Just gave 1.05 a spin and it works MUCH better then 1.04 did. I'm looking forward to the WWII (how about Starship Troopers too - the book not the movie version...) But for now Merry Christmas and Happy New Year (but on January 2 get cracking)

Anyone have tips for winning the first scenario? (not the campaign, the first one listed in the individual missions). I've tried advancing with infantry, rushing with the Strykers, Overwatch, Smoking the line of advance, and always end up with dead Strykers - since they seem to be in LOS from the very second the scenario starts.

If you like the game, do you avoid MOUT?

I gave up on 1.4 after telling a squad to move down a ditch, and two guys from the squad decided to not follow the ditch and got shot. -

All a matter of perspective. I've found both sides able to write just as loudly.

Now that is a low blow! I never get anyone human when I call the cable company.

Is CMSF Fundamentally flawed beyond patching???
dynaman200 replied to Charlie901's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Personally I think the disconnect between 1 to 1 representation and not doing the LOS checks that way was a big mistake, it magnifies the LOS/LOF problems that already exist. I do think they will eventually get the bugs patched and the game working well, I'm not sure I'll be along for the ride, especially if WEGO continues to play second fiddle to RT play. -
I have a strange problem with the License

> how could I know how many times I license the game? Try to license it on a second computer. If it works you used one (and unlicense it right away to keep it). If not, then it used two - time to call tech support in that case. -
Why Battlefront should write, II. (my 2 cents)

I have a different take on this. CMSF did not go in the direction I wanted to see it go. I also believe the game bit off more then it can chew with the 1 to 1 soldier representation on screen, especially with picky group like wargamers... With 1.04 patch the game works pretty well, better in some ways then CMBO, worse in others. The problem is that it is not the game I wanted, and I'm not slamming BF for that - I won't be pre-ordering another title though... -
Who will be playing in years to come

Yes CMX2 is going to be more closely focused on a single time frame (I think). I just went back to playing CMBO and it is still great. -
At what difficulty do you play CMSF and why?
dynaman200 replied to Michael Withstand's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Veteran: since in 1.03 there were more spotting oddities with Elite mode. I have not played the game under 1.04 yet. -
Old School WEGO Long Live Gary Grigsby!

McIvan: Yes the interface was horrible. I never did figure it all out. Then CMBO came along (well, quite a bit later) and got the interface and the game right. -

> I've played all the SP games and none of them were WEGO. Not SP, the games were in the eighties. You would give orders and then the computer would carry them out. One of the titles was "Typhoon of Steel". I forget the other ones. It was squad level combat with clunky eighties style SSI graphics. -

The Steel Panthers predecessor games were wego if I remember correctly. Of course "we" meant the computer and the player. Although there may have been hotseat play. -
Only thing I really miss from CMAK when playing CMBO is the Contact command. Getting slaughtered left and right without it.
-
Fixing probably won't be as simple as drawing the tracers straight. If the tracer would have missed a building,it would instead just stop existing in the middle of nowhere (since it does not go past the building tile). I have no idea if I explained that well...
-
I just started playing CMBO again. Other then REALLY missing a couple commands the title holds up well. (Tops on the list is the move to contact command and the targetting arc command)
-
Try the demo and find out. I think it has potential
-
This has been a problem with CM since CMBB (CMBO has squad keep moving no matter what...) My guess is that allowing the AI to know the difference between being able to get to cover quickly versus the cover being too far away is not an easy task.

I'm patient, so do I play 1.03, 1.05, 1.1 or what??
dynaman200 replied to LeBlaque's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Personally I'm waiting for the 1.04 patch. Mostly since I'm a PBEM person and want the waypoint fixes that are promised for that version. That plus I've got a bunch of CMAK and CMBO games going at the moment anyway. -
If you get the map tiles working for quick battles (even if not) please have it work for user made scenarios too. It would have come in really handy when converting boardgame scenarios...
