  1. To answer your question, yes majors can get the variable big hit. I am playing a friend in Honch's mod, and it has too many mpp's when I play him. If there is something improbable that could happen, he has a penchant of doing it. He took Spain from 25% to Entering the War in 2 turns. He took the USSR from 30% to 0% in one turn. He had both USA and USSR in the war by September 1940. We are talking a 5% chance backed by a 5% chance, so something like a 1 in 400 shot. But 5 games in a row, this has happened to me. Yes, I am getting irritated. Normal human beings won't have quite this luck, but I have had a stretch of it for several games in a row, and it's not what I would call fun. Now that I have vented, I feel better. Thanks for your patience Sean Cook
  2. As most games I have played, diplomacy can affect the outcome more than military might, and at a fraction of the cost. If it isn't Spain or Turkey, chits drop into USA and USSR, and can impact the outcome in too dramatic a fashion. I like having diplo, however, and it does provide variance to what can become a stagnant game. Some thoughts I have been working with: 1) Double the number of chits, leave the cost the same per chit, and halve the % chance per chit. This will make diplo 2X as costly, but it still will be available. 2) Lower the % of change on major coutry hits only. Briinging USA and USSR to 65% in June of 1940, or taking USSR to 0% in 1939 is as good as conquering a major nation. Yes, when entry hits 0 that country gets 0 MPP. 3) Drop Spain to 25%, and change the Axis minors to make their entry for Germany based at 25% instead of 40%. 15% can be an additional 1-2 hits to get them in. 4) Limit the number of chits you can have on a country to 2-3. That will make it easier to block in one sense, and it will also have you spread chits out for more differing results. There are a myriad of choices, and leaving it as is can be one option. I think it is worth discussing at length as some major gambits involve this aspect.
  3. Ok have another one: [08/02/2006 1:21:48] FAILED(amphibious_transports_within_range_of_coastal_position): Segmentation violation [08/02/2006 1:21:48; 5.1.2600; 1024x768x32(1); v1.02] FAILED(animate_amphibious_transport_move_and_unload): Segmentation violation [08/02/2006 1:23:12] FAILED(amphibious_transports_within_range_of_coastal_position): Segmentation violation [08/02/2006 1:23:12; 5.1.2600; 1024x768x32(1); v1.02] FAILED(animate_amphibious_transport_move_and_unload): Segmentation violation Did it twice, so it's repeatable on a save I have. do you have this one covered, or should I send you the save game? Edit: this is from the 1941 Scenario, if that makes a difference. [ August 02, 2006, 01:47 PM: Message edited by: Scook ]
  4. Boooo, Rambo can move on Rostov from both sides.
  5. I had one of my cruisers parked on the Kerch Straights, and in an email game, a german corps moves into the square, ship vanishes, not even a thank you. I have the saved turn and the very last thing is the ship being overrun, if that helps any. However, all my saved turns up to that point are gone.
  6. I had a German vessel with morale at 0. It was air attacked, took 0 losses, and the A/C took a hit. Morale went up to 2%. This seemed like an anomoly, but I thought I should put this in here.
  7. LOL, I just thought how well SC2 can convert to a fantasy setting, Lord of the Rings included. Flying slots taken up by wizards who can teleport over a distance. It really is amazing how the editor is affecting people who want to build a better mouse trap.
  8. I think we are evolving far enough to have another type of unit, naval bombers. SC1 didn't need it as much as SC2 does, now that naval action can be a huge part of the game.
  9. It's close, real close. A very fine line between a swing one way or the other, and balance.
  10. After the 1st few turns it was only 4 units dying a turn. However thats only because there were no russians to throw under the treads, and cities were falling faster than Russians. This one is over, AH has his visions come true, world dominated.
  11. August 10, Russian casualties number 1.6 million after 6 weeks of fighting. We do estimate German losses would fill out approximately 15 divisions. Kiev falls, troops from Odessa rail out of a near encirclement. No form of a cohesive front exists on the Russian side. If it weren't for partisans and long supply lines, German tanks would be all along the Volga.
