  1. plan on seeing you there. I have 15 commited at present and another 11 that said they would be signing up when the time came. So we should have a good size group when its all said and done.
  2. I am running this at "a Few Good Men" site and if you are not a member, there is no cost to join if you are interested. Below is a general discription of the format (and yes it requires you to mail turns through dropbox to play) This Combat Mission Cold War tournament consist of 5 rounds; one battle for each round, each battle lasting 30 minutes or less. Players are required to do approx 5 turns a week at a minimum. Format: Players will be given a selected force. The mission will be to do the best they can with the situation they have been given and the scoring will be given out to the top 50 percent from each side of the battle. In other words, the side given to the player could be very challenging, but perform better than 50 percent of the players playing that side of the battle and they have won and will be given a point value as to how they have done. Winners will get a score of somewhere between 80 to 100 points per match depending on how they have performed to each other. so best player will receive 100 points, lowest winner will receive 80 points, and everyone else is somewhere in between. Scoring in scenarios will be one's score minus the opponents score (as to how they will be selected for the top 50%). Each player will be in charge of a different Nations forces throughout the 5 battles, so skill with all forces will be a factor. as well as both offensive and defensive skills. Battles are designed generally to be short and intense ( I have been keeping all battles at 30 minutes or less.). A dropbox folder is to be maintained with a invite to the Tournament master (Slysniper), This will provide me access to the game files if for any reason we need to replace a player or verify slow play issues. Please name the dropbox files in a method that I can tell who is vs who (exam: Jtimo vs grunt match1). Game files shall stay in the dropbox folder and not be deleted until the Gamemaster (@SlySniper) has copied and removed them. No surrender at any time is allowed. if you want to end a game early, then use cease fire with both players agreeing to those terms, if one player wants to play on instead, allow him to do so until he is satisfied. It is in your own best interest to put up the best fight you can no matter what. (No one wants to be that guy that has the best score posted against him) If for any reason a player needs to drop out of game play, just contact me and let me know of your intentions and I will make sure any non-completed game will be finished for the remaining opponent. This format has been received very well and this is going to be the third Tornament under this format.
  3. can you just replay the turn and see where it hit. (pause is your friend while doing this) Its been a long time since I have played BS, but I do know you can take a T90 out with a Bradley, but I do not recall doing it from the front. But flanking and jumping it from the rear has worked for me
  4. The best way is to just make a test map and place the units on it with both button and unbutton forces and let them spot enemy units at the range you want to verify which is quicker. IN cmcw, there is plenty of units that still do better open hatched. American Armor also. In CMSF its mostly russian forces with older equipment IN CMBS most things do better buttoned up. there is a little more to it than just what sights are being used. but I will agree its the main factor in many situatuions.
  5. I wish I could, but over the years I have not saved the files in other locations and with CM and the install issues that can happen and updates and such, I have manage to lose a bunch of scenarios or have them overwritten with the default ones more than once. You would think I would care about it more than that, But I generally don't and I am on to other things to come up with or want to try. I did look to see what I might have still and I did not see any ASL that I remember. I did see a few Rat Patrol cmfi battles. You know, two Jeeps with 50 cals taking on the German convoy patrol , which happened in almost every show of the series. Needless to say, one would say, no way that would not turn out like that in real life. Well, I have proven to myself that yes if they can suprise the force and jump them from the flank or rear. They have a good chance of tearing the Germans up. AC cars and halftracks are Easy Prey. Taking out a early war tank is much harder, but I had some success there as I recall, but it was luck. Generally it was hit and run tactics and dont let the enemy armor engage.
  6. As mentioned, , the ASL scenarios are good for concept but direct conversion is not normally the key to success. I have done at least a dozen for myself over the years. I find that you can normally convert the troops and units pretty much like you are trying to do. I find the challenge is in creating a map that will create the same type of effects. Trying to do 1 to 1 scale does not generally work well. Also the amount of time is not a good conversion either. In general these items need to be adjusted. So getting the same or similar feel to the battle requires normally a shorter time frame in cm and the map either needs to be smaller in proportion or similar scale but many more buildings and woods and such to create similar line of sight issues. needless to say, its not much more than a aid as to a concept as to what you want to create. which by that point, might as well use it as a rough concept only. Pick your own force mixture and create something totally new but with the goal of getting the same combat feel you remember from playing the battles in ASL I did a hill 621 that came out really well, but if you were to compare it to ASL it would not rate well as to similar in many ways.
