1. Select unit. 2. Select a movement order such as "quick" "fast" "slow" or "move" (don't select hunt) 3. Right click on the vehicle. When you place the cursor over the vehicle, if the cursor is green, there is enough room for the troops. If the cursor is yellow, the vehicle is too full or too small.

Massive performance problems

1.02...wait for 1.02. It's the nVidia drivers being retarded and Battlefront is working on a fix. -

This is (most likely) like the nVidia problem I mentioned in my review ; a fix is planned for 1.02 last time I heard.

Why 2 week delay of North American retail box?
JaguarUSF replied to Canada Guy's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
For whatever reason, Paradox retail distribution in the US is notoriously delayed. The same thing happened when the EU3 Collector's Edition was supposed to be exclusive to Target stores: it took 2 weeks for the game to show up. I think they "outsource" their North American distribution and whoever does it is slow. The Internet is a wonderful thing. -

Ouch. Tom Chick holds forth on CM:SF
JaguarUSF replied to istari's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Hello again everyone. I've been "away" for a few days because of the birth of my first child (hooray!) and I come back and see this post. I'm flattered to be referenced as ammunition in arguments The scenarios that I did that got improved for the game I did for fun when I played the preview version of CMSF, just so everyone knows. I wasn't asked to, I just did them to test out the editor and create some more content in the game (the early builds only had a couple of scenarios), and I shared them with Battlefront, so I would not call myself an active member of the team or a major contributor to the game, although I did help in finding out the apparent cause of nVidia poor performance. I think the mass opinion of CMSF will lie somewhere between my enthusiastic approval and Tom's disappointment; a lot of the issues he brought up have validity, while others missed the mark due to being uninformed or giving the game a quick glance. Again, everyone will find out soon enough! So enjoy the game! -
Is the CMSF forum the new political opinion forum?
JaguarUSF replied to Chad Harrison's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
I thought that my comment was so blatantly ridiculous that it was assumed to be tongue-in-cheek, but apparently not. Here, let’s try again: That sounds like something a Communist would say. Better? -
Weapon/Vehicle List and Review Sections Added
JaguarUSF replied to Madmatt's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Drivers of vehicles have side arms as their only weapon. Grenades, mines, RPGs, and demo charges are in as well. -
There is a scenario titled "Ambush Tutorial" that isn't really a tutorial, just a simplifed mission. There are no interactive instructions or things like that, either in the game or a read-along tutorial in the manual. The manual is comprehensive, though

Update on the GeForce 8800 issues
JaguarUSF replied to JaguarUSF's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
If you preordered from Battlefront, yes, you will download 1.01 on the 27th (part of the reason why Battlefront wanted to hold off on the release...to get the patch out). Orders through Paradox and I imagine Gamer's Gate are 1.00, and they will download a patch day of release. I don't know of any Vista issues because I haven't been suckered into that mess -
Troops do actively search for cover in CMSF, unless they are given a "fast" or "quick" order...maybe he was trying to be quick about it

http://www.acegamez.co.uk/reviews_pc/Combat_Mission_Shock_Force_PC.htm I think he realistically states some of the problems that new players will have (lack of a tutorial and no tool-tips) with the game, stuff that I didn't really have an issue with because I am familiar with previous titles. He also comments about the AI, and I think the issues lies with the fact that the computer player is less aggressive than in most RTS games. It does take some time for the AI to get going at the beginning of a scenario. The strategic AI is all hard-coded, so it's as good as the scenario designer wants it to be. I guess he never ran into (or didn't play enough) to experience multiple AI plans that vary their strategy. Most of the scenario missions have the AI on the defensive, so they are stationary as he mentions, although it's by design rather than poor AI. An inaccuracy: there is deformation, although you can't really see it unless you are up close.

Upcoming Reviews--the hardcore stuff
JaguarUSF replied to mystro's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Actually, I just did some scenarios with the editor while previewing the game on my own. I sent them to the developers (around 12 or so) and they put 5 in the game. I didn't have anything to do with the development of the game, I just contributed some additional stand-alone scenarios. -
Battlefront has identified solutions to both of the problems I mentioned in my review with my GeForce 8800 video card. The teleportation problem is a confirmed fix for 1.01 (I have personally seen it), which will be the release version available from Battlefront. The freezes are, as I suspected, due to crappy drivers not being able to handle all those fantastic polygons, resulting in overall poor performance and eventual freezing. The models will be optimized to make the nVidia cards cry less. Stupid baby cards. [ July 20, 2007, 11:10 AM: Message edited by: JaguarUSF ]

How do Bugs get past Beta Testers?
JaguarUSF replied to legend42's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Not enough combinations of hardware for testers, as noted by the 8800 deal. -
If you can't say something nice, say something mean!

Yeah, I stink That's very good news, though. Maybe that will magically fix the freezes.
-
Well, the game locks up (really it freezes) but I can Task Manager out of it and just start the game up again. But because the video ram usage is already kind of high, the freezes happen more frequently unless you reboot.
