  1. You might be able to play tcp if your opponant is willing, but I doubt that many would since it is PBEM format. I would suggest that you find someone and do a couple of PBEM before then so that it will not be a problem at Tournament time, it is not hard but it does take a little getting use to. Sometimes getting files from someone can be a little challenging because of firewalls and such.
  2. Once I see if we can get around Ten players interested, I will send out emails to all interested and go into more detail, get those signed up who are really willing and lock in the dates.
  3. I'm always up for PBEM action. I haven't used CMBO in a while, but it's still on my Mac. I can only run 2.5 turns a week, though, as our temporary rental has no internet connectivity. I'll have to take incoming files home from work and send my response files back from the office the next day. With each turn requiring two file exchanges, that's 2.5 turns every five working days. Sorry Mos was 71331, It will require a min. of a turn a day, I am planning on no scenario's larger than 30 turns, but that represents 45 emails. if only one turn a day is sent that would be over 6 weeks. So at the moment I will say I need to have players willing to commit themselfs to a average of 1-2 turns a day for 3 small battles for approx. 2 1/2 months.
  4. To Zweihorn, the nice thing about a round robin format is everyone interested will play. I am also glad to see a newbie want in, I hope more new players will get into this, many of the old guard will not play CMBO, it is not grog enough for them. So for those that have been intimidated to play in something like this, this will be a good oppotunity to try it. The scenario's will be small and the amount of time to participate should not be overwhelming. The only thing I do expect is that those that participate, show good gamemanship and finish their matches. If someone needs to drop out, please do it after a round is completed.
  5. I have set my forty dollars aside for the cmx2, I have also been planning on buying my next computer about the same time. That requires a little more money, but my present machine is starting to have problems meeting the needs of the other stuff out there. This game hitting the market still looks to be a year away. Holding off for another year from buying a new system and giving me no clue what I would likely need is not making me very happy.

  7. If we have the interest I would love new scenarios from people like you, I have played some of your work and know of its quility. In this tourney I am wanting to provide well balenced ones but that does not mean all will be balenced. Also I might have a question or two for you as to how to send out the games and keep both players blind.
  8. Since cmbo seems to be losing interest I have been pondering running a round-robin tourney this Sept. and Oct. This would consist of each player having 3 PBEM matches going on in Sept as round One, and three matches in Oct as round two. Each would be a different Scenario, turns per scenario will be 20 to 30 or so. I have seen the scoring by other tournaments and have decided to try something new. The scoring in this tourney will be awarded by the completed outcome of each scenario. Example, if I was to have 20 participants, that is ten matches in each scenario. (Example of one) 7 players win playing the german side and 3 win playing the allies. Scoring awarded to the highest winner on the German side would be 5 points, next player 4, and so forth. After these 5 players are given points, then the Best allied player is given 5 points and 4 to the next and so on. So no matter the scenario balence the best 5 players for each side is awarded points. There will also be bonus points awarded if you win and are playing the inferior side in the scenario, this bonus will be determined by the inbalence. Example, 9 win playing as allies, one wins playing germans, this one winner of the German side will recieve 5 points for being the best player on the side but will receive a additional 2 points for winning with the weak force. I am also pondering bonus points in round two for winning if a low rank player from round one wins someone with a higher ranking from the first round. This would be awarded if they win a better ranked player by a percentage above the average of all completed matches of that scenario. Round two match ups will also be determined by completed scores of round one. Example the top player from round one will have his 3 matches against, the number 2 player the # 4 player and the # 10 or something similar to that. I know this does not explain the scoring completely but should be enough for understanding that I can complete a tournament in two months, it only requires a person to play 6 games, it addresses scoring that is somewhat fare no matter the balence of the scenario. And will provide even matched players a chance to compete against each other once. The real question is, are there enough interested to make my efforts to host one worth it. It seams most CMBO players are playing against the AI. So if you are reading this, willing to commit to finishing only 6 PBEM's and willing to see your name posted with a score behind it, let me know here and I will make the effort if there is enough interest.
  9. I love it,try explaining that to the guy your fighting against that is too competative.
  10. I would say "This is a war Crime". those responsible need to be found and shot. So many scenarios and so little time, but I am thankful for those that I have had the pleasure to use from those of you who had posted there. I was planning to post a few dozen that I have worked on these last few years, to give something back, Oh well!! I will miss the site.
  11. Victory is in the details, the question is are you migromanaging correctly? If not, then it is a wasted time, isnt it.
  12. Next time before sending your men into the valley of death, run a test map and verify what you will be able to provide for as a smoke screen, this will give you the ability to know up front about what to expect. If you can only provide 2 1/2 minites then wishing you had bigger stuff isnt going to help, learn to make that short time work for you. A good player learns to make what he has work, others purchase the only things they know how to make work.
  13. Not only playing, but have one fellow player that is willing to PBEM with me and is Good so it makes the game challenging and enjoyable. So what more could I ask for other than to find someone else that could play and would want to play vs me. I still like to add I like the fact that it plays different from cmbb or cmak, if they operated the same then I only have one way to play the game, with the modifications it provides a little difference in how to play your tactics.
