  1. Most of the short 75mm guns were either removed from Pz.IVs/StuGs that were refitted with long guns, or from stockpiles originally intended for those types.....Hence they start turning up on almost every surplus armoured chassis you can imagine after the decision to switch Pz.IVs/StuGs to the long gun:

    Pz.III Ausf N, SdKfz.233, 250/9, 251/9 234/3 etc. etc.

  2. I don't suppose anyone might have made a Police Car skin for the Taxi at all?

Such a thing would be an absoloute godsend for my Uncon scenarios, especially if it could be applied to the taxis on just one side or the other.....Can anyone help or advise.  I am very new to CMx2 modding and utterly without talent at making such things myself.

  3. Do Exit Objectives HAVE to be on the map edge?  If not you could easily model this with spawns & exits located on a short length of trench.....It's a great idea TBH and I'm off to find out whether it can be done.  B)

EDIT - Yup it works just fine.....Test file attached (play as red if you are interested).

See BF what we could be doing if more of your games had Exit Objectives!!!  :P

  4. I'd be much more impressed by a simple and free patch adding this one small feature than I would by shelling out another $55 on a full game (not that I wouldn't buy it of course, I've bought everything else).....It's easily implementable, Exit Objectives are available in CMA and IMHO they are essential for any game featuring Uncons.

C'mon BF you can do this.....It'd be a doddle, money for nothing as they say, existing players get a better game, which refreshes interest and increases sales.....Simples!  B)

  5. CMSF does a reasonable job of representing the US/NATO 'Intervention' in Afghanistan IMHO.....I just wish it had exit zones!

If CMA were ever to be expanded, I'd most like to see an Iran-Iraq war variant.  The timing is about right, a lot of the Soviet and Tribal units would be semi-reusuable and more importantly it would bring NATO hardware like the M48, M60 & Chieftain into the CMx2 game engine.....I suspect a lot of Cold-War fans would probably rather enjoy that!  ;)

  6. Cheers Erwin.....These are what you might (in CM1 terms) call 'Semi-Fictiona'l scenarios.  The plan is to build an entertaining, if not entirely historically accurate, campaign that represents the gradual breakdown of central authority in the year preceding the Soviet invasion.  I hope, at the end of the campaign, to present the (initially 'Red') player with the option to join either the 'Blue' or 'Red' factions in a matched pair of follow up post-invasion campaigns.

I have to admit in advance that I'm using tweaked versions of the maps from the QB folder for all this.....Some of them are pretty good, certainly better than anything I could build for myself right now and they are more than sufficient for my purposes (this is still a learning exercise for me after all).

I have the (provisional) first two battles mostly ready (still writing alternate AI plans and I haven't done any briefings yet).  The (nominal) first represents the forcible removal of Daoud Loyalists from government facilities in a major city during the 'Saur Revolution' of April 1978, the second an early attempt to impose the will of the central government on a singularly unruly village set in the following month.  I may yet add an earlier 'prequel' scenario, loosely based on the assassination of Mir Akbar Khyber as a scene setter.

All very much a WIP right now, but I'm having a lot of fun doing it.....CMA has a certain 'something' all of its own, doesn't it?  B)

  7. I'm new around here, so please forgive me if this is out of order, but I just wanted to make a very late, somewhat forlorn and probably futile appeal for a patch adding exit zones to CMSF.....This simple change would literally rejuvenate this fine game from a scenario design perspective.  While I know BF are focussed on other things, I'd imagine the work involved would be fairly minor and it really would breathe new life into the title.

New gamers are moving onto the virtual battlefield all the time, I only acquired the CM2 & CM3 titles quite recently myself (despite owning and playing all the CM1 titles for well over a decade) and I only actually bought CMSF on a whim, but it's rapidly become one of my favourites (just behind CMA) as it offers the option for asymmetric warfare scenarios (and it's actually better at it than you give it credit for).   The one weak spot is the inability to get your combatants completely out of the firing zone before the serious heat arrives.

Please, please give this idea some thought, there is still interest in this long established and already popular title and this minor change would, I suspect, vastly increase it at very little cost to BF.....Which surely can't be a bad thing, can it?

PS - I was gutted that CMRT didn't feature Partisans, especially considering their contribution to Operation Bagration.

  8. CMA is one of BF's hidden gems.....Grittiest and best iteration of CMSF by far.

Would love to see an update covering US/NATO's entry into the fray in Afghanistan.....But I wouldn't want to buy another full game just to do so as this one already works so well.
