This is why I say the developer's should have an override button whereby the driver will not drive off and allow the Truck to dismount. Instead if he feels threatened by Annihilation he will bail out of the vehicle while the dismount order is being carried out.

    Nope.

With all due respect, if you are driving softskin vehicles full of men into places where they can be shot at, you need to worry more about your tactics than you do about the game engine.

PS - @chuckdyke  Score one for the Sherman!  B)

    I don't see that. I see 75 but not 75/18.

I'd guess that's the one, it has the correct Horstmann Suspension:

I really couldn't suggest anything better than @Suchy already has.

Absolutely fascinated to see what you come up with.....I feel another install coming on.  ;)

BTW - I'm still playing with your Italian Partisans.  @Freyberg has kindly given me permission to take advantage of his map portfolio.

My question is why would it do this? What triggers the AI to override one's orders? What triggers the AI to act against what would have  been a safer decision to stay put?

    Panic!

The truck driver is reacting to his perception of the battlefield not yours!

He doesn't know what you do.

If you want to know what he knows, play in Iron Mode and click on him during the replay phase.....You'll discover that his view of the battlefield is rather more blinkered than the one you normally see.

I suspect that you'll find that some time immediately prior to the truck starting to act silly from your perspective, a very prominent red contact icon became the primary & pressing concern from his perspective.

Sorry, I forgot to answer this question.

10,000 trials for each spotting test - that means loading the test save 10,000 times, calculate the action phase, let run for up to 7 seconds (until the first spotting action) and collect data of which enemy tanks (in which position) were spotted.

    1000 trials for the duels.

    OMFG!  :o

If you are on the ball, A.J. Squared Away, you might ask about the ammo of the Pak36. If I set ammo as limited it just issues out the HE and AP rounds, none of the HEAT rounds that project out the barrel like something out of Buck Rogers.

IIRC if you do that with a platoon of guns and then set all but one of them to Dismounted, you should wind up with an ammo dump that you can locate next to the remaining gun so that it can stay in the fight a bit longer.

Thanks all.  I have sorted it.  So far I have always played with level set to "Basic Training"  as Im still relatively new to the game.  It seems if you turn the difficulty up to Veteran or above the icons show up.  You would think "basic Training " level would give the most assistance to the player.  I just tested several battles and quick battles.  With difficulty set to Basic training NO pre contact recon.  With difficulty set to anything else contacts ARE SHOWN.

    Thanks for your help

Do yourself a MASSIVE favour, set it to Iron, now.....Then leave it there (at least until you have a real need to change it to Scenario Author Test).

Doing this will have no significant impact on the actual perceived difficulty (other than artillery and buddy-aid taking a little longer), but it will help you to learn how CM works a lot faster.....I strongly recommend you read this thread (several times) and experiment with the concepts it explains:

PS - Apologies for confusing you earlier.....I assumed you were more familiar with the games and were enquiring about the mechanics of pre-battle contacts/intel settings.

They are, but none of them have HE in this scenario. They don't even have any WP left, just one Smoke round in most if not all Sections.

    Eeeep!   :o

Is that intentional or an artefact of patching?

The Airborne section-level mortars never have HE in any event, if I recall correctly.

    The plot thickens!  ;)

That seems a bit odd to me!  Now I must emphasise that I have no particular knowledge of Para TOE, but it doesn't jibe well with various accounts of paras running around Arnhem with 2" mortars, blowing stuff up!
