  2. Stiky, the package looks like a big ACME box. Delivered by a proper 10t truck and if you're living in an apartment (especially one without an elevator) you're in for some big trouble. They might have to breach a wall to get the package into your house then. But once you're sitting on your toilet, peeping through the big breach, reading the big fat manual you just know it wasn't all for nothing!
  3. Well react would be a bit too big I guess. At least they do pop smoke, but I haven't seen them move yet. I am happy so far, none the less.
  4. Guys the 55% hang issue has nothing to do with v1.02. You probably sent the file as-is to the other side. Somehow it often gets corrupted that way and indeed hangs at 55%, I had this issue with Sivodsi's turns as well. Be sure to zip or rar the turn before sending. It will stay intact then. Good luck!

I too visited Gamespot quite often to find out about games I was interested in, but especially the last few years I find that their bias is more towards main-stream gaming and more often you see a reviewer go after his own feelings about a game based on experience with other games or just the persons experience more than actually summing up the good and the bad of a game. It might also have to do with the fact that most of the reviewers are American and, well, they review for the American market. I do find, however, that Gamespot disagrees with my opinions about games more and more and maybe that has got to do with a different 'gaming culture'? Might be an age thing as well.
  6. Yes I am impressed as well! Vehicles now pop smoke on their own when attacked and infantry tries to run for cover more sensibly now. They don't always succeed, but at least they don't just stand there anymore. Performance is smoother as well. Overall, pretty impressed for a patch that only took 2 weeks! Thumbs up!
  7. See? Everything always has some sort of balance. We had to wait for the initial release while many who ordered with Paradox received the game. Now its their turn to wait!
  8. I don't think we have any idea whatsoever about how many calculations CMSF makes once 'the **** hits the fan' in a given scenario. It is therefore useless to speculate about. If the devs say it isn't possible by any realistic standards we have no reason to believe otherwise.
  9. Yes add me to the voting YES crowd as well. A dedicated place for mission editors to discuss with a sticky thread with a listing of available scenarios would be very nice to have.!
  10. You will get wacky results if you fast forward the number crunching. Also a lot of PC's will not be able to cope with heavy number crunching in turbo mode, so no, it won't be likely that you'll see this in CMx2.
  11. Lets setup this thread to track when the first BFC ordered hardcopies arrive. I am waiting eagerly for the big fat manual!
  12. Ah, yes, but Track, you should have been wiser and gone the BFC road. A big fat 200 page manual on hardcopy comes with the game in that version. Definately some good toilet readin'!
  13. I am sure extensive testing has been done... The one thing thats bugging me though, is while playing in WEGO and your troops come into contact with the OPFOR they just finish their order no matter what, then just stand there returning fire, usually getting slaughtered for the ongoing remainder of the minute, because they do not have an accomodating AI to let them reverse/run for cover. In RT you can order them back yourself, but surely in WEGO this must have been an issue being noticed early by extensive testing? We, as players, already have problems with it the very first days we have the game. I must admit that its kind of strange that nobody noticed playing WEGO in beta. This issue can be mean downright defeat in a scenario.

  15. Maybe I should re-phrase to make my question more clear: Does friendly-spotting in Elite difficulty depend on actual outfitting of the unit? In other words (yet again ): are things like GPS or Radios modelled in-game so that a unit with all high tech stuff on board would still 'see' a friendly unit eventhough its not in its direct LOS?
  16. Back on topic then: I like the relative spotting in CMSF very much. It adds a great bunch of realism to the game, however I do find the Elite difficulty to be a bit odd as far as friendly units go. Let me explain (and maybe I miss something here, if I do, please enlighten me ): Its rather difficult to explain, but I'll try... The main difference between Veteran and Elite is that friendly units are also only displayed if they are in LOS, correct? From a unit to unit point of view that is correctly modelled and quite logical to me, but we are playing the commander here and not the unit itself. Playing the commander in a game though, is bound to have some compromises to accomodate gameplay. In this light I think its quite odd that if you click Unit A to give its orders, Unit B who is standing outside of Unit A's direct LOS, disappears from the map. Not only will that confuse my situational awareness in larger battles, I'd say friendly units would be in radio contact with eachother, have GPS locators, etc etc, so eventhough Unit B would not be in Unit A's direct LOS, Unit A would still be very much aware of Unit B making it rather unrealistic to let Unit B disappear from the map. Thats how I look at relative spotting. Overall VERY good addition to the game, despite the rather odd way for friendly spotting in Elite, but again, I might be missing something here.

  18. That makes me wonder: Do any of us guys with the directly BFC ordered CMSF already start receiving our hardcopies? I am still waiting.
  19. Yep, brought up a few times now and I definately would vote for more detail options in the Options Menu!
