  1. 'At a distance it looks to me like the British authority's approach to this street violence is to ignore the social aspect, declare it all simple crime, punish as many perpetrators as possible, increase police capacity, and hope that will keep a lid on things. Certainly, that's cheaper and better for the short term interests of the people in charge than attempting to reduce the number of people not in charge who have a grudge against authority. That's hard and expensive and is pretty much Socialism defined, so even if the decision-makers thought the funds were available it would not be politically unacceptable to them, it would after all directly undermine their position as the upper class.' Nicely summed up Bigduke6
  2. The knee jerk reaction of the politicians grabbed my attention. I think for a few hours/days they saw scenes that they could only have dreamed in their worse nightmares. A Britain where the population, sick to death of all the Establishments hypocracy and profiteering took to the streets and though their target this time was the rioters and looters ( with whom incidently I have no sympathy), these politicians with their heavy handed justice, were hoping to get a message across to all of us.
  3. ...are the rioters simply looters as this Government would have us believe or are they maybe doing all us ordinary working men and women a massive favour by showing the powers that be that if someone like bankers, power companies and the oil cartel doesn't start showing some restraint in their demands for profits, life in this country for the fatcats and the 'I'm alright Jack' politicians is going to get pretty complicated.
  4. This is a great mod. Is there a way to give a different symbol for a wounded casualty and a dead one ?

  12. I have come to the conclusion particularly since the bank bailouts that British politicians of any party are a gutless bunch. The ordinary working man in the UK is shafted on a regular basis by anyone and everyone, bankers, oil companies, utility companies and huge supermarket chains to name but a few. Then of course government itself with taxes on taxes like VAT on petrol already made expensive by tax. Now we learn that any political party that wants to get itself elected has to pay homage to an octagenarian Australian and his media organisation or run the risk of his newspapers like the late but not lamented News of the World and its daily sister the Scum, sorry Sun, dishing the dirt on them whether its true or not. Did anyone notice that when teachers, civil servants etc went on strike the other week, the Sun made sure to include a virtually page size photo of the Eighties miners stike leader, Arthur Scargill in their coverage. Lets hope the hacking details uncovered so far are just the tip of the iceberg.

  15. ....idly watching the, well, idly watching, when I noticed a plaque on the wall opposite me. After a while curiosity got that better of me and I went over to read it and it said ' In this inn King Charles the First last saw his children before his execution.' and I thought, Wow that's not something you'll see in any old pub. Just thought I'd mention it.