  12. 22nd and 44th Armies attack and stall 39th Panzer. Losses are heavy on both sides, so action tapers off until reinforcements can come up. Peasants in front of Moscow dig trenches as new troops come up. Street fighting in Kiev is heavy, as 2 Panzer corps and 4 infantry corps move to encircle the city. Odessa Front is the only successful area for Russian propaganda. Retreats from the Romanians are orderly. No rain in site, just heading into August.
  13. 2nd Tank army is having fun at the Romanian's exspense. the invaders are a looong way from odesa, don't believe all the propaganda. Some new armies show up, and help in the defense of Smolensk and Kiev. Who they are is meaningless right now except as historical footnotes in German history books. Sidenote: Russian bombers mistakenly bomb one of our own cities right before Germans occupy it. The idea of Scorched Earth takes fire in the hearts of the Russia people.
  14. 4th Tank army duels 48th Pz. Korps on the outskirts of Kiev, 400 Soviet tanks are destroyed, but they take about 150 German tanks with them. Soviet scientists agree the T-26 has now been officially "phased out in flames." 2nd and 3rd Pz. Armies have merged and are at the outskirts of Vitebsk and Smolensk. Our intelligence has determined lack of supply is slowing the advance more than our troops. Stalin has the intelligence officers shot so the information does not leak out and demoralize our men even more. Witch doctors have been hired to make rain happen in a godless way. More to come.....
  15. There is virtually no forces between Germany and the interior of Mother Russia. 37 different formation have been put down, that's 40% of the entire starting army. Soviets do a makeshift defense at Kiev, 1) because it's an old historical fortress and the gateway to the Ukraine, and 2) there are no trains to catch heading east. Romainian front has been slow for the Axis, as they have no tanks in the are.
  16. Shell shocked troops fall back towards Kiev in the south. There are no troops to be shell-shocked in the central and north. Reserves move to Pskov to slow down Hun invaders heading to Leningrad. Cities in the crucial Orsh gap are being garrisoned. Beginning of July, 1941, Joseph Stalin pleades to the masses to fight the unholy indader at every turn. Russia mobilizes its manpower.
  17. On all Fronts Pandemoneum ensues. There is no command, there is no control. Russians flee eastward like animals running from fire. Nazi invaders crush almost all units in their path. Some corps along the front counter attack and take losses greater than they cause. This could be ugly.
  18. Send the save turn again without the latest version. From what I understand only the source (you) needs to have the game. I am supposed to be doing an online game within an hour already. I don't have ICQ, but guess I will go get it. We will work this out. The Great Patriotic war cannont be held down by Imperialist Internet connections. Too bad Al gore stole the idea from the real creator of the internet, Mikael Kristinuv.
  19. Hmmm, I am still looking in my email for the 1st turn. Technical difficulties........
  20. Watching "The Green Berets" for inspiration while waiting for the 1st turn to be sent. While watching DirecTV, I get a phone call from my Unlce Joe. Babbling some nonesense about losing half his tanks and aircraft to his German pals. I ask if he has lost half his marbles, tell him I will get back to him, AFTER I watch this John Wayne flick.
  21. Nazi Dog!!!! quit peeing on my Russian treads.
  22. If it helps, I had a ship from a mod last night at 0 morale. He was air attacked, and his morale went up to 1% (I think I won the battle). Freak occurence, I am guessing.
  23. I play on my laptop through a wireless network. I cannot host because of that, so if a crash occurs we have to go back to the last turn my friend has on his comp. If I have SC2 minimized and he ends the turn, I will get I/O connection error, 100% of the time. There is some good info on setting up through a firewall in the manual, I did that with a wired connection and it seemed to work fine that way. Oh, post this concern in the tech section too. It will get noticed a lot quicker.
