"Bone Tomahawk" is well cast and well done but a bit disturbing.  "This is not the time for womanly imaginings."

When talking about movies in general - and Charles Bronson in  particular - I have to mention Once Upon a Time in the West.
Watch it, if you havent already done so: It is a masterpiece - one of the best movies ever made, in my opinion.

And in at least one WWII campaign -- Operation Market Garden -- a chain-link fence played an important role. It was a high one that lined part of the British main route from their drop zone to Arnhem. It channeled movement and trapped some British paras when the Germans counterattacked.

Is anyone else having problems with  "Unread Content" taking a long time to load or not at all? Recently (not sure, several days to a week now), I has either taken a long time +30s (just now it took 52s) for me to load it. I can see my browser is just waiting. Other times (like when it takes longer than 60s) I get a 504 Gateway timeout message displayed from Amazon Cloudfront. Given I have no connectivity issues otherwise, and when it takes too long (timeouts) it is a 5XX error, leads me to believe it is Battlefront own server that is having issues? Perhaps because of the coming Storefront changes.
Is anyone else experiencing the same delays?

It gets confusing when there are two different versions given, one for the game, and one for the game engine. I wish this could be simplified somehow, maybe using the format of the first number being the game engine, and then the game version? So, if you'd update your game version 3.01, for instance, to game engine 4, it would be changed to 4.01.

Personally, I agree with some of what Carl has to say, but his delivery and demeanor suck. The good points he might make get buried by his attitude and combative nature. He's rude and obnoxious when there is no need to be and this thread is a perfect example. There's a fairly defined demilitarized zone between rabid fanboy and bitter troll and an objective thoughtful person can usually navigate it without setting off the landmines. Unfortunately, Carl tends to break dance his way through...in clown shoes...on a pogo stick.

I feel compelled to chip in here, but will no doubt regret doing so. Just because individuals are not aware of something does not mean that the information relating to it is not out there. A huge amount has been written on Arnhem and in recent years many of the "gaps" have been filled.
If anybody is still relying on the book of a Bridge Too Far for their primary information then they are sadly out of date, let alone relying on the film.
If you look at the MG scenario "All Round Defence" you can see the forces for both sides laid out as historically as the game allows (other than I replaced the two 231's with 234's and also put Grabner in a 234). Frost had in excess of 700 men at the bridge from a variety of units, including 4x ATG and numerous jeeps.
    Good sources are
    Kershaw
    Middlebrook
The Two Then and Now volumes
and a raft of work by Dutch historians, including Zwaerts - German Armoured Units at Arnhem

After joining Amazon Prime in a failed effort (driver delivered time but to unknown address) to get a desperately needed Mac keyboard the next day, I subsequently discovered the service included movies, which is how I found ARNHEM. This is a well done documentary featuring some heavy hitters like Kershaw, Beatty and Carruthers. It makes extensive use of a situation map, combat walks (with the narrator pointing clearly as to who was where from a given location), aerial recon images, aerial attack and jump and glider assault footage, ground combat film and stills (from both sides) and much more in a story told day by day, with the primary emphasis on the battle, as opposed to a heavy front end on the grand strategy and nitty gritty of the planning. At times, it gets down to the actions of a single company. Some of whats presented as visuals was familiar to me, but much else was not. About the only real gripes I have is some History Channel grade image disconnects, such as the narration describing all the German armor wrecked at Falaise, but a photo of a ruined truck, a King Tiger which is an exact match for the Becker Special 105 SPH on a Lorraine Schlepper chassis, etc. There are similar annoyances you can find for yourselves, but also some grog goodies you may not have ever seen Overall, though, I think this is a really good military documentary, one which covers an enormous amount of ground in under an hour. Believe Amazon offers a 30 day free trial Prime, which has other war piggery on it, too.

You're right Oldman did deserve an Oscar.... For "Sid and Nancy" and for "Prick up your Ears". But his Churchill in "Darkest Hour" doesn't really compete with Simon Russel Beale's in  Aunty Beeb's three hour "Dunkirk".

In the words of a certain USatian tennis player who now works for Aunty Beeb, "You cannot be serious". A movie based on a flawed book, made by "Darling Dickie" who had established his directorial credentials with "Oh, What a Lovely War", and was then leaned on by Hollywood agents to give their clients more scenes. Doesn't equal "historical" in my book.

After I mentioned Pavloc's house over on the CoC board on FB, one of the guys essentially said the story of Pavlov's house was propaganda. When I asked for evidence, he sent me this link to a massive discourse on the whole situation, complete with photos and Russian CC film clips. The amount of information here is overwhelming, but I thought it would delight the troops. The carnage is sobering (a battalion down to 18 effectives), showing how truly close the Germans came to taking Stalingrad, and there's grog chrome galore, too. Nets on upper story windows on German buildings to keep out incendiary bottles, for example. And did you know Serjeant Pavlov took the house with only three other frontoviki? They were its sole garrison for a time, and the buld-up began from there. All in all, this Reddit is a marvelous resource for what I'm sure is a CM game people dream of (or wake up sweating at the thought of it). There is a great deal more at the link, including a lot of amplifying remarks, corrections to the article's translator, comments about being respectful to the fighters and more. All in all, quite the education!

    Fair use

Some years late to the party. I was really enjoying this battle until the bridge bug struck. My AFV's just got stuck 2/3rds of the way across. I even reversed them off and tried again a few times. But, no joy. After wasting about ten minutes, and getting more and more frustrated, the Germans roll up and shoot my traffic jam to pieces. I hit "Cease Fire" and settle for a draw.

TIK is excellent. I originally found his channel from watching his lets plays of the old Close Combat videos. He has since moved on to making his own well researched historical documentaries on various battles and subjects. A lot of what he is working on now is all part of his research for a monster Stalingrad documentary.
His channel really is fantastic. I find his content to be highly educational and well presented/researched. Would highly recommend checking out the posted video to this thread as well as the rest of his channel. Great stuff!
