  4. I may be mistaken, but I believe the "hunt" command will be removed if the unit you are trying to give the order to has any enemy spotted...IOW, you give the hunt command to a unit, the program goes into a "HaltOnEnemySpotted" routine, sees the unit already has a unit in it's FOV, and stops the hunt command. That make any sens at all? If this IS true, then the "hunt" command should be blacked-out for units with enemy in their FOV.
  5. Well, yes and no...the objective at Talil was to clear and secure any weapons caches strewn about the airfield, the buildings, and then there were also mines all over the place (but can't be modeled). Anyway, I suppose I may just align the AF N-S and go from there...
  6. This is mainly for scenario designers. I have been working on an OIF-based scenario of a fight at Talil airbase near An Nasiriya. The airfield is basically at a 45-degree angle based on a N-S map orientation. First, it is impossible to recreate ANY airfield of note, simple because the runways are normally close to 1.5 miles long, so the entire thing must be scaled-down tremendously. Second, creating the airfield at such an orientation poses problems with roads and runways and how the tiles available are arranged. I have a question - what is the best way to get around this issue for realism's sake? I would like to be able to have things "look" decent enough and maintain the orientation to match the supporting maps. Are there any tricks that can be used to make roads and runways at least give the appearance of continuity, even though the tiles aren't correctly matched-up. I have decided to deal with a section of the airfield with pertinent objectives/buildings/etc., to keep from compromising scale, unless you think that it isn't such a big deal and I should just build a scaled-down version of the airfield... Anyway, any hints/tips would be appreciated!
  7. I'm sure he could find plenty of "units"...
  8. WOW Reading this thread has been a real treat! Boomslang sounds so American I picture him eating "Little Eagles" cereal in his Star Spangled pajamas, then marching double time around in circles pledging allegiance to his flag unit he is ordered back out onto the streets of Baghdad for his 3rd tour ( which he REQUESTED ) And the only people "wondering" why the USA is the greatest country on earth, are Americans. The rest of us know better and try not to get in your way.... Yeesh </font>
  9. It was a JOKE! My wife used to be in the 705th...you know, the "jailers"? And thanks for your service over there - it ain't easy, but I'm glad to know people like you are doing what you do on a daily basis. [ August 03, 2007, 12:42 PM: Message edited by: B00M$LANG ]
  10. How about Iranian equipment like the Tosan light tank, the Chinese Type 86 IFV (Ianians call it the Boragh), or the Zulfigar 3? It almost looks like an M1, so shouldn't be hard to design and skin! In fact, a great deal of Iran's stuff is based on Chinese equipment, so let's do the Chinese stuff as well!
  11. I think this is really too low-level. HIMARS would support an entire battalion for strategic fires, not to hit a dug-in platoon...that's what the 81/120mm MRTR and 155's are for. Possibly Ravens, the small manpack UAVs, but they are also a battalion asset, and should only be used by scouts forward, so there should be limits on their availability and use. Again, too low-level. They are normally planned and fired as battalion-level assets, and would rarely if ever called by a company. I'm thinking future versions/upgrades are going to have this or the ability to create your own. Again, you "kind of" get this with the C2 function. These maps are so small that you can't help but see/hear/smell units as soon as they enter the range of your M1's or TOW's. Now, all of this being said, if the map size limitation is increased to, say, 10k x 10k, these things MIGHT become relevant, but until then, it would just be 6 pounds of icing on a 4oz cupcake, for lack of a better analogy.
  12. Timmy, do you like to watch Gladiator movies? [ August 03, 2007, 08:16 AM: Message edited by: B00M$LANG ]
  13. I've heard that about you...next time, wear gloves!
  14. LOL! I see I've contributed a new buzzword! Run with it guys...run with it. May I suggest you use it at least twice a day in RL conversations...WE CAN START AN ASSMONKEY REVOLUTION! I'll have T-Shirts available on CafePress soon!
  15. Being a wargame designer myself, I can assure everyone here that the BFC crew is doing a great job responding to everyone's complaints AND bugs, but I should caution everyone...do NOT expect anything more than the most glaring problems to be fixed, and don't expect the "wishlist" to get completely fleshed-out. I've read so many negative comments about the beta test team, raging about "How could they NOT find this bug" or "How come they didn't have this crash". All I can say is this: Microsoft doesn't have this kind of problem because they make the OS. Now ask yourself why MS doesn't make their Office programs compatible with Linux...or any other operating system until WAY down the road? Now, you have a game that should be able to run on every single system configuration possible without a hitch? Seems just a tad unrealistic, yes? Anyway, don't expect a major change in pathfinding, because that is the toughest and most expensive nut to crack...just ask the Department of Defense. I'm fully expecting some performance and system crash issues and basic behavioral things (ass to the enemy and such) to be fixed, but don't expect a perfect patch. Heck, how many games out there are patched 10-12 times in their first year? If there are things fixed or added/changed beyond what I mentioned, we should all feel VERY lucky indeed! All I'm saying is, temper your excitement, continue to submit things you find as you play, and try and enjoy the game...I know I have!
  16. Great catch, Dan! I was using the target command to get an LOS line and didn't even think to use the target arc! Works great! Thanks!
  17. I'm game. I just didn't want to foster the idea that I'm someone who could just be walked on...I don't do it in RL, and I won't do it here. Would it be wrong to tell everyone here now that I'm just 13 years old? My mom says I'm "precocious"!
  18. It's so gratifying to see that li'l ol' me, as you called me, "a stool specimen", can get under your skin so easily. Which is it, Einstein? Am I a stool sample or an evil genius who seems to be able to yank your chain at will? Bah, I've had tougher competition from people for whom English is a 3rd or 4th language. Hasn't your 57 years on this planet (or 13 years...whatever) taught you anything, or did you just discover teh intrnets yesterday?