  7. Well, I should have pointed out, yes it works against a AI that is non responsive. As for moving up one flank with all units, not really a good concept against anything that will counter with the defender countering by flanking you from the other side of the map.
  8. I played it twice, first time lost. I placed my units half, and half and went up the left and right side of the map. That was a good way to get out fired powered and lose the game. I played it again and went all units up one side of the map. With this approach I was able to get more guns on less enemy units at one time. normally I was allowing one unit to sit and fire while remaining to move other units forward to push for close range and flanking shots. With this approach I won the battle and kept my losses low and that was against the strong flank of the German. The side I attacked had the better enemy armor by far. So I do think keeping your armor grouped together is a key principle in this battle. As long as you dont do something stupid like move up the middle of the map.
  9. but the point to the whole statement comes down to who has the time for such time consuming activities for such periods of time unless they have nothing of real purpose to fill their time with.
  10. well, I will apologize to those young forum members that do not fill this statement as to its qualifications. And are working and doing something productive But for all those that do, I have no need to, any person, no matter the age, which has the desire for the government to take care of them and want to do nothing to help mankind progress on by personally doing something to be of service can take my comment as offensive all they want. (which there is way too many of out there in the world presently). As for a retired person having the same status. Incorrect if that person has worked their whole life, paid into a system that takes way more over those years of work and gives some of it back once they qualify for it in their older years when working is not logical. They are not the same at all. But no need to worry, because before long, the whole system is going to adjust and its not going to be pretty when it does.
  11. Chatting live for hours on end, That is the younger generation.. Where somehow no one works, the government pays them to sit at home and they can have nothing better to do. It is not the retired generation. Back to the original issue on the topic. Finding good opponents and someone to chat with is not all the easy no matter where you go. And the fact is, you can find plenty of jerks along the way. Why, because the world is full of them, it has nothing to do with what forum you are on. But you can find good people to play against and to discuss the game with and when you do, hang onto them , at least for a while and you will be a happy person. As mentioned by others , look for active players that you can see are participating in whatever forum you are at. people that are investing in the community, they will be the type that will do you right
  12. Been way too long ago to be able to say for sure why I enjoyed them. But with infantry not having Anti tank weapons to a great extent and still playing with mostly medium size armor. It was just fun dealing with the strength and weaknesses of units during the earlier time frame. Where every size gun has a chance vs your armor. but if you can mass your armor, steam Rollin infantry is a almost given. But I recall that deciding which battle was ready for trying a massive breakthrough was part of the fun. There was battles that making such a decision could be costly.
  13. CMFI has the best campaign in it. And that is from someone that is not into campaigns. But I did enjoy those.
  14. enjoy them all, no need to put one at the top. I do have a least favorite which makes no sense to me. But I have not like CMRT nearly as much as the others, likely because I miss not having the earlier war periods. There is still some great battles in the family, but there is others I just really dislike, even with the newest additions
  15. well, hope that steam somehow starts producing many more players buying the game and then maybe BF will be a little more willing to cut the price and put the game on sale as they start to age. I really think part of the reason was they were not doing the volume to do much less than to price the game as is and to leave it there. With the niche market, they could do it. If they can get to a different volume as to sales numbers, maybe the willingness to reduce pricing will be more willing. I cannot really say, but from what I have seen, it does not appear that the steam number of users is really big. but maybe someone can give some good guesses as to the number of sales they are getting there.
