  11. I am playing vs computer, Expert +2, and have not looked at what the Soviets get. I keep killing and killing and killing, and I an going into winter '41, and I am wondering if there will ever be a slowdown of Russian unit. Kills are 124 to 4 so far. I am tempted to boot up a Soviet game to get a feel of what they are like, but I am going to try and play this German one to conclusion before looking at the Commies. Very well done! The opening reminds me of Eastern Front, an old game for the Atari done by Chris Crawford. Uses the same scale as this, but a lot cruder as a game 20 years ago should be.
  12. Yep. Playing Blashy now as Axis, and I think I am slightly intimidated. That was the worst showing I have given with the Italian Navy vs. anyone. Good luck Jolly, give 'em hell.
  13. This looks absolutly incredible! I wish I knew what F&F means (Free and French?). The sig, "=FR3DO= & =F@B= " means something to do with Frodo, so that means Lord of the Rings to me. I need the Sledgehammer of Obviousness dropped on my head. I would love to play around with this in an alpha state to look for bugs.
  14. Honch's mod goes up to China, and has a spot for Japan to come west, but does not have the Pacific Theatre of Operations. There is a mod for Pacific still in testing stages, and it's release is behind schedule at the moment.
  15. Funny, I thought SC2 was just released. You will still be waiting two years from now.
  16. Oh, I do play at max settings, and yep, all the problems are out of your control. This, I do know, so that means I really dont see anything wrong with your mod . Expect the 1st turn soon.
  17. Game 1 as Axis, I went with a vanilla strategy, playing it similar to history. The mod has played out well, with the only qualms I have have been with AI. Africa, I put the Albanian corps on Amphib assault duty to land and take out the fort at El Alamein, but to my surpise Alexandria was left open, so I landed there! I didnt go whole hog wild and load up Germans down there, and the AI eventually pushed me back, even though I was at the river line at Alexadria. I eventually abandoned Africa to see what the AI would do, and there were several problems at that point. - British Air Corps fell in love with bombing the port of Ikilion and did so for 4 years. - All Allied troops that entered Africa, stayed in Africa. that amounted to about 11 ground pounderd and 3 air. - Something else I am forgetting, but will play again to update. Good things: Russian AI much stronger. If I was more focused I could have taken USSR, but they played a good game. I had to back away from Stalingrad and the oil fields from concentrated Russian assaults on my flank Oh, that was another thing, I was back at the Don River line, and Maikop stayed in Axis hands the rest of the game. Russia never moved back in Maikop. Allies had good coordinated assualt in 1944. Amaerica lands in strength and Russia attacks heavily to keep me pinned down. Some other things: I think USA didnt do Lend Lease after I sunk a few transports. Never got a single sub hit from 1943 on. After game was over, US had 3,500 MPP sitting in her pool, and USSR had 900. Oh, Allies left MPPs in technology that were maxxed out. Blashy, interested in doing a PBEM game starting soon to see how it plays? I think I read you want some Axis oppenents for this game. email: scook_99@msn.com
  18. Best way to solve the deep drop problem is to have them taken away from the force pool if they die while supply is 0. Drop both Germans deep and lose them, have no more builds from the Force pool. Old 3rd Reich rule.
  19. So, if you are stopping play of SC2, what are you playing instead? I won't try to convince someone to like a game if they don't, just let me in on what you are playing. Prsonally, I like SC2 more than SC1, and it has to do with the editor 100%. The AI does have some big flaws, but some of the AI written so far has been fun. Blahsy's mod has been a hoot to play, the one mod of the world out to India (THANK YOU!) is great, really reminds me of playing World in Flames, and the Eastern Front scenario at corps level will soon occupy some of my time. So, if you don't like SC2, I would like to know what else you are playing so I can check those out too. If they are that much better, I want to know. Scook...... ps. I will be revving up to some pvp out there. Just trying to polish myself so I dont look like a complete fool when I play a....LEGEND!
  20. I am not sure what name the weather zone is (1 of 19 weather zones in game, correct?) but I think it should have a longer winter period. Beginning of Fall should be heavy chance of rain, snow should start in November. Historically, the rain slowed the Germans into November, then a light freeze hit, letting the Nazis continue their drive on Moscow, then the real bad snow began (I think) November 28th. About one week later, the Soviet offensive began. Incidentally, 1941 was one of the coldest winters on record. BTW, Blashy, your mod is playing great! I need to get about a 1/2 dozen gsmes in before I give you some bugs and good feedback, but I am enjoying it so far.
  21. That's a really good thing. I think that's how USSR would react.
  22. Is the USA in the war yet, or what is she sitting at?
  23. To clarify just a bit more, if USSR is not in the war (which usually happens after Germany DoW's her), she will only be able build units, and play with the tech tree. If you DoW'd Baltic States early in the game as Allies, then most likely you have declared war with Britain, France(if she is still a nation), and any of Britain's minor allies. Only those Allied nations will be able to enter and attack the Baltic States at that time. An easy way to tell who is in the war and who is not is to look at the diplomacy screen. If your name is there (USA 51%, USSR 86%, etc.) then that country is still neutral and cannot DoW anyone.
  24. "Elements of the 389th Infantry Division set up secon after the Russian 308th units: Kampfgruppe Stahler - deploy in buildings U3, T4, R7, T7; Kampfgruppe Tienham - deploy in buildings Y8, CC7, AA4; Co A Assault Engineer Battalion 50 (Greup) deploy in buildings AA4, CC3, Y8" I havent played Squad Leader in, ulp, 22 or so years now. Is this from the original package and the scenario of storming the Tractor Works, Sept-Oct, 1942? I read these words, and get goosebumps like a ghost from my past.