  14. If he takes you up on it, he will also be to busy to debate. With his available time being spent writing his books. This could be a good or bad thing, depending on how you want to see it.
  15. Well, Thanks Panzer76. At least it has explained what happened. All these games and I have not seen this type of action before. Hmmmm, tells you about my close assault skill then doesn't it.
  16. Panzer 76 "When a unit throws a normal grenade it simulates the unit performing a close assault on the enemy tank." How does a unit close assault from the second floor of a building 30 meters away, they should at least be on ground level before a dash could happen. But this does give me the image of a man running up to the tank, somehow climbing up, opening a hatch and throwing in the grenade, but with all the cover fire he had across the river such a thing would never of happened, and it would have taken more time than that throw represented.
  17. I just have to tell one that just happened, I also would like to hear from you all if this is something that has happened in your games also. In a battle that is for control of a bridge, the only flags for the map are on both ends of the bridge, 300 points each. Well as the Germans I was defending, trying to bleed the Russians dry so that they would not have enough left to take the bridge on both ends. The match is into extra turns, but the russians were struggling to push into the bldgs on the leading edge of the bridge, they had one T34 still and had no known threat from me since they had destroyed my two 88's which was the backbone of my defence.I had only one unit on the map with any antitank weapons left and they were hiding, waiting to get a shot off at the tank if it made a dash across the bridge, they had two panzerfaust. Sure enough, he makes the dash and I watch as my unit sits there and watches his tank cross a 100 meter bridge and not even try to take a shot. At this point I thought I had lost this hard fought match, his tank had control of the flag on the far side of the bridge, the few units in the trenches there were being gunned down by his tank, on the near side of the bridge, he owned one side of the road and I the other to the road leading to the bridge and I would be lucky to hold on to that and keep the flag neutral and the score was showing in his favor. The faust team was out of range and no way to get them closer. Then my moment of glory, A half squad that was 30 meters from the tank hiding in the second story of a light bldg, tosses a hand grenade and destoys this t34 tank, the tank was buttoned up before this happened, it was shown as a normal grenade from a normal squad, this was no bundle. Now how did this possible destroy a tank and a couple of the crew, I love the results, but that is just crazy luck. The few surviving crew was gun down, so I again control that flag, have the tank points and should be able to keep the other flag neutral, victory to the krauts because of some kind of super grenade.
  18. I found this one pretty fun, Played against the AI and gave them the recommended +3. Its quick, the defence will put up a good fight and if you are smart, you will find the one weakness in his design. I came away with a tactical victory, the Germans only had 6 men left, I had 45, it was 70%/30% Now someone can tell me how they did better than that on the first try. There is two flags, for me on turn 15, they both were neutral on that turn and there was only 2% difference in the score, if the game would not of went to 20 turns the AI would of did much better.
  19. Sounds like a fun one, I am going after it right now.
  20. panzer76 I like the fact that you held in there and was willing to fight on even knowing that the odds were against you. I am sure you let whomever you were playing know many times how they let that easy win slip away. But I hope you learned a lession with unit placement from it. That is terrible losses for one plane coming on the map. You must of had a slew of units almost on top of each other to take that kind of losses or am I reading something into this that is not what really happened.
  21. The last few stories have been great, I hope this tread continues for awhile, I enjoyed the one about V winning his bigger brother. Victories are sweater when the win comes from someone that normally outplays you. Really I am just posting to place this on top so that maybe a few more will add their stories.
  22. I read on this forum at a earlier post that this is affected by combat, if there is firefights in progress it normally will continue to add turns until the combat somewhat stops, since then I have used that thought, if I am wanting less extra turns and I can break contact with the enemy, normally the game will end in about 2 turns. So it seems to work but I have not tested this out, just have tried the advice.
  23. Athlete, You are doing great, play smart. Don't go for the overkill, make him play to you. As mentioned from others, make sure you are covered with holding the town from any future assault from him, likely inf. (he does not need the flag, just needs to neutralize it to get the points swing back to 500/000 for flags in his favor. Learn to force him to react to you, if his tanks cannot support the small flags then send what you can without hurting your defence. If it was me, if I am going to scout them other flags, (which he will have some inf defending) why send a platoon which really likely not be able to take and hold a flag by itself, but add a tank and now that platoon can find the enemy let the tank clear the enemy from range and use the platoon or part platoon to hold the minor objective, also if he decides to respond to this threat with armour he would need to pull two or three tanks, your tank on defence should be able to slow that down and at least get a even kill. Also if he pulls that much armour, then the second main flag might be available, so he will be hard pressed to send any armour if he feels he needs to maintain his present defence. The win will be nice but as you said you are not there yet, play smart to the end.
  24. These last two are great, nothing like amazing outcomes
  25. I just had the reverse of this happen, Enemy in the first floor of a two story bldg. I area fired to try and keep them pinned since I could not lock onto them, when the play came back, my unit had fired away up into the second story of that bldg. Thats the way to keep there heads down. The game just needs more commands when directing area fire. Really weak at the moment.