  16. I have learned to love almost every tank in the game for what it is. I don't need to have the best tank, I just want to use the tank I have to its best strengths. I will make you happy in that one at the top of my list is the M18 Hellcat. It has more speed by far than any other tank that has a gun that can defeat as much armor as it does. Just learn not to get hit and its a winner. I think I would take it over almost any medium or heavy tank also. There is only a few enemy tanks that I would not want to take on with it, if it had to be a head to head duel. But in any tactical situation I can maneuver in, I will enjoy taking any beast on with them. So I dont need any other tank, so in my view, it might be the best tank of the war. But it has it weaknesses also.
  17. Well, I just finished the battle in the US campaign that uses a bunch of tows for a ambush. To tell you the truth, I did not count it. but I would say the game has it pretty close to correct. I was likely running at 60% of what was fired as to getting hits. I think most of the shots were running around 1300 meters, a few down in the 900 and a very few at longer ranges, I did not check , but like 1600 meters. I sure did not get a feel that the game is over accurate as the original post suggest. They would need to prove some data as to what is happening in the game before I would investigate it.
  18. Interesting original post, since you have imput from someone that actually used the system. I was only able to watch such guys use the system. I do agree, he has some valid points as to accuracy of the weapon. But I would like to point out, some of the failure problem is during training, they are using old munitions, getting rid of the stuff that has been sitting around the longest. So that is a factor in some of the failure rate. Personnally, as for firing problems, I would say it was 1 in 5. from what I saw. As for missing the target, he likely has some good points for short range. But I do recall long range targets being missed a lot. Normally something failed with the communication by them. Wire issues. So not sure his high percentage at the longest ranges would be correct.
  19. I would think this is a problem with you rig. No one else is reporting such things. And its not like you noticed it at first or with a update. Its just not sounding like a game problem, but I not saying it isn't possible either.
  20. I went into the Marines in 1980, I still recall how all my orig. issued gear was old, outdated, warn out and not in very good shape. Some of the jokes were it was showing the signs of use from Vietnam. But in general, you could see how the military had not been treated well as to funding at the time. I watched as it transformed with all new equipment, from personnel items to most fighting machines. Food going from c rations to the MRE's. Battle manuals being rewritten. it was a time of many changes. I remember Reagan was made President and he made major pushes to increase military spending in many areas that was lacking at the time. Just remember being glad for the change. It was a good thing in that it really paid off in the early 1990's. But since then, I am not so sure we are not once again on a slide to stop funding on many important projects and are once again finding a military that is starting to be filled with equipment that is pushing long years of service and they are not getting the latest tech as needed to stay prepared as we should be.
  21. Its nice to get good feed back after putting forth the effort to create the Scenario. I personally also wished they would focus on making more small scenarios, but to each his own. I made a small battle and a medium size battle for each of these last two releases. And by far I have received way more feed back as to people enjoying the small battles. As for winning, Luck never hurts. And since during testing and design I lost more than once to the thing and that's with the knowledge of knowing what's going on. So I know its a hard one to crack. The plane can be a big part of that, its like flipping a coin. It can be a big help, or do nothing of value, or even hurt you.
  22. Thanks Well, if you won that on your first go, Excellent job (I figure most will not) The panthers will fit on the bridge, the King Tiger will not, No matter what it has to take the Gulley. Another little surprise to trick players. Falaise - nice trick to solve the bridge issue. I actually pointed out the issue in beta testing on this scenario to see if they could get it fixed. It just seems to be a programming thing that they just cannot seem to resolve. I had my King Tiger get stuck on the bridge. I have learned to always save my game before such moves. I went back a turn, played the turn again and had no problems with the bridge. Its real weird in how its unpredictable as to when bridges screw up. no consistent patterns
  23. Rewriting history by Humans going back in time is a waste of thought. It should be focused on writing history and trying to impact our future. I see way too many people sitting back and thinking we cannot impact the future. Right now there is all sorts or major issues as to where humanity is heading and far to little is being done by the majority of us to impact the course of where we are heading. Unless you think we are on a good course. I would much prefer to see future events from the present and try to prevent some of those evils over the ones we as mankind have managed to overcome in the past. The next great sinister power will make Hitler and the Second World War look like school children as to what evils mankind can do to one another.
  24. BFCElvis : have you noted my message to you as to the game access problem with the key code
