  1. "Neither, your opponent was an idjiot leading with tanks. Shorter range, yeah yeah, all the common sense stuff, sure sure. One thing not mentioned is the synergy you get by combining AT weapon fire on a given turn. This is very important. A piat becomes a cannon-fodder god of war the moment you open up with him, at virtually ANY range theoretically possible, so long as you have armor or a clear AT gun shot timed to release 10-15 seconds into the turn, from a contrary direction. So, the piat opens fire, the Panther begins to turn his slow turret AWAY from your real kill shot----an AT gun or quick armor flanking move. It's that extra few initiative shots that make or break the kill. Otherwise a Piat is just fodder, unless your opponent is clueless." Just because your hopeless at using piats doesnt mean we are. They are very useful weapons especialy as they do not give away there position nearly as much as other weapons. I have knocked out stug's, panthers and tigers with piats. Against good opposition as well. I think the real situation is that you arnt very good at using them.
  2. thankyou. i was somewhat confused. in fact i got it from a table on a document from the national records offfice. it gives the maximum perforation range of apds v panther glacias at 1150m. The balleroy tests show apds could penetrate the panther glacias at 700m but 1150 is a little bit of a jump. im still confused.
  3. i have a document which in it lists a table with the heading...... maximum range for perforation? not penetration. does abybody know the difference?
  4. dorosh. 1 it was a joke. but seriously though, it is a well written book. But as far as the weatlh and quality of information army at dawn is nothing on a bridge to far not even close. But yes it was a joke. i fell over and hurt my back and half of my left hand has ben humb for several hours.
  5. no army at dawn is nothing like cornelius ryan. how dare you even contemplate such a thing?
  6. true, and how much the penetration would weaken the plate it does or doesnt penetrate.
  7. barrold. be careful, if you push steve to far they will just drop a ww2 title out of the cmx series completly. (if there is goijng to be one anyway). Infact the way it sounds like is that they were planning to do a ww2 game but they just got constantly bugged so they just changed their minds, and are doing something else in spite.
  8. how long is a piece of string lol. ive seen pictures of shermans holed by 88mm pak 43's. that put holes through both sides. i suppose a 17 pounder hit through the sides of a panther may be able to go through both sides.
  9. well according to ospreys british anti tank artillery, the uk id's consisted of 110 atg's. 78 6 pounders and 32 17 pounders. 6 pounders were usualy towed by bren carriers and the like. and the 17 pounders by morris c8 and quay ant tractors. 10. also Britain had specific, artillery and anti tank artillery companies, both about 16 guns each. but i dont know how this broke down the the battalion level.
  11. plus my osprey book, churchill infantry tank book claims 6 pounders had he availble from italy in a large amount.
  12. www.bbc.co.uk/dna/ww2/A2719983 its a british account in normandy, but the 6 pounder fires he.
  13. tero im looking now, just to help you. The 6 pounder did fire he. it was available from tunisia. And the 75mm did not superseed the 6 pounder completely. cromwells and chirchills were availble in the 6 pounder versions up until the end of the war.
  14. Original posted by stalins organ. "Re HESH: the round cannot have been HESH according to Hogg's "British and American Artillery of WW2". HESH was developed after the war,"
  15. err bluebottle? it has already been stated hesh was not developed until after ww2. so it didnt fire hesh.
  16. or moved your puma's with the platoon. that way theyd put down suppressing fire on the enemy troops when they popped up.
  17. sorry ive forgotten. feel free to call me a nub but what is relative spotting again? (arty can only target units slash plasces in los of friendly units)
  18. you can say what you please about anything. but so can i lol. i wasnt trying to offend you. its just my opinion that most ww1 generals regardless of nation were useless. for a number of reasons but thata another thread. im more of a rugby man myself.
